The Honey Slide - closer look
Here is a bit more of a look so people can see how this works. I still need to sort the sticky rod problem out before I’d be happy with it. I have to wait for another one to fill up before I can give it another whirl.
My hope is that many people will join in, in making their own auto-matic honey extraction systems.
Leave a constructive comment below as I love to read people’s thoughts.
Maybe your working on your own honey extraction system.

The Honey Slide
มุมมอง 2.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
He is a little something I invented to showcase what I have been working on. Initially I put a provisional patent on this but later I decided to put the idea out there. My hope is that the stingless bee community as a whole throws up ideas so we can all work on automatic systems for harvesting honey for our stingless bees. If you haven’t visited Australiannativebee.com come have a look.
Solitary bee hotels 🐝

Here is a quick look at some of the things to know about solitary bee hotels. Let’s all think about land clearing and how it may affect our smaller insects. If we trade money for the now we will effectively ruin the tomorrow. Take part in actively fighting to protect our environment. You can do this buy signing petitions, voting people out who are short sighted and teaching children about natur...

Neon cuckoo bee - Thyreus nitidulus

This bee likes to enter another bees nest and lay it’s young. It’s young then consume all the host bees provisions and leaves nothing for the host. In Australia we have many hundreds of solitary species but the neon cuckoo bees always attract my attention because of their amazing colour and peculiar flight patterns. It is important for everyone to be aware of our solitary bees and the import ro...

Hive workers have orange pointed abdomens and their thorax has...

Hi Nick I am trying to find someone who can assist me with getting a hive of native stingless bees for my flower farm located on the NSW South Coast. Can you advise if there is anyone that you are aware of that would have a hive split available later this year? I watched your episode here about Canberra and that you didn’t usually send bees down this way and am unsure whether this many years later whether you do this now. Many Thanks Theresa

Hi Nick, how are you going? Are you still doing bee research and development? I live in Queensland and have carbonaria hives. I’ve noticed a decline in local tree hives. Large trees that once had hives now are empty. Have you heard of this and what would cause this? Only cause I have concerns about something happening to my hives.

4:27 prevention of soldier fly is the same as mimic fly - but what is the prevention for mimic fly? I watched the mimic fly part a number of times and it does clearly state its a secondary issue but I still don't detect any specific prevention? I've resorted to patrolling my hives and administering a highly directional narrow tube spray onto the mimic flies (have killed about 6 over the past week) but its very time consuming and I won't be able to continue this when back at work, and am trying to get my hives back to maximum health but the phorids keep hanging around. I've been advised not to use a phorid fly trap as it was explained this might just keep brining more phorids, but I'm starting to run out of ideas (and am trying to divide my time between my 3 year old and saving our 2 hives) =(

Hi Nick I believe I have found a species of stingless bees here in Chinchilla QLD. There half the size of our Tetragonola Carbonaria bees and move much more erratically. They also are much thinner in the body similar to an ant. But I have a heap of them today collecting pollen off a lavender bush. There about 2-2.5mm long. I’ve taken a video and a photo.

oh wow, I was trying to figure out what happened with my 2 hives, my #2 hive had a swarm about 1.0-1.5 metres diameter in front of it but it didn't seem to be a fighting swarm, and my #1 hive a week later was super quiet and infested with Phorid fly =( it would now seem the #2 hive had a defensive swarm and maybe what happened it my #1 hive swarmed out and left =(
