I really think the whole "steven was too fucked up" to drum thing was a lie because the rest of the band was too jaded to recognize stevens talent... except for maybe izzy
The real reason Steven was fired is because Axl’s girlfriend confided in Steven while her and axl were fighting and Steven did heroin with her. It was over after that. Axl tried to hunt Steven down with a shotgun. Luckily he didn’t find him that day.
Steven was the only one who would tell Axl to "f*** off"; Slash and Duff were too messed up to care what Axl thought, and Izzy was too detached and honestly already one foot out the door as soon as he sobered up. But the reality is...if Steven would've gotten himself in a place to put the dope down and really focus on pulling the Illusions together, he wouldn't have been fired - they needed to get back to work, and Steven was already the "weak musical link" who also didn't write songs. His best ability had always been availabilty, in fact, the only reason he was in Guns was because Rob Gardener balked at the "Seattle Hell Tour" and Steven took his place. As soon as they got into the studio in January 1990, it became obvious very quickly that something needed to change. By April, when they played Farm Aid, Slash and Duff were already eyeing Matt Sorum...and if you really listen to Steven's drumming at Farm Aid, he wasn't playing well - tempos dragging or pushing, Duff trying to help him heep time, Steven unsure of the breaks in the song - and you can't say he didn't KNOW it, because there are rehearsals of him playing it and they had already recorded the studio version by that point! So the reality is...by late 1989/early 1990, Steve was smoking crack constantly - there's like an MTV Rock N Jock interview from early 1990 where you can almost smell the freebase coming through the TV off of Steve...you can see it, the puffy bloated alcoholic who smokes crack all day sheen, only one way to get that... So yeah, Steven and Axl definitely had issues (but Axl has C-PTSD - he was gonna have issues with EVERYONE until he went to therapy), but hey...is Steven shooting Erin Everly up with dope any worse than Axl banging Steven's girlfriend AND PUTTING HER MOANS ON THEIR FIRST ALBUM? (Rocket Queen) These guys were animals, Steve and Slash had threesomes with Steven's girlfriend, they ran trains on girls, Slash and Duff would rifle through their purses and steal anything they had while Steve/Axl/Izzy kept them preoccupied. They'd have girls up in the makeshift loft, shut off the lights and say "lights off, clothes off!" Axl got accused of raping an underage girl. Even Slash himself said they didn't care what Steven was doing, didn't even really care about him or his health but that he had let them down by not being able to play drums, and that was unacceptable. And I actually believe Slash for once. About the From summer 1989-on, for whatever reason, the band wasn't making any progress. Chicago was a bust. They had the songs written...but Steven just wasn't focused on playing music. By April, they had been trying to start work on ANYTHING, and had exactly one song in the can. "Civil War". And when they went to play Farm Aid on national TV, Steven comes running out, does some flying swan leap towards his drum kit...and falls a few feet shy. I don't know what he was doing, but...I'm pretty sure his bandmates went "WTF?" just like everyone watching at home or in the crowd. And they start the song they just recorded...and Steven doesn't remember it. Doesn't come in where he's supposed to come in, his tempo is dragging because he's not confident, Axl gets pissed, starts fucking up the words (that's why axl has used teleprompters since the early days...) and I'm pretty sure his fate was sealed right then. Make no mistake - Axl was pissed at Steven...but they let Steven dig his own grave in regards to getting kicked out of Guns N Roses. I mean, you literally have to be so fucked up you can't play at all, and that's pretty much what happened. So once that was the reality, ALL of the other reasons (him and Axl don't get along, he shot Erin up with dope, he really isn't that great of a drummer anyway) THAT'S when all that came out, in hindsight. Facts are, they were raring to go and were handicapped by Steve's drug use. he obviously knew the songs, and it's not like November Rain is so much different than Don't Cry, drum-wise. Steven played Locomotive and Don't Damn Me and Back Off Bitch and Garden of Eden, so they were trying to get it done with him. He just wasn't on the same page. And everyone acts like Izzy quit becauseSteven left, wich is ridiculous - it was a unanimous decision to put Steven on probation and bring Matt Sorum in as "session guy", but when Steven left rehab and showed up to Conway Studios completely blitzed and expecting to play drums, it was like, everyone realized dude wasn't living in reality. Axl wasn't there, but Matt Sorum was, and it was like Steven was on a different planet. Slash was just giving Steven enough rope to hang himself, and as soon as Steve showed up to Conway all fucked up, Slash told Axl and Axl fired Steven. So Steven really did it to Steven. So yeah, just because he was playing those songs from 1985-1988 and can play the shit out of those songs NOW, by the end of 1989 dude wasn't even living in reality and was a musical liability. And in the end, not being available when his band needed him most is why he got shitcanned. Irony of all ironies is they replaced with another drummer who wasn't afraid to tell Axl what he really thought...
Yeah more popping sounding. Appetite wouldn’t have been the same with Sorum instead of Adler. He truly gave it a unique sound and a great energy. Sorum is a thunder drummer Adlers a Crispy drummer.
If only Axel had not been such a narcissist. Once, he had the right voice to match Slash, Izzy and Steven. But his self belief, belittled the talent of the rest. His last and final straw is, his friendship with Slash. Fuck, if I was the singer in a band with Slash, you’d know my name. But these days, if I played drums for Axel, you’d forget me yesterday.
No bro!!
@@DamiMonky interesting. I’m a guitar player and don’t know too much about drums, but I do prefer Steven’s style to Matt’s. Matt’s playing seems a bit boring in comparison.
It's like AC/DC or something like that.
More please , anything with Steven.
Nice to hear Slash killing the blues!!
There is a demo of Steven in Coma but someone is hoarding it.
UYI with Steven and no Dizzy would have been epic.
I want the old double talkin jive... the shit slash was laying sounded sick
Seriously… fuck hoarders
this is not a demo, this is a studio rehearsal
Dizzy didnt play on UYI
@@thabudmaster Um, Dizzy is all over UYI.
Interesting to see the song being worked out compared to the final album version. The Audio was too heavy on guitar though.
Архивные записи радуют,к сожалению новые концерты не смотрибельный для меня.
Great!! i like so much heard some demos where steven play drum!!!
I think we can hear izzy on vocals here, duff in some places too. But it's clearly Steven on drums I didn't know they rehearsed that song with him
They rehearsed practically all of use your illusion 1And some; from 2
In fact, only Slash, Duff and Steven play in this demo
gracias por estas joyas master
Amazing. Muito melhor!!!!
Dang, Matt Sorum could not replicate this jiggity groove to save his life.
Never heard this demo before! freaking cool. If you like GN'R check out this band's channel ;)
¿is this from the 1989 Chicago rehearsals ?
Andres.. I guess so, I'm not really sure !! all the recordings with Steven that I have have the same quality and console sound!
Who is playing The guitar?? Izzy??
Izzy in back (and low volume) rhythm guitar, but I guess Slash is playing lead guitar (high volume)
Izzy and Slash
In fact, only Slash, Duff and Steven play in this demo
@@TheGeneral-qj7lx
Not only u can hear Izzy on vocals w Duff but u can hear his guitar especially in the solo... It's just low
Adler has so much more swing and groove than Sorum.

Oh, Izzy recognized it. I think firing Steven was the first blow to Izzy that would eventually cause him to jet.
@@jkckmarcumful i think so too

@@aricfrank I've heard that him and Axl never got along. I have heard that about Steven and Erin Everly, too. It was either heroin or a speedball.
