I find it interesting when certain actors, e.g Monique, are considered “difficult to work with”for defending themselves against maltreatment, but people like O Russell and Weinstein weren’t considered “too difficult” to keep working while terrorizing cast and crew.
I think it's bc the directors and producers have way more power than just an actor. So it becomes easier to campaign against a single actor than someone in charge of an entire production.
Notice how all of these stories involve either the most important cast or crew, mostly because any of those people leaving the job majorly effects production. Now imagine how much worse he was to the rest of the crew, and how expendable he viewed all of them.
I know someone who once interviewed for an assistant job with him. Russell asked what my friend’s favorite movies were and stormed out of the room when enough of them weren’t his own movies (among answers to other subjective questions that were “incorrect”). Apparently the other assistants in the room sighed and told my friend Russell was expecting to hear more glowing praise for his own movies.

If I can give a critique, you should really keep the videos to clips that directly deal with the subject. The information is great but it feels a little disjointed when there are clips from productions that have nothing to do with Russell.

This is a decent video and I'm glad Russell's behaviour is being talked about, but I have some feedback. Overdoing the visual puns is a fairly common problem on youtube, but it's often distracting and, given the topic of this particular video, often comes across as callous and, honestly, a bit crass.
I totally agree with that since it overshadows the message the creator is communicating. I'm glad they're considering it while making their next video.

I think the fact that these ALIST actors were willing to put up with this shows that this type of behavior is probably more common than is known and actors are often treated this way. Russell Crowe has stated this several times that "you're treated like shit, but you get paid well" . And these are people who love what they do and are afraid of losing it. When Christian Bale of ALL PEOPLE has to get in your face and tell you to chill, you really should know you've gone too far. Silver Linings is a mediocre script rescued by a stellar cast. Jennifer & Brad (especially Jennifer) gave the best of their craft and they shone through.

Amsterdam was so baffling to watch because it was so incredibly boring and weird, but somehow every other scene had a new A-list celebrity giving the worst performance of their career. Like the director somehow managed to pull shit for gold.
It is extremely important to note that TONS of people went to see his movies JUST because of Jennifer Lawrence. She was just out of the hunger games craze and us superfans were building whole ass blogs just to figure out the best ways to support her career. We bought those tickets for HER and her only, often being too young to even have interest in the movies themselves. Silver linings playbook was an example: I saw it at the cinema with my best friend and we were.. 13? 14? Did not like it, Jennifer was great but way too young for the part of the "disgraced widow", the male gaze was suffocating, the plot was mediocre and we left just being happy about having supported our favorite actress. I think to work in the business you immediately learn that this is what you have to put up with and you just deal with it if you want to continue working. I actually really enjoyed Amsterdam but I'm glad it didn't do well. While there is such a thing as separating art from the artist, when that art is the result of someone's suffering it diminishes the value of the work, at least to me. Love the vids man. When he observed how kind, sweet and gentle Peter Jackson was being on his LOTR sets, he realized you don't have to be tyrant to get a movie made and improved his attitude as a result. Amsterdam had a very poor ad campaign. I could see a bunch of famous actors were in it, it was a period piece, that's it. A comedy? A drama? What was it about? What was the hook? Had no interest in seeing it.

I hate I Heart Huckabees. I'm glad that he worked on it for 4 years only for it to turn out like shit. Some of his films are O.K. but I never thought of David O. Russel as a great director. Funny, I kinda liked Huckabee's, but hated Silver Linings. Incredibly pretentious movie that posits that anyone with X disability must act like a complete nutcase just because the director thinks it's entertaining shit. But then, I suppose Huckabee's is similar, just in a more philosophical way.

Two flops and abuse allegations are far from a guarantee, even post-Me Too. *Update:* Russell is currently set to direct a biopic about John Madden for Amazon Prime starring Will Ferrell, and another movie starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Keke Palmer. I suppose no film is a sure thing until it's made and released, but it would appear big studios and movie stars are still perfectly willing to work with him. If either of these two coming movies are anything more than complete failures, I don't see his career being over any time soon. And to be clear, I'm not rooting for Russell here. He sounds like a real piece of shit, but that kind of thing just doesn't stop an Oscar nominated director in this industry.

When someone told me Silver Linings Playbook won an Oscar - I laughed. It was so mediocre. It was basically Garden State but with added self-seriousness. Mopey guy goes off his meds and moves back to his parents' place. Meets quirky girl who goxes him up and they win a dance tournament. Really shallow and basic. Surface level stuff.

David O. Russell can’t even produce results from all this bad behavior. His films are pretty mid Say what you will about Hitchcock, the man could actually make great films. Appreciate the obvious passion and extreme time and care put into editing this video. That said, the monotone delivery, the strobe light speed screen changes, and the incessant/irrelevant WWE clips are grating to say the least.
I can't imagine what it must felt like for Lily Tomlin having to go to HIM and apologize. You'd think some of those high profile men on set would be able to sort him out, but I guess they didn't want to get in his line of fire. I will say though, while some actors like Amy Adams couldn't handle his style of directing, J-Law is clearly made of tougher stuff and potentially thrives in an intense work environment, like some of the other actors who still sing his praises. Hollywood is very weird people, some actors and crew will put up with just about anything.
I’m going to agree with the rest of the comments and bring up the visuals are distracting and detract from the video. The other issue is you’re interlacing actual footage from the topic you’re referencing and then all of a sudden show a different movie or show featuring the same people which seems directly misleading.
As an actor, myself, I would not care to work with a director like Russell. I won't audition for a part, if I know the director is like that. I prefer there to be little drama on the set other than what's supposed to be shot. It is completely unnecessary for a director to abuse his cast and crew, and it's remarkable they can do a good job under such conditions. A younger me would likely have just taken the abuse, but today, I wouldn't tolerate it. Life's too short.
David O. Russell has been a huge help to me. I have bouts of insomnia. I ended up with a copy of Amsterdam. Sat down to watch it and it put me right to sleep. So now anytime I can’t sleep I pop that on and get a good night’s rest.
This is so disappointing to hear! I have been bullied and yelled at many different points in my career and it brings up a lot of existing trauma for me, especially because I cared so much about doing my best at work. Respect for coworkers should be the bare minimum! It should not be socially acceptable for men in positions of power to yell and have temper tantrums! I was in a high paying job, but due to how I was treated my last role, I have not had the confidence to continue with my career. The fact that he may have commited SA and was touching people inappropriately is just so much worse. I used to be a fan of some of his movies but I no longer want to support this director!

I Heart Huckabees was an incredibly important film for me. I watched it during a period of time where I felt I had no direction and was miserable. The movie spoke to me in a profound way that helped me change my outlook on life. It really hurts to see that the person who made it was an absolute monster and I'm glad that we are calling these people out. As important as that movie was to me, it's not worth the damage he caused to others to make it.

Russel sounds like my boss. Thats no joke. My boss didn't let a cheap worker go to vacation to see his family in Poland for Christmas, instead blamed him for mold damage in his messy house so he wouldn't need to pay his work. The worker did that task while having Covid and died from lung issues on December. My boss commented it with "Well and the last thing he did was removing my mold." Oh and he's rewarded by moving to a tropical paradise soon while leaving a badly running company, underpaid workers, unpaid licences and services, a scammed investor etc. behind him because never doing anything for your workers, not paying for equipment and modern slavery (and tax fraud) makes you rich. They literally replaced my working laptop with one I can't work with so they won't have to pay 1k bucks. Man I love having to get jobs!

People kept desiring to work with Roman Polanski for decades after he was literally convicted of statutory rape and then fled the country to avoid paying for his crimes. To this day he's wanted in the US, and to this day huge stars hold him in high esteem and continue to work with him. Directing a few successful films basically gives you boss health in Hollywood.

The stuff that happens on film sets is so appalling. And actors and people in the business are like the dog in the burning room going “this is fine”. I think to work in the business you immediately learn that this is what you have to put up with and you just deal with it if you want to continue working. They have the attitude that it’s creative types with too much stress and people deal with it because you have to take care of “the talent”. But it all sounds so toxic and traumatizing. I don’t even like to hear stories of famous people anymore.

Amsterdam had a very poor ad campaign. I could see a bunch of famous actors were in it, it was a period piece, that's it. A comedy? A drama? What was it about? What was the hook? Had no interest in seeing it.

*Update:* Russell is currently set to direct a biopic about John Madden for Amazon Prime starring Will Ferrell, and another movie starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Keke Palmer. I suppose no film is a sure thing until it's made and released, but it would appear big studios and movie stars are still perfectly willing to work with him. If either of these two coming movies are anything more than complete failures, I don't see his career being over any time soon.

Please try to make a video using a director's own footage without using footage from other directors. Yes, David O Russell is an abusive filmmaker, but try not to use shots from other director's films to make your point.

dude, great script, but please the editing is awful... cut the clips from the hundred different movies you use its incredibly distracting... for memes yeah sure, but other than that it really hurt the watching experience
Appreciate the obvious passion and extreme time and care put into editing this video.
That said, the monotone delivery, the strobe light speed screen changes, and the incessant/irrelevant WWE clips are grating to say the least.
I can't imagine what it must felt like for Lily Tomlin having to go to HIM and apologize. You'd think some of those high profile men on set would be able to sort him out, but I guess they didn't want to get in his line of fire. I will say though, while some actors like Amy Adams couldn't handle his style of directing, J-Law is clearly made of tougher stuff and potentially thrives in an intense work environment, like some of the other actors who still sing his praises. Hollywood is very weird people, some actors and crew will put up with just about anything.
I’m going to agree with the rest of the comments and bring up the visuals are distracting and detract from the video. The other issue is you’re interlacing actual footage from the topic you’re referencing and then all of a sudden show a different movie or show featuring the same people which seems directly misleading.

As an actor, myself, I would not care to work with a director like Russell. I won't audition for a part, if I know the director is like that. I prefer there to be little drama on the set other than what's supposed to be shot. It is completely unnecessary for a director to abuse his cast and crew, and it's remarkable they can do a good job under such conditions. A younger me would likely have just taken the abuse, but today, I wouldn't tolerate it. Life's too short.
David O. Russell has been a huge help to me. I have bouts of insomnia. I ended up with a copy of Amsterdam. Sat down to watch it and it put me right to sleep. So now anytime I can’t sleep I pop that on and get a good night’s rest.
This is so disappointing to hear! I have been bullied and yelled at many different points in my career and it brings up a lot of existing trauma for me, especially because I cared so much about doing my best at work. Respect for coworkers should be the bare minimum! It should not be socially acceptable for men in positions of power to yell and have temper tantrums!
I was in a high paying job, but due to how I was treated my last role, I have not had the confidence to continue with my career.
The fact that he may have commited SA and was touching people inappropriately is just so much worse. I used to be a fan of some of his movies but I no longer want to support this director!

Less than a minute in and I can tell you that O. Russell will be getting financing as long as he can attract stars like Christian Bale to his projects. That's how he gets money for his movies: star power. Which is why he casts as many stars as possible.

I stopped respecting this dude when the Lily Tomlin footage came out. Everyone made all the excuses for him, which are the same excuses lots of men get when they act like megalomaniacal bastards. Flash forward to today, and we're finally "cancelling" this guy? I guess, We as a society, draw the line at only certain types of abuse, when abuse is abuse.
I Heart Huckabees is my favorite of his films, but it's been cribbed from so many other better foreign films, to the point that I just don't see an artist in this guy.

I found this video so overwhelming to watch as there is just waaaay too many fragments of other movies that had no correlation to the movie or person being talked about. I get where you're going with a literal crash or 'headbutt' but it was so confusing to watch.

I Heart Huckabees was an incredibly important film for me. I watched it during a period of time where I felt I had no direction and was miserable. The movie spoke to me in a profound way that helped me change my outlook on life. It really hurts to see that the person who made it was an absolute monster and I'm glad that we are calling these people out. As important as that movie was to me, it's not worth the damage he caused to others to make it.
You don't have to put so many silly images to explain what you're already explaining in your own words. It makes this feel like you are making the video to impress 12 years old. Besides that, great diction, good work. I support. 💪🏾😊

Russel sounds like my boss. Thats no joke. My boss didn't let a cheap worker go to vacation to see his family in Poland for Christmas, instead blamed him for mold damage in his messy house so he wouldn't need to pay his work. The worker did that task while having Covid and died from lung issues on December. My boss commented it with "Well and the last thing he did was removing my mold." Oh and he's rewarded by moving to a tropical paradise soon while leaving a badly running company, underpaid workers, unpaid licences and services, a scammed investor etc. behind him because never doing anything for your workers, not paying for equipment and modern slavery (and tax fraud) makes you rich. They literally replaced my working laptop with one I can't work with so they won't have to pay 1k bucks. Man I love having to get jobs!

People kept desiring to work with Roman Polanski for decades after he was literally convicted of statutory rape and then fled the country to avoid paying for his crimes. To this day he's wanted in the US, and to this day huge stars hold him in high esteem and continue to work with him. Directing a few successful films basically gives you boss health in Hollywood.

He always butted heads with directors, especially Werner Herzog( with whom he made some great films). Kinski was so troublesome,that it's said that Herzog thought about killing him. Also Kinski was abusive to his children too. He was really crazy, I mean he was literally insane.
