In the meanwhile, They play games for the international teams. This was the world cup in December 2022.
Theres a world cup every 4 years. And 2 years later, there is an other tournament, like European Cup, African Cup, Copa America etc. Then 2 years later World Cup again. And so on, and so on.

I know americans like to compare him to lebron to describe his reputation as a player . But I can assure you he is way way more than that. For example I live in a country which doesn't even has a good football team but almost everyone in my country supports messi . Everyone even my grandmother knew Messi's name and how good he was. The world knows him very well and he is not comparable to any other athlete. He is just him . Like when you say someone to think of a supercar usually around the world they think of a Ferrari. Just like that when you say people to think of a footballer everyone thinks of messi first. Thats how I would describe him.

Many people have their own opinion on who is the best player ever. If you look at a period over 70 years, how many players played this beautiful game, it's ALOT. There are many records on many different players names but thats if you purely look at statistics. Also you cant compare different type of players with different type of abilities. So it's also a taste you have. What kinda players a person likes to watch. Names you will hear the most as GOAT are Messi, Ronaldo CR7, Ronaldo R9(This is another Ronaldo who was an amazing striker), Maradonna, Pele, Cruijff, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta, Platini, Beckenbauer, Di Stefano, Modric. This is a mix of players over 70 years. But from 20 years ago till now, Messi and Ronaldo CR7 did amazing things and broke many records. Personally, I love Messi's playstyle more and I would consider him the GOAT, together with my all time favorite, Johan Cruijff.

Lionel Messi was born in Argentina... he idolized another G.O.A.T from Argentina before him - Diego Maradona, who was a superstar in the 80's. Someone probably explained this, but that first match they lost to Saudi Arabia was in the same tournament. In the group stage, where each team faces each other once, and at the end the two teams with the most points move on to the knockout portion of the tournament. (At that point, if you lose, you're out). Also, the World Cup is only once every 4 years. That's why Messi said this is his last one. (He's 35 years old here)

In football there is club football and international football. To compare it to American sports, Messi has won every trophy possible in club football with Barcelona, more than Tom Brady, LeBron and Jordan combined. Club football is like playing for a franchise in US sports.
He also plays internationally for Argentina. The world cup is played every 4 years and is the biggest sporting competition in the world in any sport. Unfortunately for Messi he hasn't always had good teammates over the years so he never won a WC before this one in Qatar last year.
You can't trade players in international football, you are stuck with the best players from your country so some of the best players have never won a world cup. Ronaldo would be an example of this.

Group a group b group c etc there is a table in each group has a list of all the teams in that group and they were points each win was 3 points a tie is 1 point and a loss was 0 argentina lost to saudi arabia but then they got out of the group stage by beating poland and mexico which made them 6 points which was enough to qualify to the knockout stages aka the quarter final semi final etc the team with the least points gets kicked out the world cup hope this helped

Greatest World Cup Ever !! And I've been to many World Cups starting from when we had the World Cup in the 70's. I've also been to the Mexico World Cup , USA World Cup and very lucky to be at the Qatar World Cup. No matter what people say , in my opinion Messi is better than Maradona . Not only better than Maradona , but when Maradona was the coach for the Argentine World Cup , he destroyed it for us & was a disaster. Maradona was a mess!!! 🙄

It’s like you might play for LA FC and if you play good enough you might get called up to play for the US men’s national team in international tournaments but you’ll still play for LA FC as well
