  • Afrofuturism is an idea that has driven Tim Fielder's remarkable career as a cartoonist and creative community leader. It has also led him to more than a few insights into the way ideas are converted into action, or manifested. His talk is practical, inspiring, and hilarious, particularly for anyone devoted to full-time creative output.
Tim Fielder is an Illustrator, concept designer, cartoonist, and animator born and raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He has a lifelong love of Visual Afrofutuism, Pulp entertainment, and action films. He has worked over the years in the storyboarding, film visual development, gaming, comics, and animation industries for clients as varied as Marvel Comics, The Village Voice, Tri-Star Pictures, to Ubisoft Entertainment. He also works as an educator for institutions such as New York University and the New York Film Academy. Fielder is the author and illustrator of Matty’s Rocket, a graphic novel which follows the adventures of Matty Watty, a strong female character named after his great-grandmother, from the Jim Crow-era Mississippi Delta to adventures deep into the galaxy. Fielder attended Jackson State for two years before transferring to the New York School of Arts. He has worked as cartoonist for Village Voice, Eclipse Comics and Marvel. He lives with his wife and children in Harlem.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

The problem with Black Man's Burden by Mack Reynolds is that it was not written by John M. Faucette. Faucette wrote Crown of Infinity and Age of Ruin. I read all three books back in the day but I did not know Faucette was Black at the time and I bet if he had written Black Man's Burden, it would not have gotten published. But I do not see any mention of either of these authors or any of these books in talk about Afrofuturism. In fact it seems to be more fantasy than SF.
In the real world science and technology are making if not taking over the future.
