  • This weeks video is the first in a series of videos detailing the replacement of 8 lead acid batteries in exchange for 4 lithium Ion batteries from Renogy, the strip down process (on Anchor) begins in this video and shows the appalling amount of cabling and useless cable ends removed to make space for the new batteries and associated charging systems
I am rebuilding the electrical system and once again using Victron products to control and regulate the charging process and the handling of information via the blue tooth app

That’s a fair point - I was pulled up on the “we” comment a few weeks back , old habits etc.

Great video Ian. A possible solution to your wind generator situation would be to have Lead Acid battery for your motor with a DC to DC converter to your LiFePo4 batteries. It is what we did on Make My Day to resolve the issue alternator issue. The DC to DC converter can be turned off via the BMS when the LiFePo4 batteries are full. The wind generator and alternator can continue charging the Lead Acid .
    Be well

Hi guys. The 24 volt domestics don’t have a sister bank to charge from so likely I will convert from 12 upto 24 as the 12 bank is full by 9 in the morning. I have options of another chargers controller for the wind or marlec have offered to reprogramme the existing one if I get it back to them.

As an electrician in the entertainment industry, I must say it's pretty gutsy to tackle your battery banks while on anchor.
I probably would have played it safe and done it in a marina, but who am I to judge anyone anyway.
A very nice video Ian, looking forward to seeing B/A in person.

I had hoped to get it done in the winter berth but time conspired against me , I’m not a carpenter or an electrician it seems. lol.
I could go to a town quay but if someone else picks up my anchor I’d be in a world of hurt with the electrics down

I could have gone onto a dock locally but the anchorage is really safe so took a chance

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing this. If I order everything you ordered when will you be able to come out and fit them on Cordelia? Joking aside, a list of everything that you ordered would be great so that we can start looking at maybe swapping over to lithium.
Hope you've been keeping cool in that extreme heat at the moment in Greece🥵

I’m ironing out the charging sources and the way they interact as my electrical system is overly complex. But the excess and usable power is nuts.

I can only imagine how uncomfortable that must be to be working down below in these temperatures. It must be a tad stressful too, being at anchor , with the additional pressure that brings. Have you got a wiring schematic of what your new electrical installation should look like to help you sort out the ‘snakes wedding’?
PS: Could you not get a space on the Iris jetty?

It has been immensely hot here , I am still evolving the plan. lol
