Lucha Underground was, for me, one of my favorite times to be a wrestling fan. I grew up in the Rock and Wrestling era so I have fond memories of that, for sure. But every time I see Lucha Underground, it makes me happy and takes me back to what was truly a special time in wrestling.
Lucha underground was sports entertainment taken to a whole new fantastic level, true unpredictability at its finest too. There was not one wasted segment of meaningless gibberish, verbal or physical.

I remember the first season I caught right before the finale and it was a marathon showing the entire first season and I loved it, that first season was incredible. I can't remember if it was the first or second season but in that trios title match when angelico did that dive from the roof of the office to the ring that was incredible. Those first two seasons were so strange and entertaining I really miss it. They started to lose me in the third season. But those first two were just so entertaining, especially considering the only other wrestling on TV was wwe right after punk and Danielson were done and I couldn't bring myself to watch it at all
I remember watching at the time and thinking how great it was because nothing was ever off the table. Such a lovely little piece of wrestling magic. Also Angelico jumping off the top was beautiful, Jeff Hardy would be proud.
One thing to keep in mind about Penta's Arm Breaker during his Breaker of Bones gimmick in Lucha Underground was that it wasn't just a match spot. If Penta hit his Arm Breaker, LU played it straight that their arm was actually broken. It was a move that lead to people being out for months to heal the damage,
Lucha Underground was an interesting alternative to WWE and TNA at the time it took concepts from each and put their own spin on it and they worked really well
Penta Vs The Black Lotus triad is a top 5 episode of the entire serie and IMO is the greatest intergrender match of all time , but if you want an even more insane match to watch if you delve further into LU ..HELL OF WAR is THEE match you need to watch.
L.U is my favorite company..it's a shame it's not around anymore...the production and storylines are unmatched by FAR ! The talent 2qs unmatched...and the visuals where unmatched.,...coolest shit ever I'm a big lucha brother fan ,hybrid 2 fan..even though they where not called that then but evens and Angelico are great.mutunza sorry is great and I can't think of his name but the other big deal was a mask his name is escaping me right now absolutely amazing story lines I can name a bunch of other guys too they really need to bring this back
I think what made L.U so fun was that it was silly and didn't pretend to be serious, WWE and AEW have goofy moments then go on to try to be a serious sports based show while Underground was batshit 24/7 like something out of a Comic Book. And ROH was usually the opposite especially with the Pure division, rarely silly and focuses heavily on being sports based.
Fun Fact about the 2nd Match. Drago was being controlled by the Snake Tribe to do their dirty work. The match had a rule if the worldwide underground the Snake tribe would grant them a wish. When they win, Johnny Mundo wished the snake tribe to free Drago from their control and give Atrostar his friend back. That was the beginning of Johnny Mundo face turn in Lucha Underground.
Lu really set the standard for lucha libre for me. Although i have seen some beautiful matches in my time featuring wrestlers who were not in lucha underground like jack cartwheel, arez, dragon lee and misterioso, Lu was still amazing.
Penta's gauntlet match with the 3 wrestlers from Stardom was actually pretty good. Crazy also that Io Shirai did that huge jumping spot at the end for like a one off appearance she probably got paid maybe a couple hundred bucks for lol
You're so right that was the best intergender match I've veer seen, I'd love to see the trio in AEW, they've been wasted everywhere else but Japan of course.
Maybe the nunchaku match with Jack Evans and pj black Vs drago and aerostar or the hell of war between killshot (swerve Strickland) Vs Dante fox, were mad too lucha underground was great if insane.

I'm sorry, I love Brian Cage but that match against Taya is just sooo bizarre, and he wasn't even as muscular as he is now. its really hard for me to suspend disbelief whenever current day Brian Cage goes up against smaller wrestlers. I remember reading an interview recently when Brian Kendrick said that for Brian Cage to be as muscular as he is, when he goes up against smaller/female wrestlers, its hard to really feel into the match.
I've watched about the first 3 seasons of Lucha Underground and it was other worldy. It was a great alternative to WWE whenever I wasn't happy with what they put up there I'm glad I witnessed the savagery of pentagon dark here, cuz it doesn't seem they're gunna let him go all out in AEW, which is fine. Big roster. Alot are main event caliber
Lucha underground is probably the best show of wrestling sadly there was so many problems with the contracts and the network but there was so many good matches like the grave consequences match the first one the ladder match even the match between penta and vampiro and plus there was so many wrestlers that I never heard of until lucha came on
My first exposure to Lucha Underground was randomly attending a season 4 taping where this match between world wide underground and the reptile tribe took place. Crowd was absolutely insane and I was immediately hooked!
At the time, Lucha Underground wasn't just my favourite wrestling show. It was my favourite show. period. When I first saw pro wrestling as a kid it reminded me of a comic book story come to life, and Lucha Underground was the first place (all credit to CHIKARA, but they never had the resources to pull it off) where they were able to take that idea and fully run with it. It had wild stories, epic vignettes and amazing characters, but never lost track of the idea that the majority of the storytelling happened in the ring with some of the most incredible action and storytelling I've ever seen. It was like a show made especially for me, and sadly, I don't think we'll ever see its like again.
For anyone who misses Lucha Underground, if you haven't already check out MLW on TH-cam. They took a lot of the ideas and some characters and brought them into their organization.
Honestly LU isn’t around anymore because of how strong they book women. They’ve had skinny small women kick out of double finishers. Makes no sense. Females that weigh about 110 lbs knocking down men like Brian Cage. Just makes it hard to watch. It looks too choreographed and that’s the worst thing for any wrestling
i like a good david vs goliath match but there's never a way to convincingly make the small guy win cleanly nowadays for some reason. As for intergender matches its ok if the female wrestler is able to at least be able to slam cruiserweights. why tf are they booking a intergender match with a female wrestler against a super heavy weight in Brian Cage to begin with its like wanted Taya to be squashed. How would they have made Brian Cage lose without shenanigans.

2016 in particular was a wonderful year for wrestling. Raw, Smackdown, NXT, NJPW, and Lucha Underground were all top tier shows
