    They missed on pointing out another dud. McKay. $800,000 per season ? And you wonder why they haven’t been a power club for more than 20 years.

  • @LeighWHeard

    This is painfully accurate. Their season was on the line, and they kicked 1.9 in the fourth quarter. They gifted Gold Coast their only away win of the season. After coming from nowhere to beat Fremantle the previous week, there was hope. There was a slight pulse. Now, it's just yet another season of wasted opportunity and hollow promises.
    You should add the game against Melbourne, too. No Petracca. No Gawn. But it rained. And we all know how well Essendon adapts to wet weather football.
    With the run home after the bye of only one game away from Melbourne, in the final round against Brisbane, they have nobody other than themselves to blame for the crap they've served up week after week. I'm just fortunate that I'm old enough to remember the Essendon teams of 1981-2001. Because, I don't see them rising to that level again until at least the 2030s.

      yeah, stop saying theyre kids. theyre one of the oldest lists in the AFL. its clearly the senior players, who in other teams would carry and sink those key goals, dont exist on the bombers. and the rookies are not being led by a good example to extrapolate that.

      “One of the oldest lists in the AFL”
      What? No they aren’t. At the start of the season they were the seventh Youngest that’s no where near one of the oldest. And you gotta remember Goldstein’s recruitment bumped their average age up a little higher. So they’re seventh Youngest with Goldstein RAISING the average age of the team. Realistically their list IS one of the younger ones.

    If you look up the definition of frustration in the dictionary it reads - “Essendon FC, a supporter of…”
    I have run out of useable straight jackets over the years. If I could pick one player over the last 20 years for an AFL team it wouldn’t be the flashy 100 goal per season forward or mid that won a Brownlow medal and averaged 35 possessions, it would be Luke Hodge. A true hard nut no compromise competitive intimidating beast. A true leader who took the bull by the horns. The list has been the problem for too long, in particular the “nice” leaders. So many first round draft picks and severe lack of elite players.

    • @RyanQuinn0397
      @RyanQuinn0397 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As a Collingwood supporter I'd like to finally say congratulations! you've uncovered the secret.
      Essendon just hasn't got it in the last 20 years... Too many nice, decent skills types. Problem is your skills go out the window when you're under physical pressure.
      The reason our mob always competes and wins our share of finals, yes not as many flags as we may have liked, but its because we have the tough nuts. Got to have some mongrel in a competitive sport, topped with a bit of flair...
      Harden up dons it's that simple.

    Play 2 top 4 sides in the next two weeks and we could win one. Haven't been able to say that in the past 20 years. If the whole team plays well they can beat anyone. Problem is we have a rotating passenger list

    • @DaveyGrimmett
      @DaveyGrimmett 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s the thing, they can beat anyone but when it comes to pressure and must win games they ultimately fall short. With results going their way as well with the blues and bulldogs losing it’s a massive missed opportunity. Seems to be a common theme late in seasons for them tho.

      Its not draft pick failures you spud
      There’s something more going on behind the scenes, when a draft pick enters a club they’re essentially like a fresh piece of clay, ready to be moulded into however the club wants them.
      History has shown that a lot of these guys aren’t establishing themselves long term meaning it’s more likely the senior management staff/players who are having a negative effect here

    It’s bad when you’ve only got one player in the team who’s tasted premiership success, and stringer is as flakey as they come, so that doesn’t help, the leaders of the team don’t know what it takes, so how can they mentor the young guys 🤷‍♂️

  • @Andy-o2f
    @Andy-o2f 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Who in their right mind had the EFC in the top 4 this season?! They were always ~7-12 depending on a series of factors, and that's where they'll finish! Furthermore, their "upside" is only moderate at best.

    • @richardbehan8118
      @richardbehan8118 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    From a coaching standpoint the club desperately needs much better Assistant Coaches because aside from Daniel Giansuricusa presently and the likes of Simon Goodwin and Bomber Thompson in the past the club has largely had horribly average Assistant Coaches for many years and usually from really bad teams.
    From the standpoint of the Coach alone. Brad Scott needs to adapt to the modern game and try coaching from the bench every now and then. Most Coaches in the competition now do so especially during close games.

    • @kyalking1313
      @kyalking1313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @jimmycastellano5316
      @jimmycastellano5316 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep couldn't agree more. You look at Ken Hinkley or Craig McCrae that coach from the bench and when the players come off they give them positive feedback or constructive criticism and it just breeds unity and energy on the bench to know as a player the coach has got my back. What has Brad Scott got to lose by trying this? In my opinion I think Brad Scott isn't that type of coach and probably wouldn't consider it but guys like Perkins who was really struggling weeks ago really needed that interaction on the bench to turn around that spiral towards poor form and he isn't the only one. As for assistant coaches, we definitely need some more experience than what we currently have. If the players are mentally weak then they aren't receiving the help they need when they aren't on the ground.
