I was nosing around a bluegrass site and came across this one. This was recorded at the Bean Blossom ) Indiana on the Thursday night (13th June 2013) before I headed up the next day for the Chicago Games. Actually, I did not get to see much of this program as I was off one the other side of the stage (beyond the bad to stage left) talking to Ricky Wassen (guitar pickin' pal of JD Crow) about my banjo. He was quite taken with it. After a bit, I met up with Brian Lappin and we waited until this show was over so we could show Rob McCoury my banjo. He picked and liked so glad Brian and I decided to stay and show. After the show, the band headed north to Canada, Brian and I back to his house, and Friday, the banjo and I headed up to the Chicago-area. What a few days that was! Danny, you'll note that Del is not with for this performance, probably home in Nashville, just relaxing. This is a bit different than when you were lucky to see them perform with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band - still good, hard-nosed bluegrass from this fine band. Chuck, I don't know how much of 'live' bluegrass performances but this is a good one - long too! Rob is the one who has expressed a strong interest in owning the banjo so now you can see/hear the quality of banjo player this good old banjo deserves. Pick and chose through it and hope you enjoy. Not only are these fellows brilliant players and singers, are fun to be with - as - I was able to do twice later on these past months. Yes, Ronnie's voice luckily is quite like his daddy's, but at this point in time for Del, a bit smoother. Well, lucky us to be able to watch and enjoy. My only wish would be that this filmer did the same for the great 'Dailey and Vincent Band' which was on just before the McCourys' Band - that too was wonderful. I'd like to hear/see the young banjo player for them and whom I'd met too while hanging about the back stageeeeeeeee area. Jason Baker, as I recall. I have a fun story about him and his response during the quick exchange of words as I told him about this banjo. 'On and On ' one of my all-time favorites! Wow! Ann old Bill Monroe song, as I recall, anyway. Good picking, Rob! RG/BG
Thanks for posting this concert. Had planned on listening to just the first few songs. Here I am , an hour or so later listening to the entire concert. Such great music, wish I could get to some live Bluegrass concerts. Thanks again.
Looks like his mamma, sounds like his daddy. I was there that night, in fact I was the the guy yelling out Del songs at them. You could tell they wished they could do those songs, but pretty much had enough of me. Eventually I shut up. You have to understand I LOVE these guys.
Been around music all my life, from the original WSM Barn Dance, the WSM Grand Ole Opry, the Ozarks Jubilee and this is one great band. They all are masters of the instruments they play and the bass player is one that doesn't just pound the strings, but makes notes. The fiddle and guitar can do so much as can the banjo and mandolin.
Thanks to Ronnie, Robbie, Jason and Allen for putting together such a wonderful (and traditional) bluegrass band. Hope the Travelin' McCourys hang around like a hair in a cheese sandwich!
Ooops! Sorry about that, folks as this should not have been sent to 'All Comments' So smooth, huh?. It was meant expressly for my brother in sunny Cal', and a fellow bagpiper-friend here who more recently has fallen for the great bluegrass music. I just thought both would enjoy this wonderful recording by the gent. In this case, hope you found interesting. Sorry. B
Ronnie on that mandolin and Jason Carter on the fiddle is wonderful. Hard to beat. I can hear a little Scotty Stoneman in that fiddlin'...love it
I could listen to the Travelin' McCoury's all day, any day. I would probably by a ticket just to watch them tune their instruments.
