Every generation comes of age facing inevitable, individual, developmental challenges, as well as generational challenges thrust upon them from their time and place. For better or worse, because of the “Universal Draft”, my personal challenge coincided with my national moral challenge. To resist the draft was simultaneously to reject the moral argument for the Vietnam War. Today, “unfortunately”, the individual is not forced by Federal threat of jail to choose and the horrors of climate change are still largely imaginary. Humans are biologically engineered to react to the “Wolf at the door” much better than “In 50 years Miami will be under water”!
I think the only way to create the mass movements Hallen calls for is to ask our “Creatives”, our story tellers, our movie makers and News Makers to constantly remind us we need to act with urgency. Certainly, thousands of people interrupting “business as usual” will spread the seriousness our our situation and lead to politicians representing environmental values being elected to change government policies. The Boomers, like me, who brought all this on by their greed and shortsightedness are the ones who should lead the street protests!🤗

Surviving through a number of mini ice ages with little food around must have been gruesome. I guess that living in deep underground tunnels may have been warmer than above ground, but quite dangerous, gases and rock falls. Also, it must have been difficult to get fruit, (i.e. vitamin C,) so they probably suffered with scurvy. We also know now that sunlight is important to get vitamin D(3) in order for our bodies to overcome many diseases we face.

      @@arcang2102
Yep, Norway told them to push off. They are trying to remove the narrow bandwidth of sunlight which our bodies need to manufacture vitamin D.
These kind of things happen around every 400 years. However, this could be the last time it happens. They have identified themselves, not only to us, but also to GOD. It gives GOD no pleasure in punishing wicked people. He would much rather that they repented, followed His Statues, practicing Righteousness , (Mercy) and Justice, so that they would 'surely live' and not die.
I believe that we are entering 'end times' which is prophiced in the Bible. In the end, our souls will be attributed to God or to Satan, we will have no say in the matter, as we will have made our choice by our actions or non-action.
I suggest that all people make a decision now, whilst they are still able, to find out about Jesus Christ (who is actually GOD, He is 'The First and The Last'). Decide who one wants to follow. It has to be their own decision, no one else's decision.
I hope that you make the right decision and follow Jesus Christ and obtain salvation; for all people who received Him have the right to become Children (or Sons) of GOD, born of GOD [see John Ch 1].
      And see John 3:16-17,
      (16) "For GOD so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that who ever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life."
Whenever a sentence starts with a "For" or "Therefore", one has to read the previous text to see why the "For" or "Therefore" is there for.
In this case, one would find that there is an urgency, because if one did not act quickly, one would die.
I'll leave John 3:17 for the reader to read.
      One may question John 3:17 ;
      However, GOD comprise,
'GOD, The Father' (we worship Him in Spirit and Truth.),
'GOD, The Word of God' (see Genesis Ch 15:1),
'GOD, The Holy Spirit' (we call Him, "Holy Spirit", that is His Name.).
Now, 'GOD, The Word of GOD', through 'GOD, The Holy Spirit' was born of the Virgin May a Son, named, 'Jesus'; He is 'GOD, The Son of GOD', 'GOD, The Word of GOD', 'The Lamb of GOD', 'The First and The Last', 'The Son of Man', 'The Christ', 'The Messiah', ....
      Jesus Christ has many titles.
      So, We have,
      'GOD, The Father',
      'GOD, The Son of GOD',
      'GOD, The Holy Spirit',
Who is The One and Only Triune GOD, Who is One GOD.
Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD) said that He had been given Authority to lay His live down, and Authority to pick it up again.
Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD) said, "I am The Way, The Truth and The Life, no one come to (GOD) The Father, except through Me."
At the very end of the Book of Matthew is recorded what many call, "The Great Commission", Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD) told his followers to make Disciples in all nations, Baptising them into the Name of 'GOD, The Father,' 'GOD, The Son' and 'GOD, The Holy Spirit'.
So we need to make a decision now, whilst we still have time which I believe is running out, to find out about
Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD), and give our lives (our souls) to Him. Find an Alive Church and ask them to prepare you for baptism.
Note: When you give your life to Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD) it is Him alone you follow to the exclusion of all other gods, following His teachings putting His teaching into practice. You have the right to become Children (or Sons) of GOD, born of God.
Not only that, Jesus Christ (GOD, The Son of GOD), for those who would believe in Him and follow Him back then, and in the future as I have described above, He paid the debt for us, taking all of our sins upon Himself, for all people who would believe in Him, and die upon the cross for each of us, so that we would not have to go to Hell.
[Note, It is written that, 'The wages of sin is death.']
When I say I believe that time is short, it says at the end of the Book of Daniel, probably found on the last page of that book, or the previous page,
"That when the power of the Holy people is shattered, these things will happen." Daniel didn't understand.
But, now from what I understood, 'the Holy people' may not even have enough numbers to obtain a seat to sit in the Knessit. I heard that 45 of their young people who have been studying the Torah and following GOD's Laws and Statutes die through these present troubles.

Life per se, is not in crisis but you could say humans are because of their values, beliefs, perceptions of reality and their understanding or lack of it about the biosphere we share with all other things on the planet. What I find quite disturbing about this premise is that is a belief that is decided in closed minded way. Why would you think that telling young people their futures are going to be of no value to them because you believe without evidence that they will face annihilation. This is criminal and unfair, you are stealing their futures by saying they will have none. Perhaps the real story is about your psychology, and your inability to live in the world as it is with the psychology you have.
I would like propose an observation about you and what motivates you, which I am certain to get a great deal of push back about, but that is fine. I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that you are a sufferer of Complex PTSD. Did you like many people experience some type of painful or emotionally traumatic experience in early life or adolescence? This I believe, is evident in your world view, what you think is important and what emphasis you place on certain beliefs. If this is the case, and this trauma, is most likely an unresolved mental health issue, that will colour everything you think, say and how you behave. If you feel your gut instincts are leading you in the right direction, this is a mistake. CPTSD leads people away from rational thought to questionable emotional decisions. CPTSD leads to moribund cognitive function, a mental function required for objective analytical understanding of reality. It also leads to freedom of the mind and from any emotional traps or cages our experiences have constructed around our emotions to safe guard us from our own fears and ones neurosis.
Before you tell one more kid they have no future, ask yourself if you felt that way about your self back in the day. Has it turned out to be true or have you just created a reality that keeps letting you fight the good fight, without ever having to face your own identity annihilation?
It is worth noting as an aside that social science and political science are not real sciences, they are really about as scientific as economics and in truth are really branches of the humanities. True Science disagrees with your stated positions and beliefs about climate change. But perhaps you don't really care for the science as it doesn't fit inner narrative.

If anything, this guy’s criticism of the liberal class is 100% spot on. As someone who has studied graduate-level modern American history from the Gilded Age and Progressive eras in the US to now, the (historically and largely) white middle class has consistently been an inhibitor of necessary social, political, and economic change.
Edit: this man is saying what I have been thinking about regarding the various social and political issues that have been bogging down necessary transformative change. Daamn.

Annihilation triggers such hopelessness. I don't know how many people made it past the intro, but the suggestions for the structure of organization in movements and the action section of the video are all pretty helpful imo. The sections towards the beginning are interesting, but feel more targeted towards those who have already had experience movements so its probably going to ward some people away from the rest of the video.
The advice towards the very end is actually quite motivating and it's a great way to wrap up a video about an utterly depressing and despairing issue.
I listened to all of it, but if you don't have time for a super long video please just listen to the last 3 sections. I think it would be helpful for everyone.

And my friend built one that went over 100 miles to the gallon and had no emissions except water droplets. And they built a hydrogen cracker then his friend disappeared haha. And the guy who uploaded this video is getting over a hundred miles to the gallon on his custom propane engine truck.
"...My every day driver is a 1966 F350 with an experimental HCCI double acting fickett-jacobs cycle pulse detonation scotch-yoke engine with a roller bearing tunnel crank, no camshaft or valvetrain, and only two moving parts, that runs on propane, so what I use in my daily driver its not really useful information for most people. I use synlube for the transmission (NP435) gear oil, differential oil, and synlube grease for the kingpins and u-joint. I use amsoil air filters, amsoil metal protector for small exposed components such as the throttle mechanism, amsoil chain oil for the chain driven blower (yes that's a thing) and I use amsoil compressor oil for my air compressors. I also use amsoil products for my suspension fluid, but I use synlube's brake fluid for my brakes. I also use amsoils engine assembly lube when putting together a new prototype. I use synlube oil filters because they are pure microglass filters whereas amsoil is a hybrid microglass/pleated oil filter and is a good second best oil filter on the market because it contains a microglass secondary filter. I'll stand by both oil filters, but a pure microglass filter is better in the same way a top fuel dragster is "faster" than a funny car. I also use amsoil fuel filters. I'm not particularly brand loyal. I've used everything from bottom shelf wal mart cheap oil and grease to the big brands of all types. They all work and can have a place depending on what you're doing and going for."
"It is expensive up front, yes. EV's still don't get around the issue of lubrication as their bearings still wear out at about the same time that a ICE wears out. I'm not fully convinced on the future of EV's as new engine technology is also getting better at a rate that matches and could exceed the performance gains in battery tech. For example: my experimental F350 is currently getting 112 MPG on propane, which makes it cheaper per mile to drive than an EV. MPG's of up to 230 MPG are expected when I integrate adiabatic thermal cracking to allow the PDE to run on liquid fuels."
So we need to present this information at town meetings and local gov't.
Oil corporations, military intelligence, and Wall Street have a history of being short sighted opportunist gangsters - Wall Street funded the Nazis and the Russian Revolution for profit.
Of course this technology wouldn't have stopped the problem with America's narcissistic consumption... but if we had been levied a heavy carbon tax, and voluntarily depopulated the planet, and then were forced to use this technology in our cars and in industrial factories then we might have prevented the ice caps from melting haha.
So i was hoping you'd come to the town meetings to present this information with me?

They are all about being based in emotion that dictates their beliefs rather than logic, reason, and facts and actual knowledge and science which are based in critical thinking and rational thought. The Last generation : the current science say that if our governments do NOT reduce burning fossil fuels by HALF in the next 9 years, then I’m sad to say it could be the children right now who may not have the same long lives that the average person does now. my daughter is 27 and worries that she might not live to 50. So many chose not to have children because they could see the earth couldn’t handle too many people. And yet, in 2021, there are still citizens who think their genes are so special they can have 20+ children.

I just had a look at Roger Hallam's Patreon page. Very interesting.....
1, The Patreon contributions to Roger are to pay for a flat for him and his partner. I guess he still has his farm so this is a second home in London and he expects you to pay for it?
2, He charges VAT on the patreon donations. You only register for VAT if you are bringing in over £85,000 per year. So, it looks like he has a pretty big income from these 'donations'?
A nice income and a second home, all paid for by you. You might like to think about this when you watch his videos and blindly accept what he is telling you about imminent disaster. It looks a lot like a business designed to convince you to fund his lifestyle and pay for his second home.

I find it a bit fascinating that this showed up NO# 1 on my TH-cam this morning. Because for the past days all kinds of strange things were showing up on my feed, that has nothing to do with what was said here. For some reason my feed was on “automatic up-next” I didn’t set it my self on that, (I never have it on) because when you do, things just get weirder a weirder but I went through the rabbit hole anyway and ended up watching videos about weird things people have posted on Reddit among other strange things. I did turn off the automatic video/content feed and when I woke up today, there were completely different videos on my TH-cam with completely different content. They were all by serious, highly educated people (some I’ve seen before and read their books) concerned with the current status of the world. They all have a similar view and idealistic solutions as I have and is demonstrated in this video and yes 🙌🏼 I did listen to all of it. Although I share my ideas with these people, I’m not educated in the sense these people are, I’ve never really been an activist and I am 58 years old so I’m not exactly the young person this man is wanting to talk to. Even though I am highly concerned and agree with him on how hard it is to organize people long term in an effective way, I don’t know what to do, I feel paralyzed, because in the end the people, that are highly effective in bringing about social justice or any effective collective change for matter, get killed and are then turned into symbolic martyrs with statues of them thrown around parks and plazas. So what is the point? I’m not afraid to die at this time in my life, let alone do I give a rat’s ass about making a fool out of myself, but even if I were to be highly effective, I would just end up as a symbolic martyr in a form of a statue. The brutal truth is, the events that you are describing are going to happen, if anyone thinks otherwise, then they are delusional. The problem is, that none of us in the western world at least, are willing to give up, or even compromise our energy consumption because we don’t know how to do that. I live in this ideal area that is rural and beautiful with forested hills, tress that are tall as 4-8 story buildings. But if you take away my house and all the amenities of the modern world that I have in this settings, I’ll be dead within a week because I don’t even know how to survive without the modern world I was born into. Everything we have in the the modern world (except for personal computers and internet) was already here and in common use when I was born. That’s all I know. Not only that, all my training and conditioning that I got, was for that world only. I grew up in a country (Iceland) where the oldest house is from around 1885, because people there lived in houses built of earth. So even in the country I was born in, people went from being born into a civilization 1000 years behind Europe in late 1800s to a complete modernized world in about 70-80 years. The people in that hold the power and rule this world right now, have really thrown everything at us, including the kitchen sink to dived us, confuse us, keep us on a lower level of fighting amongst ourselves about things that don’t matter and the possibility of uniting against this this elusive (for a lack of a better word) power structure has been eviscerated. So what is it exactly that you want us to change? The truth is, we are no longer capable of preventing this mass death from happening. If you have spent your life fighting for it, honestly you have no more to show for than the “lip serving” liberals, radical or not, so you should know and you probably do know that this mass death of at least 1/2 of humanity is something we can’t prevent. This is the gruesome truth and as you know, those in power have absolutely no interest in preventing this from happening. They just don’t care.

Well, I think Hallam's description of the predicament facing humanity is spot on as is his analysis of what makes for effective action and the many pitfalls and distractions. That said, I have a couple of disagreements. First, I am very concerned that attempts at geoengineering could easily make a bad situation much worse. There are several books on the pitfalls of trying to engineer the climate and the crux of this problem is that the same geopolitical factors that have prevented meaningful curtailment of GHG emissions will also be at play with attempts regulate the planet's thermostat. In addition, any succession of the abatement may produce an abrupt spike in heating which could cause a corresponding spike in non-human extinctions. Second, I think we have to seriously ask whether the various governing entities of industrial civilization -- whose power is underpinned by the massive usage of fossil fuels -- could eliminate burning/using fossil fuels even if they wanted to. In fact it is arguable that the world would not be approaching 8 billion humans were it not for widespread fossil fuel use. Which leads to the third and last concern, that given conventional oil as well as a number of critical non-renewable resources are past peak extraction this industrial civilization has already started down the down slope of the collective resource Hubbert curve and will collapse in some manner; how fast and how far are the main unknowns. The politics of sustained contraction may well produce many of the dire scenarios Hallam described; the Haves will become ever more aggressive at grabbing what left to get from the Have Nots and of course the natural world. One has to wonder how effective Gaundian civil disobedience be in such an environment?
We humans have overshot the planet's carrying capacity -- the actual situation of which climate change is just one of many symptoms -- and are in what William Rees calls our "plague phase". I know for some that seems to equate humans with the rest of the animals but the reality is we _are_ animals and only rarely have exhibited thoughtful restraint, and usually only after learning the lesson the hard way. Our numbers are going to be coming down; many population ecologists say we are past a sustainable number by a magnitude which means 0.8 billion is what's sustainable. It may well be much lower given how degraded our space terrarium has gotten. In this light what actions make sense beyond promoting basic kindness and respect towards all of Life, humans included?

Everything you say is most likely true in the old world non- homeostasis thinking. By using the basic growth v resources v capacity of course it will seem as though the situation calls for a major reduction in human population.
The problem lies not in the population growth itself, but the system that manages it and it's corrupted service to the few greedy mega wealthy parasites who wish to maintain their hegemony.
The manipulation of human thoughts and emotions especially these last 100 - 150 years has become an industry in itself to serve growth and gain for the few.
Initially it helped to spread valuable information but this of course became corrupted and the propaganda machine was born. The fiat based system knew it's flaws but still proceeded to hoodwink the unsuspecting public.
Knowledge is power and this is why we are submerged now in trash media culture and fear mongering news to distract and divide populations from learning how to better this world.
The corrupters of the world wishes to keep populations addicted to nonsense and material gain so as to transfer more "real" wealth to that few % at the top of the pyramid.
Now we are nearing the end of this cycle - debt overtaking nations GDPs, they are looking for an exit plan = destroying all evidence of their mass corruption and crimes against humanity.
Depopulation is of course a commonly heard "solution"..and often often creeps up in elitest discussions.
We have no hope even with a smaller population with such twisted crony corrupters leading the way.
We do have solutions which are often ignored or ridiculed to maintain the lie.
You may have heard of the water based fuel system?
Or the multi use of Fungi in cleaning up things like pollution/ radiation / eating plastic or providing good food sources and a replacement to plastic, effective medicine etc etc.
The use of Fungi in Permaculture farming is hugely beneficial, producing far greater yields of quality food produce per hectare of land. Far greater then the huge wastage of resources we have now in commercial food production.
Holistic food systems have across the board benefits.
Grass fed cattle/animals as I said before raised through intelligent grazing mimicking natural predator prey patterns brings back land and biodiversity. It also uses very little resources - with almost zero reliance on oil.
We also need to reassess our dietary habits and look at the huge benefits of fasting and reducing food capacity and unnecessary wasteful junk food production.
Many people seem to have pime health on one good nutritious meal a day.
Intermittent fasting seems to be increasing in popularity.
There are just so many solutions out there for a far better society working with nature rather then against it.
Well worth listening to some of Manly P Halls talks as a starting point.
Just look at how Bangladesh turned around it's population crisis by "educating" people.
The population is not the issue, it's those lunatic deluded psychos at the top who are circumventing our natural evolution of a life of homeostasis on earth.
People need to be de- propagandised and re educated in how to live on this earth.
Manipulators and tyrants only distract humanity from it's natural path, the only serve themselves.
      It's time we wake up.

Ending poisonous industry and thus ending subsidies and wealth derived from them could be just enough of a shift to maintain the good stuff that we've built. I can only speak to the privileged here, who can connect the ledger amounts to see that gigantic profit and leverage could be eliminated. But boomer pension fund investment will go down the tubes and I think that is our biggest remediable obstacle. Asking boomers to relinquish their stock market investment, which are often public plans, administered by public servants. It's self-serving for boomers to claim it can't be done. Boomers could help us make the changes with least blood spilled, but will they?

Old people have the power to reverse global warming by going to the car dealership and saying 'here's your gas guzzler, I will only buy an electric car'; by going to the power company and saying 'don't tell me burning wood pellets is better than coal it isn't. One commentator said "You can't stop The Machine because it keeps you alive. But if you don't stop The Machine it will kill you. That's quite a dilemma." and that is a important fact to grasp. If all this effort of civil disobedience was directed at creating a parallel economy wich could sustain a different aproach to living, using automation to reduce effort and time spend in labor, investing in education as you begin stabilishing communes and trade rules between them, that could atract working people, and you could stabilish a route out of capitalism based on choice, not fight against the system and hope that something better prevail...
Civil disobedience plays a role, but is still asking. And you stiil have to take into account the fact that democracies are more and more eroded by big money in politics anyway, so dispite the pressure, the state will not lead if asked enough, it will do something simbolic until calm the nerves or go full police state if the stabilishment feel treatened. The state exists (by definition) to protect the Status Quo, to ignore that is to live in fantasy.
Paul Cockshot´s planning algorithms could be adapted to plan and organize production and economic activities in communes, and today a simple cellphone has more computing power than the computers of Apollo 11.
