I admire your perseverance! Many years ago I attempted a night time painting session using nothing but a headlamp. In the morning, I discovered the painting came out a brown color.
I have had the same results and it indeed is frustrating. I upgraded to a couple of belkin neutral book lights and then to one on Amazon that works well. I love the mood an orange glow gives a scene, but it is difficult to paint under without a strong neutral light. Another thing is I have a white based pallets that has help with mixing. Hope that helps!
Bravo! I have long thought of going out at night to paint. Looks like the are some advantages these days. Definitely not as many people coming up to ask questions.
Looks great, really caught the mood of the bright street lights. I always enjoyed photographing railway station platforms at night, they have a very even but slightly spooky light, almost Hopper like. I’ve subscribed and look forward to the next one 👍🏻🇬🇧
You are a brave man, Doug. You, however, have really pulled it off giving us an appreciation of what could be just an eyesore but not through your eyes. A really wonderful work of art. Difficult to believe that police and security could see you as any kind of threat. I think the environment looks more threatening than an artist giving us insight. Blessings from Aus. 🦋🇦🇺❤️
Thank you Cassandra, I’m glad you liked the painting! Unfortunately, construction sites are open targets for theft of materials and equipment. So, I don’t fault them with having security. For years, that site has been filled with excavators and scrapyards. It’s all gone now with parking garages and soon to be built condo high rises. Will have to find new places to paint with a little more industrial urban character.
I’m from a small town, but our local PD basically said we could give ‘em a call before we go out and paint and they’d assuage any concerned onlookers haha. Might be helpful!
Small towns are always great and I've never had trouble painting in them. Even big cities like San Francisco never bother me. My home town can be challenging at times...
Thanks Greg! This time it wasn't where we were, but my truck was parked in a school parking lot. He said he noticed us on the security cam. Guess it took him an hour finally go out and see what we were up to and tell us that my truck was in a restricted parking lot, even though there wasn't any signs that I saw driving in. The city has been funny about people on city property after dark since the pandemic. At least we finished!
I want to try nocturnals, I dont know why i have this fear of gangs at night or police. Being that its winter in upstate New York, I will start with painting in my truck and see how it goes. Thanks for the inspiration to try it.
Really surprised at both your subject matter and what you were able to produce with the night scene. A very nice piece of work and I'm sure it has inspired others to give it a try. Interesting and informative and have subscribed to your channel and looking forward to looking at your other uploads. So good to watch. Many thanks for uploading.....
Thank you! Hope to get back to shooting more videos soon. I've been deep in some commissioned projects with tight deadlines, but once they are completed, I'll be back to painting!
Awesome!, love ot
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful oils. Daring to paint at night, least you don't have to worry about crowds or traffic distractions
Thank you! Sometimes crowds are fun. Just depends on how tired I am.
one of the better nocturnes I've seen on YT
Thank you! I’m hoping to belt out a couple more soon!

Brilliant work. Great video with some street smart tips and tricks which you won’t learn from an art class. Thanks heaps
Thanks Brian! Glad you liked the clip. Art school leaves out a lot of useful info the kids would benefit from. Business and Marketing for starters....

This is a really cool painting. I was wondering if you are still using Day tripper easel? Looks pretty sweet, I think it is what I will go with.
Thank you! I still use it outdoors and indoors. It's my favorite easel by far!

Thank you Reiki!
It looks like it turned out great. I don't understand why you were asked to leave it looked like you were on a public sidewalk?

Thanks Scotty. There have definitely been times where the weather as been to windy that I have resorted to painting in my car. It is totally doable!
Awesome, I'm surprised the cops didn't stop by
Thanks Jimmy! They have in the past, but I've been able to get my paintings done.

+1 👍🤝
Thank you!
I dont think i could that 😮...if the cops saw me painting....probably would give me a ticket for a bad painting 🤔
Good paintings are built by thousands of bad paintings!!! Take it one at a time!
Beautiful painting.
Thank you!
