Me and my brother Randy was working next door to Ralph'sat his neice's house the day he passed, what a great man and family. So many times i wanted to play a banjo like him and now i'm teaching myself and am pretty good, Thanks Dr. Ralph, i wish i was in heaven listening to you sing with all the other true greats and angels
Thank you! Just to be able to see James Shelton play brings tears to eyes. God bless Ralph Stanley and all the Clinch Mountain Boys who have gone onto Gods Golden Shore.
I am sitting here right now in the shadow of Clinch Mountain listening to the music of Dr. Ralph Stanley. I live in Russell County, the small town of Rosedale. Dr. Stanley was the best as far as I am concerned. No one was better then Dr. Ralph. He will be singing in Gods Angel Band someday.
Just the greatest bluegrass singer and banjo player the World has ever known. He touched so many lives and saved so many souls. I had the honor of shaking his hand and I will never forget him as he represents all that is good in this World. He is finally re-united with Carter again. I will see you again someday my friend.....up in Gloryland. RIP
That is true Sean. I am probably bias as I met him several times. I was commenting with my heart at the time of that post but I am still grieving his loss.
I have been listening to this music for over 50 yrs and I am 63. Dr. Ralph is getting old but during his early years with Carter, he was a smoker of the old time music circuit, I grew up with his music in Cincinnati.
Country Living is the best... way in life.. Awesome to hear all day long.. Time is all I have.. broken but God puts my pieces back together.. again... Amen !! Great picking

I saw Ralph Stanley live in Annapolis, MD some years back. He had his son playing with him. His son's son was plucking around on a guitar at the back of the stage. I thought it was cute... Then the grandson came out and took the lead!... Three generations on one stage!
Used to see Ralph and the Clinch Mountain Boys at McCabe's Guitar Shop, in the 100 seat back room, every year in the 90's and early 00's. Ralph Jr., Very much out front, Steve Sparkman on the 5 string, just incredible. Used to sit in the front row and watch James Shelton pick that beautiful Martin guitar, 3 feet away. What a treat. Ralph would play claw hammer style on his banjo for one tune only. Then "Oh Brother where Art Though" was released, Ralph's stock went up, and Ralph never came back to McCabe's. But those shows were absolutely incredible to be so close to all that amazing talent. Those fellas could play!
So...many...CHINS upon this stage! Dr. Ralph you will forever be stuck in my head. Gloryland WILL play at my funeral sung by no other than the king of bluegrass.
Awesome! Wish I had been there. I just love this kind of music. Any musician that goes to a concert of these kind of music or sees it on some kind of video and is not impressed by the musicianship of the people who make this kind of music is simply not paying attention.

He wanted to keep making money so he continued, but more than that, he still enjoyed the crowds. He would come out at intro, take a few rests on an old log or chair and then bust out some additional tunes. anyone that can do it at that age is a real warrior and lover of music.
Look at the ears on this CNUT. And the length of the konck Sorry but he don't get points in my book. He has no REAL respect for the music neither. Just look.

SWEET THE JAMS KEEP COMING LOL
RIP James Shelton. A master cross-picker and a gentleman in all respects, he and George Shuffler were the cream of the Clinch Mountain guitarists.
Don't forget about colonel Keith Whitley one of the greatest guitarist to play!
@@libertyBuilders nor about Bill Napier, cleanest guitarist in the 50s. The man could play Monroe style mandolin better than Monroe.
I Love It THANK YOU
Awesome! Wish I had been there. I just love this kind of music. Any musician that goes to a concert of these kind of music or sees it on some kind of video and is not impressed by the musicianship of the people who make this kind of music is simply not paying attention.

THATS HOW RALPH PLAS THE BANJO
11 people are long gone this time.
I love that song.
What's with the Elvis hair and sideburns? What year was this done?
This was 2013 in Beanblossom Indiana at the Bill Monroe Museum & Campgrounds. A rather legend of a place.
Large Brother in the rhinestones is fashionable as fuck. Just sayin'
Keep your filthy language to your UGLY self!
At 2:24 - is he telling the banjo player "that's too high-pitched, pal..."?? :)
larry sparks......many ppl say that carter stanley was his daddy.....
This is Tool Good to be true!
Ralph was outstanding and unique, but some should know when it´s time to stop.
Does Ralph Stanley ever pick his banjo at these anymore, I've been wantin to go see him
nope, he wasn't getting around too well in 2013 as you could see. But he still had that haunting voice.
Ralph Stanley looks so tired and ready for a rest....not like he is really enjoying what he's doing anymore....working til the day he died basically.
He wanted to keep making money so he continued, but more than that, he still enjoyed the crowds. He would come out at intro, take a few rests on an old log or chair and then bust out some additional tunes. anyone that can do it at that age is a real warrior and lover of music.
I love the peek a boo guy at about 7 minutes, that is why they keep them doors shut.
he looked familiar. who was that?
he outlived the CMB's
ralph stanley is good
I can't believe all these nasty comments...Go tune into your Justin Beiber channel. This kid can sing and his hair and sideburns are cool...
OMG! DR RALPH SINGING OH DEATH! IF YOU CAN'T FEEL THAT YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD! WOW
shoot with a d-28 martin, i"d just like to have that blueridge hes playing.
Why was Ralph Stanley always introduced as Dr. Ralph Stanley?
That was only an honorary title given him.
This is deep. Puts my mind on how the world is so ugly & it makes us selfish and foul if we arent paying attention.

Look at the ears on this CNUT.
And the length of the konck
Sorry but he don't get points in my book.
He has no REAL respect for the music neither. Just look.
