Two things are true re:Sheedy. Kevin Sheedy has been amazing for the game. He was an innovator and a futurist that could see something was well worth doing long before the rest of the footy world. He has been great for three separate football clubs and countless footballers careers.
He is was and will always be a legend of the game!!
But it is also true.. That with age he has become one of those out of touch dinosaurs.. that has no idea how the common footy fan thinks or perceives him.
He clearly cares more about the individual than the club itself. Because anybody working under the assumption that the club is bigger than the individual would not want James Hird anywhere near the club in any official capacity. Right at this moment I think the negativity he’s bringing to the club far outweighs anything he brings in a positive sense.
Everybody outside Essendon knows that the very last person Essendon should be looking at as head coach is James Hird. And everybody also knows that it wouldn’t even get past the first step if it wasn’t such an exulted figure of the club Spruiking the notion of bringing her back.
He is like a 45-year-old man trying to do the same things to pick up a girl that worked on a 21-year-old. The outspoken eccentric worked back then because all coaches were a little nuts and he was one of the best. But now he comes across like Sam Newman did at the end, where everybody in the industry except the man himself understood that the world had gone way past the times where the antics (that were part of his early success) could be looked upon favourably by the common punter.
    He’s already cost them Clarkson..
(I mean Clarkson might have rejected them anyway, but it’s been made very clear that any chance of getting him was minimal with sheeds and his big mouth on board.
And this is also ironic considering all of Essendon‘s problems started by sacking a successful coach after 27 years running a nationwide search only to hire the guy in the next room that was coaching the twos. So all of Essendon‘s problems started when they dumped sheeds.. and now I don’t think they can end them without dumping the same man from the board.
But he’s not alone, They’ve got a litteral proud Collingwood supporter on the board.
What sort of power hungry piece of 💩 joins a board they are not passionately invested in? That is somebody literally taking up a position of power at another club.. because the club is irrelevant they just want the position of power anywhere they can get it!! Imagine Collingwood having a Carlton supporter on the board or vice versa. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard since Jeff Kennett offered to become the president of Melbourne. I understand players coaches CEOs and administrators deal with a professional environment like any other workplace. Club loyalty and where your passion lies it’s just one factor. But an unpaid board member that is part of decisions that effect the club for decades afterwards. Should not be anybody that is not and always been passionately devoted to the club. The only reason she gets away with it is because women in the industry are a protected species.. and any attempts to judge them objectively like their male peers is always met with accusations of sexism and misogyny. So she gets to pretend that she’s a dedicated board member.. when in actual fact she doesn’t even measure up to any Essendon supporter that chose Essendon as their club for life. In reality any boardmember that prevented going after Clarkson in the appropriate time back when it was viable needs to step down. Plus everybody that stood by Rutten and any body part of the worstfold succession plan. Adrian dodorro has had a chance to watch multiple generations go from draft day to retirement without even winning a final. The first priority of any list manager is to build a list that has the capabilities of one day winning in a premiership.. Then Dodorro has been an abject failure for 20+ years. He should have lost his job when the salary cap was mismanaged so badly that they had to give up Damien Hardwick Justin Blumfield, Chris’s Heffernan and Blake Caracella. They gave Caracella n Hardwick to the next two premiership teams🤦‍♂️
Kepler Bradley, Scott Gumbleton where complete disaster’s and top 10 draft picks thrown down the toilet. I could go on and on and on. I don’t know why you need three past players on the board unless they bring something individual to the table from their life in the business. If you write all the best clubs in the 21st-century based on success.. They sit behind Richmond Saint Kilda Western Bulldogs and even North Melbourne. In fact there’s an argument to be made that other than Carlton they have been in the West Victorian club since the day after the 2001 grand final. There is only one figure from the past that should come back to Essendon and thats Peter Jackson to come back on a temporary basis to do what he did at the Demons. Other than that.. everybody and anybody outside of the past players that’s been part of the club for the last 20 years should be disqualified from any involvement whatsoever. Comparing Xavier Campbell to Brendan Gale O’Brien Cook is laughable. They need to start again from scratch

The entire club should not be in the AFL period. Sheedy is only interested in a pay check, the CEO and the rest of the board are only interested in a paycheque and so are all the players. As for Hirdy, please, give me a break. That’s like asking Buckley to coach any club with zero credibility. The only people that still have any or some hope of pride is the members. Start with the AFL taking over right now by picking a new and fresh CEO and coach at the AFL’s expense. Pick retired players to help in coaching with skills or just give another club to join the AFL.

It's clear that Lloyd has been using his media position to influence the internal politics of Essendon. David Barham in the media is echoing a lot of what Lloyd's said over the past couple of years. I usually like Lloydy but he's so biased here.

With you on that. Lloyd is usually much more "agreeable" and neutral with a lot of his opinions, even inclusive of Essendon. Even after implementing an experimental drug program and hiring a fitness guru known as "the weapon", James Hird still couldn't compile a winning record (41-1-42). Given his average results and tattered reputation, it beggars belief why anyone would even want him back. You NEVER go back, James should not coach is my opinion. Why is it that Dodoro NEVER gets any critical objective analysis on what is nearly two decades as recruitment officer? This is a rhetorical question - if I told EFC members he used to work at Footscray Council as a lowly admin officer how many would believe me? He has 0 background in footy, local level, juniors. The legend Noel Judkins was allowed to be poached by Eddie - we have never been the same, AD refuses to recruit Selwood type big body utilities. The club is a mess.
