Your video saved me! I have been trying to smog my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse for over a year, bcs the EGR was not ready! I was at my wits end when I found your videos! Thank u so much! I couldn't even perform the drive cycles perfectly...I just got the miles in and the decelerations in the way you said whenever I could. It was so hard bcs I live in the San Fernando valley, Ca. Your the best! Took me literally 2xs driving after my nightshift to get it done!💜🙏
Bought a 2012 Porsche Panamera that I couldn’t get to pass the smog test, the last code was VVT/EGR code, smog guy said it just had to be driven, went from CA to AZ & back, still didn’t clear, took it to the dealer, they said it just needs to be driven 🤦🏻♂️ I found your video did this yesterday and it passed WOOHOO! Thanks for the great information. FYI, I did this 3 x’s just to be sure as my code reader doesn’t work on this car but, I did it on a steep uphill incline and was easy to hit 65 and let the car drop to almost a dead stop. 👍🏼
Carl, thank you buddy for taking the time to post about your success on the porsche. I made these videos to help avoid this insane and little know knowledge about the subject other than to keep “driving”. Lol 😂 this information should be made public by the emissions station but there is way too much money to made by confused consumers so they want to keep us dumb and numb.
You are the MAN!! Thank you! I’ve had to replace the map sensor due to a broken wire but still couldn’t get my EGR to reset. Need a NYS inspection. Doing this process this morning cleared the egr light on my monitor. I’m ready to get inspection. Thank you!
@atikmustapha1719 if you have no other issues until that inspection then no. Make sure you battery is good and also connect a memory saver when replacing the battery.
The problem is i still have a pending code p0449 on hyundai sonata 2009 i had problem with fuelling but i changed the canister and also the cylanoid valve but the code is still coming up
You are the best absolutely work. I knew some cars you had to slow down to close to zero without hitting the brakes. I did not know that was for the EGR monitor.
1999 Chevy Tahoe Limited 5.7L Vortec. Changed the OEM fuel injector spider with the new system. All my misfiring codes and the monitor is up and ready. Put some CATACLEAN. I’ve driven about 69 miles thus far and plan to put about another 200 and perform the drive cycle since my EGR/catalyst monitor/EVAPORATE and secondary air systems have not completed yet. Your guidance and INFO always welcome and appreciated!
Don't worry about the evap, focus on a long warm up for secondary air section and high speed drives for the catalyst. Since it's a pre 2000 check with you state as some states allow multiple monitors not to set on pre 2000 vehicles.
Bro you rock... I’ve been dealing with getting my Si to pass emissions inspection, I got a catless downpipe, got it tuned with Hondata to prevent any CEL, my 02S and Cat wasn’t ready, so I got a defouler installed, tweaked with Hondata a bit, drove on the highway 55-60mph steady, now cat and 02s is ready but EGR/Evap isn’t. With your guidance, EGR is finally ready and I can go pass emissions
@nataliedavid688 presuming you have no pending codes and your battery is good ( is the original battery?) th-cam.com/video/cV6NewPWo2E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hclOBsCg1bUsMVYY I would go above 65 and slowdown to under 20 mph without touching the brake pedal. Your egr should not have an issue or blockage as it’s only 5 years old. It helps to stick it in the 4th gear and rev up to over 65 mph and keep it that same gear as it will slow you down and the vehicle will notice the sudden decrease in speed and activate to test the monitor. Keep me posted. Sorry I’m responding as I’m grocery shopping 🛍️, excuse any typos
Okay, I've been driving for over 1200 miles trying to ready my EGR & EVAP systems for NYC emissions inspection. After viewing this video I was a little skeptical but since I've run out of options I figured I'll give it a try. So, after driving my wife and daughter to work and school I jumped on the highway to drive up to 65 mph and then reduce speed until stop on a nearby exit. EGR remained NOT Ready. So I tried it two more times without success. Then it hit me, I needed to pull over turn off the car and then follow the instruction without pressing the brakes from beginning till the end of the drive cycle to ready the EGR. BINGO! It worked on the first try! So, moral of the story "do not drive the wife and kids first" no, just start car, once the car is on drive mode do not press the brakes, drive up to 65 mph and reduce speed safely without pressing the brakes, then you are done.
Leonardo, after 1200 miles I'm glad to hear you got the EGR ready. Congrats and I don't think you need to worry about the evap as it's exempt in most cases. Thanks for sharing.
@@Leo.SKDXL05 just saw this but i will give this a try, I’ve just been trying to coast but i guess i missed the part where i have to turn the car on and drive straight to 65 then coast most likely will have to do it in no traffic thank you !!
I have air temperature sensor circuit on OBDII. The price on the car repair is more than I can afford right now. To clear the code it won’t work if that is on?
Sorry to hear this isn’t helping with duramax, here is the gm drive cycle th-cam.com/video/Yp34ksJY-fQ/w-d-xo.html if th gm video doesn’t help you need to check the eye valve as it’s 20 years old now and may need to be cleaned or serviced. Best of luck and let me know what happens
So I have egr/vvt not complete on my e check. I have had motor work and they deleted the vvt and I have a cam and ported and milled heads. What can i do to pass? Thank you for any help you can give me🙏
Ahhh, I wish I had better news but I think I will give the bad news first. I think these monitors will not run and will not get completed so you may not be able to pass an emissions test that check for readiness. With that being said I would try to get a real address in an exempt country ( I don’t know where you live) as that will be the only means of getting your reg tags. The other option is to get a dirty smog or under the table illegal smog which is whole other subject for another conversation. Keep me posted and I hope I am wrong
@@RANDOMFIX thank you! I’ve done it seven times and took it to mechanic to make sure everything was in working order still no success over 525 miles trying to rest egr
So I have 750 miles trying to reset the egr the mechanics cleared all codes when replacing the mass flow sensor and doubled checked my car two weeks ago- the smog guy said may need a reflashing- it’s frustrating and now gas is 3.99/gal it’s no fun!!! I’m at a loss
My 1997 Sentra's EGR monitor never reset doing this test. In CA cars prior to 2000 you can have 1 monitor X meaning fail to be ready I use a new $50 Autel scanner. It showed ! In red meaning not ready. Evap and EGR red x's. Fail. I added fuel up to 3/4 a couple of times. Retested cold starts too. and scanner showed a green checkmark meaning ready. All of thus happened as my battery had died in a spare family car. I returned for my 3rd retest $8.65 cost, showed them a photo if my scanner reader and they said it would pass. It did. I had no error codes ever. Just a red x showing monitors which were not ready. I paid $55 for Carlisle monitor 329 I paid a bit more as I was in a small mountain town that had a Napa store. If your car in Calif is 2000 gas type only the 1 error if evap us ok. That's the gas cap error. Great TH-cam education thx.
There are lots of other solutions online, but only yours worked! Although it's hard to find a place to drive up to 65 mph and then let it decelerate to 20 or so without touching the foot brake, this actually gets the EGR readiness done. Thanks again!
How long do you have to drive the vehicle at 65mph before you decelerate to 20mph and below? How long should the car be warmed up for before starting? My EGR code is reading not ready. Thank you!
For as long as you can, the high speed driving will help set your catalyst monitor. At least for 5 to 10 minutes if you have a functional catalytic converter but if you car is older you will need to drive longer at high speeds. If you need additional help send me the make and model and I will give you exact directions. It's like a game of wack the mole ( remember that game at Chucky cheese?) And focus on the unset monitors. Keep me in the loop.
@@RANDOMFIX , my catalyst monitoring was reading incomplete this morning. I took it for a 20 mile drive and now it’s good. Only one that is left is the EGR code.
Honda Accord 1999 EX EGR not ready. I’ve driven it for about 200 miles regular drive. EGR still not ready. After hitting 65 MPH how long do you hold it. One minute? And once you come to a stop. Do I turn off the car?
Go back and watch the video it’s 55 mph for ten minutes then ya coast down below 10 then back to 55 for 2 min then coast below 10mph then turn car off n back on
Here is the issue video th-cam.com/video/glw0d7y5_lQ/w-d-xo.html These egr car be a little tricky and keep in the loop, I've had subscriber confirm similar story after driving for 1000+ miles only to find that they need to visit a dealer to calibrate the readings.

Hi, I have 2019 crv with 2.4 engine. @@Idtelos yes, I got it fixed, it looks like it’s a common problem in Newer Hondas, all of them have this particular EGR monitor problem, the solution is quiet, simple all you Gotta do is get your RPM above 6000 and keep it there for at least 6 seconds once you do this EGR calibrate right away, so what I did I put my CRV in lower gear and keep it over 6000 RPM for almost 10 seconds, I know this is a little aggressive for the engine, but that’s the solution for this common problem in newer hondas, because doing my research, I found out that it’s a common problem on a Honda Odyssey’s, Honda service, Honda Civic’s, and Honda ridgelines, best regards
Thanks for the reply and glad to hear you got the issue resolve. I got a 2020 civic and that egr/vvt sensor not ready has been annoying me for 300 miles now. Not an aggressive driver, so I will give it a go and see it resolves the issue.
@@Idtelos I think it will work, as long as you don’t have OBD codes or a faulty sensor. It sound like that it will work. I heard that you need to stay above 6000 RPM for 10 secs, but 6 seconds will make it, good luck, letme know if it solved your problem
@@mauroarcomaldonado2455 Took the car out today, put it in sport mode and using the pedal shifters I kept the car at 6k rpm (2 to 3rd gear) for ~10 seconds then coast it to about 20mph for a trip of about 3.5 miles. It did the trick! Which was great! I appreaciate the feedback. On another note, Talking to an Acura tech, newer Honda/Acura vehicles do not have an EGR valve but do have VVT (variable valve timing, i.e. vtec). The elimination of the EGR valve is the result of the VVT's ability to control gases entering and exiting the combustion chamber. Anyhow, for VVT to activate (vtech kicks in!) , you need to get it to high rpm for a fix amount of time. Acura techs know about this issue and when customer bring the cars in, they take it in a quick 15min drive and get the EGE/VVT system ready by using pedal shifter, manual shifter to high rev the engine barring any other issue with engine.
FYI, EGR will not get ready for thousands of miles if you have a bad TPS (Throttle position Sensor). ECU needs this to accurately measure EGR performance at various engine speeds. It was a $20 part for my 2005. Puzzled me for a while since all EGR componets were brand new including vaccume hoses.Phewww!!!

Wow and the drive cycle data is reset or lost? So the egr is normally pretty easy to set, go over 65 mph and coast to 20 under 20 mph without touch the brake pedal. I a complete is great if you can do it. Do that 3 times and rescan. This should set pretty fast as your sprinter is brand new and the egr system is going to clean. EGR never set. I have been trying your instructions a few times. Just no luck. I went to the same smog guy 2 times, and failed with the ‘ exhaust gas sensor’ not ready. I use my scanner, it shows the same. Not sure it is a defect EGR Valve or something else.
I just changed the battery on a 1997 Nissan Quest, and the EGR monitor is not Ready. How long do you have to drive at 65 mph before decelerating to 20 mph? Also, how many times do you need to repeat this sequence? I have done this procedure twice and cannot reset it.

Question: If 5 monitors out of 8 are “ready”, and then you get an ECL (engine check light). Will erasing the engine check “DTC/ Orange light” reset “all monitors back to all 8 monitors not ready?
Yes, reset the check engine light or MIL (malfunction indicator lamp) will reset all the monitor and you have to start your drive cycle from scratch. Instead focus on the monitor that not getting ready. I will be making specific video for each make very soon.
You may need to do several drive cycles before it sets, check for pending codes, always do a cold start before starting your cycles (your engine temperature must be at or below ambient temperature) and if nothing works consider getting your oil system checked as sometimes sensors can be malfunctioning but not triggering a check engine light. Good luck

For Mercedes secondary air moniter. When car is cold start engine, at idle listen for secondary air pump which will run for about 90 seconds. @BugzKiller just make sure you battery is near perfect, I have found that if a battery does died just one time it may keep some inspection monitors from setting. Try this, it's a long video but it takes you step by step on an actual drive cycle. The guy is driving a Mazda too th-cam.com/video/7YcOdYJzIzQ/w-d-xo.html
@@RANDOMFIX you have to choose your road carefully.... like a highway with a long flat or uphill off ramp... so be sure to be above 65 well ahead of the off ramp like at least half mile. Then let off gas try to coast into the off ramp no gas. Best to do late at night or early morning before other cars come on the road.
I know sounds like a good idea but it's really bad for your motor and transmission. If you still having a hard time setting the egr monitor, let know what's the make of your vehicle and I will send an exact drive cycle video for your car.
@@RANDOMFIX With the engine temperature at 80°C: - Start and Drive vehicle (in D position) and then accelerate smoothly up to 2000 rpm, and then decelerate smoothly back down to 1100 rpm.NOTE: If using a Hand Held Scan Tool to verify test completion. @@RANDOMFIX A Chrys T&C but that has nothing to do with the tester. I have the same one and didn't know it could do readiness. You video could have included the steps where you do a scan then go to the option on the tester menu that checks the readiness items. I found it regardless and it shows the end results as you have in the video.
No one, be smart about when you can run your cycles. Consider doing it in the later part of the evening or early morning. Coast to under 20mph and then speed up again to over 55 for 3-5 minutes and then come to a complete stop using your breaks only when you have are under 20mph again.
I live on a busy street and I have noted that traffic is lightest at about 3:00 AM. I started trying this technique at that time at a place with few crossroads. Almost no traffic at that time.
I’m still trying 400 miles later and a new EGR valve still EGR not ready no check engine lights never ever. All this was because I change my goddamn batteries in my truck.
I'm having this exact same problem except I put on about 600 miles so far after changing my battery. 2013 Chrysler 200. No codes... no rough idle or symptoms of a bad EGR valve. The monitor just WILL NOT GET READY
I've been driving around for over 8 days to get my monitors ready. I did this once and I can go get my emissions test tomorrow! Muchos Gracias!

I'm in the Valley too. The 14 north and south have become my EGR test highway.
I tried this 2x but only got up to 55mpg..I'll give it 2 more tries and go 65mph and let it drop to 0mph..
You don’t need to down to o under 20 mph is good. Try decelerating as go up a big hill or incline above the 65 mph and don’t touch that brake pedal.
Thank you!
James, thanks buddy for the great feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to post your success.
After you pass the inspection do you need to do all of this on the next inspection ?
@atikmustapha1719 if you have no other issues until that inspection then no. Make sure you battery is good and also connect a memory saver when replacing the battery.
The problem is i still have a pending code p0449 on hyundai sonata 2009 i had problem with fuelling but i changed the canister and also the cylanoid valve but the code is still coming up
You are the best absolutely work. I knew some cars you had to slow down to close to zero without hitting the brakes. I did not know that was for the EGR monitor.
Thank you for the great feedback about the egr video.
“EVAP” darn autocorrect! lol
Only add cataclean once all monitors are set except catalysts as it's only a temporary and it can get expensive.
@@RANDOMFIX EGR cleared!! All is left as of today Catalyst, Secondary Air System and EVAP!
I would go above 65 and slowdown to under 20 mph without touching the brake pedal.
Thanks for sharing.
so just drive to the spot you’re going to do the 65, turn the car off then on, go to 65 mph then coast to 20mph?
@@c2a10m yes. if you can coast to 10 or even 5 it would be ideal.

Cool, thank you for sharing.
There are lots of other solutions online, but only yours worked! Although it's hard to find a place to drive up to 65 mph and then let it decelerate to 20 or so without touching the foot brake, this actually gets the EGR readiness done. Thanks again!
Jack, thank you for the great feedback.
You get this fix? Seems this issue is quite common on Hondas...Particularly those with k24 with VVT.

My code reader says all clear but the smog guys one still shows EGR and evap.
Gonna try some below 60 and some above.

The coast down from 60 mph will help, also try for 40 mps around town..here is the full bmw drive cycle th-cam.com/video/mk6Tk330Acw/w-d-xo.html

I got the same exact one you have I had it for like 15 years. But when I plug it in when the car is off it lights up but it doesn't do anything no matter what button I push it only works when I start the car. This thing stayed in my car through all the seasons I'm just wondering if something corroded inside the monitor meter. Or if one of the pins on the plug-in part is not going into the OBD2 socket correctly. @@RANDOMFIX okay I will probably get back to you once I get the new OBD2 on tuesday. Before that does both oxygen sensors weren't ready also. But I drove 10 miles today and now they are ready. Thank you for the offer as well
Question: If 5 monitors out of 8 are “ready”, and then you get an ECL (engine check light).
@@RANDOMFIX so if I fix the engine check light /DTC for example P0440 (evap small leak) , will the ECL go away?

I have a 2016 nissan sentra and the egr just won’t active any tips?
You may need to do several drive cycles before it sets, check for pending codes, always do a cold start before starting your cycles (your engine temperature must be at or below ambient temperature) and if nothing works consider getting your oil system checked as sometimes sensors can be malfunctioning but not triggering a check engine light. Good luck

I have a EGR & EVAP & SEC AIR SYSTEM THAT IS INCOMPLETE AND NONE OFVTHIS WORKED IN MY 2001 S430 benz ..I’m heated
Sorry to hear your frustration I would focus on the secondary air injection system and also the EGR system afterwards don't let that evap system bother you too much as it is not required to be ready. If need additional help with sec air let me and I can help you. As to the EGR, I have a video on my smog playlst the deals with this exact concern. Best of luck. _Randomfix
For Mercedes secondary air moniter.
When car is cold start engine, at idle listen for secondary air pump which will run for about 90 seconds. Once Secondary AP stops, run engine at 1300 RPM until engine temp gets to 83°C, then let idle. You will hear secondary air pump run for about 8 seconds. Once it has done that' the Secondary Air Moniter will be ready.
I performed this 4 times just now, with one attempt perfectly executed from 65 to 0 without touching the brake, just let it decelerate and shifted down (automatic transmission) and finally used my handbrake to a complete stop, my reader still says my EGR us incomplete. It’s a 2011 Subaru Forester. Got any other tips?
What caused the egr data to be deleted?
Awesome Work
Thank you for positive feedback. _Randomfix
How much gas is required???
The egr is not dependent on the fuel level, the evap monitor does rely on the fuel level.
I clear the codes with my OBDII monitor, and the check engine light went off, but when I go to read the codes again, they’re all still there? Weird
Sorry alex for the late reply! did you find a solution?!

What state are you in? Some stated doesn’t require all the monitors to be ready!!
Most important before you put the new egr did you clean egr passage? This ver very common to build up and not allow the air to flow. It is pain the neck to clean as you have soak the passage with throttle body cleaner to help slowly dissolve the carbon build up.
Let me know what you find when you investigate and good luck 🍀

Keep me posted and let know any specifics
@RANDOMFIX everything was erased because the car was broke down for 3 months and in that process the battery died and I had to charge it. So now the car is fixed and this emissions crap. I am able to get 2 temporary plates 30 days each from the DMV . I am going on somewhat of a long trip this coming Tuesday all different speeds and I will take that car. I have the same scanner you have as well LOL but I also bought a more expensive one but it's pretty much almost the same. But the one you got and I got I had for over 15 years. Yes I will keep you posted thanks for getting back to me quickly! Oh I also see that I did tell you about the scanner you have and the one I got sometimes the screen doesn't light up like it should. So just to be on the safe side I bought that new one
@BugzKiller just make sure you battery is near perfect, I have found that if a battery does died just one time it may keep some inspection monitors from setting. You have to load to it and confirm the testing voltage is above 12 volts after a 10 minute head load without the engine running. This affects o2 sensors monitor more than others
@@RANDOMFIX oh yeah I checked all of that doing that for years on all my cars with the battery the oxygen sensors are fine and everything else except for the cat and the EGR like I said. Thanks though

What state are you in and also what year is the car?

Daniel, did the smog tech actually test your 04 honda or just tell you it wasn't not ready? Last I checked I in California, the evap is the only monitor that is except as long as all the other monitors are set. The smog technicians and shops get dinged a point for passing a vehicle were the evap is not ready but it will pass if they actually smog it not screen it. Keep me in 5h ev loop on what happens. If you still want to get by the evap ready there is not much you can do other that have no more than 3/4 to no less than 1/4 tank of gas and park on a level surface.

Jazmine, if all other monitors are set except for egr. Go over 65 and slow down to under 20 mph without touching the brake pedal. Complete this step 1 to 4 times and verify egr monitor using a simple $20 obd2 reader, I had links in the description of the video. Let me know how it goes. _Randomfix
Can't I jack up the vehicle, put it in drive and just let the wheels spin?
I know sounds like a good idea but it's really bad for your motor and transmission. If you still having a hard time setting the egr monitor, let know what's the make of your vehicle and I will send an exact drive cycle video for your car.
got a 1998 e300d and EGR ready takes 5000 miles
5000 miles to set the erg monitor?
@@RANDOMFIX With the engine temperature at 80°C:
- Start and Drive vehicle (in D position) and then accelerate smoothly up to 2000 rpm, and then decelerate smoothly back down to 1100
rpm.NOTE: If using a Hand Held Scan Tool to verify test completion. This will be indicated by a check mark in the display field or the word PASS or COMPLETE. After this test step has been completed, turn ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds and repeat this test step again.
above is the official way to get it ready - for me it doesn't seem to work - but driving normal every day over the course of 5000 miles always works
You don't show how you got the device to get to the EGR error. Plug it in, then what?
What are you driving?
@@RANDOMFIX A Chrys T&C but that has nothing to do with the tester. I have the same one and didn't know it could do readiness. Awesome, thanks for the great feedback. _Randomfix
The fact that I can’t use my brake. Who do I sue?
No one, be smart about when you can run your cycles. Consider doing it in the later part of the evening or early morning. Coast to under 20mph and then speed up again to over 55 for 3-5 minutes and then come to a complete stop using your breaks only when you have are under 20mph again.
I always try to find some country road someplace where there's no cars.
Mark, what are you driving?
