I like how the conflict was deescelated instead of fought out till the end. In a lot of modern science fiction that is darker something good like that would not happen. In Mass Effect you have people who both as individuals and groups are worth fighting for. I recently saw a TH-cam video about the history of the series. They said something about being intentionally less dark than other sci-fi. I think they hit the sweet spot in this. A decent galaxy with bright and dark spots, diverse, and not totally moral or immoral.
This game will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up playing this saga and it really made me fascinated and thought-provoking about the milky way galaxy beyond our earth. It really made me wonder if our galaxy has other alien life forms besides us humans and whether they are intelligent or not. The existence of Reapers as an extraterrestrial machine really made me fear them as angry gods on annihilation path against all the intelligent species, which really shows how perfect the storytelling and lore the game delivered. Although the ending of the game was controversial, still I enjoyed every moment of this sci-fi masterpiece.

I’m so glad they released ME: Legendary Edition. I played the trilogy many times through and I wasn’t THAT young when I did. But I was young and it was many years ago that I last did a playthrough. My perception of the games has changed so much for the better as I’ve grown as a person. These games have aged like fine wine in my perspective. For one thing I didn’t appreciate or pay enough attention to the lore of the world I guess when I was younger. Now I’m so into this world! I’m so into this lore! I didn’t realize the First Contact war was so recent. It wasn’t till ME:LE that I payed attention and realized I had spoken to many survivors of the war. I always just dismissed Ash Williams and Presley and others as egregiously racist xenophobes without considering how recent the context was for their feelings. I still don’t agree with them, but it does bring a level of understanding to how they got there. But don’t you dare talk shit about my alien friends!!!!
Gotta love the Quarian lore, but my favorite has to be the Turian. Fell in love with Garrus' character when I first played ME1 way back when and could never shake my affinity for them since.
This is a really good video to show first timers to get them familiar with the world, though I can also see it being a little overwhelming at first lol. I have a friend whose first time playing Mass Effect will be the remastered version, so thank you for somehow being able to condense the insanity of the ME back story in a matter of 10 minutes! Major kudos to that! She will love this!
It's like when you look up actual human history, and be it from WW2 , or ancient Egypt, it in the grand scheme of things, it basically has happened yesterday.
My alien race I wanted to know more about was the Turians because of their military background and the fact of the first contact war which is why they are one of my favorite alien races of all time
I really don’t get why people hate her so much. Everything she said is virtually true and the most glaring example is the Reaper invasion. Most Turians openly show their disdain for Humans, Asaris talk shit about Humans and Salarians look down on Humans. She’s not racist, my Shepard is though.
I feel like the Turians violated rules of engagement by opening fire on the human survey fleet. Activating dormant mass relays is dangerous because no one knows what's on the other side and the last time someone activated a dormant relay, it led to a massive war; if the Turians had gone on an open channel and explained that, any and all bloodshed probably would've been avoided. Then again, it's debatable if the military-entertainment complex has EVER paid attention to rules of engagement.
I thought the Turians did not initially believe humans were a brand no galactic species? The Turians just thought they were terrorists or pirates. It wasn’t until the war actually began that they discovered the humans were a brand new galactic species
fun fact, that was not mentioned in the video. In ME 1 you can actually do some training missions and if you finished all of them, the leader of the acadamy offers you a special simulation, that actually takes part during the first contact war.
I liked Asari and Liara the most. What fascinated me about them was their diplomatic attitude, beauty, openness, wisdom and the fact they are so advanced, while being peaceful.
I don’t know why but turians immediately called my attention.I personally love their designs and voices. Garrus is my favorite but I like the csec officer in ME1 and nylus very cute xD
Javik is someone I was excited to see since he was the last Prothian. He was hid behind Online DLC the first time. I can’t wait to play him and hear his dialogue on everything in M3LE.
I started and only played mass effect andromeda, and the first race I saw that I said wow, was the krogan, I immediately wanted one to be in my crew, but when I met the angarians, I was amazed by their technology and all, I think they are the coolest for now
I played Mass Effect 2 first so the first Aliens I saw was a Quarian and the Collectors. I got the game for free with my XBOX360 and i'd never heard of Mass Effect before that.
What i like in the ME lore is that humanity isn't the underdog, they actually have one of the strogest militaries in the galaxy, probably second only to the turians. Compare that to Halo where the UNSC is totally outclassed by the covenant and somehow still manages to survive for 30 years.
For me it was the krogon. I always new that there was more to there culture then war. But one thing I really love about Mass Effect is that culture norms are not absolute not all of any of the race have the same mind on a any give matter.
The First Contact War, a war where the Humans weren't decimated out of the gate, launched a large counter-attack, which was like punching the Turians in the mouth and knocking out a tooth, and receiving the respect of the Turians, even though they wouldn't admit this for decades. All in all a good outcome for Humanity. And this all leads to one of the most beautiful ships in the universe being created through their joint efforts.
If you think about it the humans have some reasons to be resentful of the council, they want humans to expand in the terminus systems because it would enlarge the citadel economic zone, bringing in more resources and goids to trade, not to mention that in order to establish colonies the Alliance would need to pacificate and patrol an entire system or even cluster, in that area only a handful of planets can be suitable for human colonization, but there would be other planets next to them that are uninhabitable for humans but perfect for other species, so the Volus or Elcor could just move to these planets and enjoy free protection from the Alliance. Humans think that they shouldn't be left alone in this effort, that they deserve help, especially military help, from the council, the council however doesn't want to be involved directly to avoid full war with the Terminus systems, wich is understandable. What i would like to know is if the Terminus systems are really dangerous enough to justify such hesitancy, or if they are just stingy and don't want to bear the costs of such military operations.
I would LOVE to see the next mass effect take place in the aftermath of the reaper war but with more relays being activated ushering new races into the galaxy. That way humanity ca get to experience what the council experienced when dealing with humanity for the first time: new races that are potentially deadly, potentially peaceful and potentially useful. Each new race rich in their own unique history, culture, customs and technology.
If Bioware makes another Mass Effect game it should take place during the First Contact War and the months that follow, just my own personal opinion. It won't be the high stakes of the original trilogy of galactic annihilation, but the stakes of aliens who want to destroy humanity (from a human perspective) would be very interesting. Then after the war trying to figure out humanity's place in galactic policies.
They really need to make a new Mass Effect game in episodic fashion to where base game have you play 3 different points in mass effect history like you play as a hero in the first contact war and you see how the events of that played out. Next story is maybe you play as a Krogen and fight in the Rachni wars and then see what happens with with the genophage. maybe last story be how you play as a quarian and go through the geth creation and rebellion. Then new stories come out later about different history points in the lore you can explore
The Asari was my first alien that was fascinating. Not only do they look amazing but they are very human like and also the fact that they are able to mate with any species but they can live over 1000 years :O And also their entire race is all female. No males what so ever. Still very fascinating as I think about it lol
The First Contact War was a massive example in fiction of 'Failure to communicate' Ignorance and fear had gotten the better over reason and compassion. I just hope for humanity's sake, if a real life 'First Contact' occurred establishing *communication* would be the utmost first priority.
Krogans. A prey species that turned into the dominant force on its home world, learned to co exist with massive sand worms, built massive architecture, and damn near killed themselves in nuclear holocaust. Only to be uplifted and used as tools of war. Then got too big for their britches when they demanded a bigger slice of the pie.
The Hanar were the first race to make me immediately pause, pink squids with echoing god voices that speak about religion (protheans) , they refer to themselves as this one or it , and do not use pronouns unless they feel comfortable around you.
I was most curious about Turians specifically because of the First Contact War and the creation of the Normandy. I found it odd that Garrus didn't have a lot to say about it and didn't seem at all hesitant about joining and supporting Shepard. They were both young when it happened, but the game on multiple occasions gives you opportunities to be prejudiced specifically towards Turians. Maybe that prejudice was learned from their parents, but then couldn't that be true for Garrus? Were his parents not bigoted towards humans? It seems unlikely given what we know about Garrus' dad, a by-the-books guy who probably sees humans like his son, reckless and impatient. Maybe that's why Garrus forms such a close friendship and/or love with Shepard, he relates more to them than even other Turians. Then again, in the first game if he gets really ticked off he'll call Shepard "human". Maybe he has some hidden prejudice too? I love the dynamic, especially because humans and Turians are so similar. Even more similar to each other than humans are to other species.
This is probably the one story in Mass Effect that I want to play. Fuck Andromeda. Give us First Contact. I want to feel the suspense Earthborn soldiers and scientists feel by finding alien life for the first time in human history.
I was gonna say how can they mistake a massive mass relay for a moon but then remembered that we can't even seem to make our minds up if Pluto is a planet or not 😄😄
They need a Mass Effect game based on the first contact war. Perhaps it could be about Shepherd's parents! Irrelevantly, Mass Effect should also be based in the Arcturus Galaxy.
I think if they ever made a film in the Mass effect universe it should be on the first contact war. A really strong but isolated story that's could be epic in scope, pleasing to fans but also friendly to newcomers to the franchise.
The First Contact War is more of a show material. They could nail a 1 season, 10 episodes show if they really wanted to.
So true!
One of Shepard's backstories might be more appropriate

Javik is someone I was excited to see since he was the last Prothian. He was hid behind Online DLC the first time. I can’t wait to play him and hear his dialogue on everything in M3LE.
Throw him out the airlock
thanks for building the hype for the remastered!! im so pumpd
Mass effect 4 should be set in the first contact war. That would be epic.
Personally I think that should be a spin off or somthing but both options sound like a good idea
I started and only played mass effect andromeda, and the first race I saw that I said wow, was the krogan, I immediately wanted one to be in my crew, but when I met the angarians, I was amazed by their technology and all, I think they are the coolest for now
Probably the Elkor and Hanar, which are aliens that actually feel like aliens, not humans in makeup.
And the krogan, volus, geth, salarians and to a lesser extend turians. Asari and drell are very humanoid. Others fall in an in between catagory.
Yaaas beyond ready to hope back in this game world 😭
Mass Effect: First Contact. Would buy in an instant.
I wish instead of Mass Effect 4 (or 5 however you wanna see it), we would get a prequel about the First Contact War playing as David Anderson...
Krogans always fascinated me
Always wanted a first contact war game.
Well explained. Got me a riled up for LE.
There's nothing I wanted more from the franchise than a game set during the First Contact War
Thank god those conflicts were in the past, Normandy with out garrus calibrating it’s weapons has no chance against threats
im glad to see mass effect still gets Attention
I would LOVE to see the next mass effect take place in the aftermath of the reaper war but with more relays being activated ushering new races into the galaxy. That way humanity ca get to experience what the council experienced when dealing with humanity for the first time: new races that are potentially deadly, potentially peaceful and potentially useful. Each new race rich in their own unique history, culture, customs and technology.
Garrus is bro... I believe in Turrian - Human relations - they have the most in common in comparison to other species
I love these gamer friendly videos!! Keep them coming!!!
Not only do they look amazing but they are very human like and also the fact that they are able to mate with any species but they can live over 1000 years :O
And also their entire race is all female. No males what so ever. Still very fascinating as I think about it lol
The First Contact War was a massive example in fiction of 'Failure to communicate'
Ignorance and fear had gotten the better over reason and compassion.
I just hope for humanity's sake, if a real life 'First Contact' occurred establishing *communication* would be the utmost first priority.
Fuck no ! I hope not, aliens should be oofed.
I've been fighting the urge to play Mass Effect until the remaster releases. Can't wait...
“Thinking nothing of it, humanity starts reactivating every relay they can find.” Lmfao, sounds exactly like us.
Krogans. A prey species that turned into the dominant force on its home world, learned to co exist with massive sand worms, built massive architecture, and damn near killed themselves in nuclear holocaust. Only to be uplifted and used as tools of war. Then got too big for their britches when they demanded a bigger slice of the pie.
This was really well explained, great job, and Thank You!
The krogans and drells are my favorites, I wish we could see more drells in the games.
It’s crazy how much lore there is in mass effect if you take your time as you need to read most it
The Hanar were the first race to make me immediately pause, pink squids with echoing god voices that speak about religion (protheans) , they refer to themselves as this one or it , and do not use pronouns unless they feel comfortable around you.
Turians and Krogen are tied in my book, warrior to warrior I respect capable and honorable fighters.
I advise everyone to read the books (atleast the first three) as they tie into the games and fill some nice back story
Agreed and skip 4 because it actively breaks the lore many times.
Only read the first 1 but have all 3, waiting for the legendary edition to drop so I can tie them all in together after all this time, can't wait!
The concepts and lore in the Mass Effect universe is unparalleled! So damn fantastic!
Halo comes pretty close tbf
Quarians and that lizard dude that talks fast while spacing out👍🏾
I was gonna say how can they mistake a massive mass relay for a moon but then remembered that we can't even seem to make our minds up if Pluto is a planet or not 😄😄
Never played ME1. Thanks for this!
I really hope the next game series being worked on covers the first contact war.
Such fascinating lore ! I love this Universe.
I cant wait to return to this world once more.
I kinda wish that they would make a prequel covering the first contact war.
Remember vote Tera Firma, cause Tera Firma remembers you.
Need more of these!
Only more impatient now for the trilogy
They need a Mass Effect game based on the first contact war. Perhaps it could be about Shepherd's parents!
Irrelevantly, Mass Effect should also be based in the Arcturus Galaxy.
there should be a mass effect game every 2 years. the fact that we didnt get andromeda dlcs is a shame
It could lead to the discovery of a potentially dangerous species. Hello Humans.
