Fun fact: Nic Cage is currently dealing with tax problems. That should answer any questions about why he agreed to do this movie.

My father who is a Christian mind you watched this movie on pay-per-view without having any idea that it was a rapture movie... and even HE turned it off 10 minutes in. He later told me, and I quote... "it sucked."

will you share this review with your father? You 2 can have some fun watching Sean make fun of it. Also I realized 2 things:
      1. Sean's comment on the jump scares, they're resorting now to what most modern horror films now do for a cheap scare?
      2. How nothing happens most of the time. So basically it's doing what the Twilight movies do a lot?

My buddy loves bad movies, like REALLY loves watching bad movies. He paid to see Cats in theaters bcuz he "had to know" and he still found it okay. And yet, I remember him paying to see Left Behind in theaters and when we met up afterwards, he told me he had actually walked out with half the audience. The other half, he said, were roaring with laughter. Apparently, the Rapture flash scene was given the same vocal energy as a sports commentator during a soccer game when a player scores a goal. 🤣

It just occurred to me that the rapture could work pretty well as a premise for a black comedy. There's so many scenarios you could create with the random disappearances, social and religious commentary, or just plain highlighting the absurdity of the situation. Of course, that would need a much more creative ,well, creator with no religious agenda.

But on a more serious note: For the most part I do agree with you. This movie was awful, if only because it doesn't have much of a plot. This is really sad to me seeing as there are nine books and this basically covers the first eighth of the first book. I would like to point out with the old lady thing that the idea behind only the children leaving is they've never gotten the chance to accept God. She probably lived for decades fully aware of the choices of God. Just thought I'd mention that.

Apparently LaHaye hated this adaptation as well. I saw a quote from him where he stated' “It’s probably the worst script I’ve ever read... And I’ve read scores of them.” So, yeah, there is that also...
And in terms of the "If God is good why do bad things happen" argument, I think it's a case of the writers of Christians films (A) never really having to wrestle with that question themselves and sort it out, and (B) lacking the skill to place themselves on both sides of the issue and write competent, compelling arguments, which is a MUST for a good portrayal of a debate in a film or play.

God is dissatisfied with his works.

      God dwells not in temples

      Tim 6:16
      God dwells in darkness
      1 Kings 8:12/ Ps 18:11/ Ps 97:2
      4. God is seen and heard

      Ex 24:9-11
God is invisible and cannot be heard
      John 1:18/ John 5:37/ Ex 33:20/ 1 Tim 6:16
      5. God is tired and rests

2wingo I wouldn't say that the bile makes clear that God is good. I would say that it *claims* that God is good. But, in writing, there tends to be this show-don't-tell rule.

+TheKeyser94 About the iron chariots, the Israelites once lost a battle because one soldier kept some loot for himself, and Eli's sons lost the ark of the covenant to the philistines because they were giving the tabernacle a bad name. In one battle victory or defeat depended on whether Moses could keep his arms in the air. Whether someone will win or lose depends entirely on what God decides and you will win only on his conditions. Besides they beat the iron chariots a short time later.

I saw this movie in theaters when it came out. I was christian back then and my mom made us go watch it, and I shit you not, the people up in the projector room literally shut the movie off halfway through, and had us all leave because of how bad it was, and as we were all going out, they gave everyone their money back. Let me just say, they did us a fucking favor.
I’m 22, and I was a young teen then, and this movie kind of took my film virginity in a way; it, along with Howard the Duck, was the first time I realized that movies could suck.

    2) The rapture, as defined in this movie actually happened but it was just a couple of people and no one noticed.

The problem with this movie is the 'naner' factor. The movie makes a clear distinction between believer and non-believer and kinda makes the believers act like their better b/c we're more faithful. It then whisks the believers up to heaven and focuses on the people who weren't good enough to get into heaven. "Naner, naner, naner!"

You know, it's funny--half a millenia ago, religion and religious people were the motivation for, and patrons and creators of, the finest art in the Western world. It was so good that the best pieces are still revered today as priceless cultural treasures made by peerless masters whose names we still remember, like Michelangelo. But somewhere in the intervening centuries, religious people completely and utterly lost their artistic tastes, and now the stupidest, hackiest, shittiest propaganda is the only type of art that religion--at least christianity--produces; and it's definitely the variety of art that christians--at least the born again variety--prefer. There's a subtextual message there, I think.

Since it's more likely Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas movie will be done near the end of the year-(Probably November since I'm hoping the smeghead will finally do How the Grinch Stole Christmas-(The Jim Carrey piss bomb) for the 2015 Cinematic Excrement Christmas episode in December since that abomination to the beloved Dr.Seuss tale needs to be done sooner than later) and since this movie along with the 2 other movies-(The Legend of Hercules and Transformers 4: Age of Extinction I'm looking at you) that received the worst picture nominees at the 35th Golden Raspberry Awards and have already been tackled and dealt with. The only other movie that received the Worst Picture nominee at the 35th Golden Raspberry Awards that would be the one that's gonna be the next Cinematic Excrement episode next month at the end of March as usual that has appeared in the Vlog version on this show last summer-(Much like Transformers 4) and hasn't appeared on the main show portion yet and my guess is gonna be Transformers 5: The Fall of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-(Of course it's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I just call the movie that because it perfectly describes on how horrible this movie was)
