- Austin City Limits - Mel Tillis & The Statesiders - 09/12/1985.
When we played Austin City Limits, the broadcast shows were 30 minutes long. Therefore, they requested the artist featured would perform for at least 30 minutes, preferably 45 minutes. Mel played for 110 minutes (1 hour, 50 minutes). Of course, they only used a select 30 minutes of the concert for the broadcast show. Presented here (in 3 song segments) is the FULL 110 minute performance.
Mel's band, The Statesiders, at this time consisted of:
Jerry Reid, guitar; Brian Sterling, guitar; Kip Paxton, bass; Kenny Sears, fiddle; Paul Justice, fiddle; Jim Garstang, piano; Dennis Pratt, keyboards; Phil Coontz, steel guitar and George Beasley, drums. More videos to follow!
I sure miss him on Johnny Carson show. Good solid performer. God bless his soul🙏🕯🎙🎶
Would you upload Mel Tillis and Gail Davies on Austin City Limits during Season 5 in 1980?👍
I have Mel's portion of that show, but not Gail Davies' portion. Sorry. :(
somewhere I have the set lists of a few of the shows (even the songs that got cut) do you have any of the raw performances that were unedited
hello @newsman1979 - the only raw unedited (and unmixed) shows of Austin City Limits that I have consists of only this show that we did with Mel. They only needed 30 minutes of performance for the final broadcast, but Mel did a concert at approximately an hour and a half. The broadcast section was, of course, edited and mixed, whereas the rest of the concert was never edited or mixed it all. But I do have the entire hour-and-a-half performance. I started to post it in sections, but there didn’t seem to be a great deal of interest in it. The Hee Haw shows that I have posted are far and away the most popular.
Correction: the entire performance was about one hour and fifty minutes.
