    For me, using the G7 has been a frustrating experience. I’ve been using it for about six months now. Not one of them has lasted 10 days. In fact, only once have I gotten seven days. The average is about five. I also get far more in accurate readings with the G7 than I did with the G6. Almost all of the inaccurate readings have been lows. And, most of these inaccurate Lows come during the night, waking me up. I have an appointment with my doctor in two weeks, and I want to discuss with her, possibly going back to the G6. I’m writing this comment just as I’m going to bed. Here’s hoping I can sleep through the night without the alarm going off. If you’re wondering if I’m using the G7 correctly, the Diabetes educator at the clinic I go to says that I am.

    G6 lasted 8 days. I used G6 for a year. I have my first G7 on now, back of arm, felt like a 3” knife went in, it has been painful but my 10 days are almost over, I’ll put the next one on my stomach. So far so good for accuracy. G6 had more lost signals, every week, it read for 3 hours, off 2 hours. Hated the G6!!!!G6 was always OFF range. Would beep low 60 and falling, but was actually 215, or high, 250 and it was actually 140. Constant calibration. G7, calibrated once so far.

    Thanks for the great review. However you should be aware that glucometers provide results that are within ±15% of the lab 95% of the time. This means if your lab test results show a blood glucose value of 170, your glucose meter reading must fall between 145 and 195 to be considered within the window of accuracy. The CGM must also provide the same accuracy to substitute for a needle stick. So if the G7 reading is 190 and the glucometer reading is 150, you are within the accuracy window and calibration is not needed.

    • @wan2852
      @wan2852 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We all tend to assume our meter is more accurate than our CGM and disregard the CGM when correcting. There is a decent chance this is wrong. The nub is then determining which reading to base a correction upon.

    • @brittneyharris-holloway5792
      @brittneyharris-holloway5792 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But that kinda makes the CGM redundant, right? Esp. if the CGM points to the BGM for more accuracy. if the whole point is to replace the point of the finger pricks, I would generally expect them to have the same accuracy rate

    I'm in week 3 of my Libre 3. It has connection issues too, but alarms and recovers quickly. Of course, the concern is losing connection while sleeping and having a critical low at the same time. That gets dangerous. I'm using the meter. FYI, the first 2 sensors I used failed, both because of user error. But they were replaced. The real issue I have with Libre is that the support is horrible. They have language (Chinese) barrier issues, and they don't understand their own products. All they are is note takers. I'm watching your video because I want to see if switching to the G7 is a better option. Thanks for your review.

    Hello. New to your channel. Just started G7 about three weeks ago. Always wore G6 on arm. I have very thin arms. Had G7 compression loss of contact every night. I put it on the fattiest part under arm. Changed to top or arm where I wore the G6. No loss of service. Never liked placement on abdomen. Have an Iport for MDI on abdomen. In my opinion adhesive does not work. Last sensor I put SkinTac on and it did last until day 10 and started lifting. I use the over patch now which kind of negates the size a bit. Other than that very happy. I find it to be very accurate for me. Love the half hour warmup and how flat the device is.

    Great review! I’m on day #7 of my first sensor! I also have found so far the adhesive is holding pretty well. I’m really glad you mentioned wearing on your abdomen because I also have little fat on arms and loved wearing G6 on abdomen. The graph seems a little jumpy but the readings have been pretty solid!

      @@diabe_tech If you really want to accuracy (assuming the comparing handheld device is accurate) you need to take blood in the same spot, so in that case also on the arm or whereever else your gecom or libre is. For various reasons you might absolutely show differing gluc levels in different parts of the body.

    One advance over G6 is the G7 now warns that it sometimes malfunctions and gives outlier readings. That’s fine, as long as it persists in beeping if there are lows…right or wrong. I’d rather be woken up by mistake than sleep thru a bad hypo. Just slept thru one, and barely woke up with the message that it was probably malfunctioning. I don’t think it was! Not sure yet how persistent it is with the “urgent low”warning. There’s a gap in history.

    They're also could be another debate on blood glucose monitors on how accurate they are. This 20% is just a reference to keep us in the range, but there's no information that I can tell that blood glucose monitors (poking your finger) is any more accurate or less accurate than the Dexcom so who's to say which one is more accurate. Like you said it's just to keep you in the range.

    • @pM-sh4ep
      @pM-sh4ep ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glucose changes in the blood are detected before subcutaneous fluid. Therefore, a finger stick reading is giving more timely info (by about 5 minutes). So if I’m going low, I do finger sticks because I want the most immediate reading to make treatment decisions

    Omg all the up down spikes drive me crazy! I'm on g6 for the past 5 months & my a1c went down from 9.1 to 7.4, which was a HUGE win. After what you said about your meter showing lower glucoses than the cgm, I'm thinking I might also have more lows & I'm more in target than the graph shows. Just wish the cgm would recognize lows better & not keep giving insulin, lowering glucose even more

    Really bad user experience with the G7. 1st sensor worked perfectly. Stayed on, no issues there. BUT a very big BUT the next 6 sensors kept disconnecting. I got a few hours with5 of the 6 and 4 days with the 6th. I just ended up frustrated. Went back to my Enlite. When the do a lot more work on the technology it will be brilliant. I found readings accurate on the 1st sensor and love it doesn’t need calibration. Lots of great features but of zero value as the sensor keeps disconnecting. Spoke to my pharmacist and he said the majority of users have the same issue.

    I've transitioned to Medicare. Yeah, I'm rather four-word-lettered is the best way to put it. I'm on my fourth sensor right now. I had a trial. Then I had six weeks of getting the prescription figured out (I WAS on Medtronic, but my blood test isn't bad enough to get the OK'ed on Medicare, and after six weeks of getting prescribed (the sensors went through, but I was required to have the receiver, and that took four separate prescriptions to go through, with me riding herd on both the pharmacy and the endo's office)) The first one lasted the full time. The second one fell off. I destroyed the overlay patch trying to get it on, and my taping wasn't good enough that I did to try and make sure that it was good. Doesn't help that it's a weird place to do stuff to yourself, and since I wasn't sure what was going on about not putting on the abdomen (yeah, now I know), that would help me immediately. I put the third one on, and three days later, I had a sensor failure. They're shipping me a new one, but I've got my last one on now until it comes in, and with Medicare, you bet I can't get the sensor any faster than when they allow you. I've got it because I can go hypo pretty fast, and when it makes my brain nonfunctional, it's a problem for EVERYBODY. So I'm happy with the results now. I find it harder to deal with lows on the G7. The Medtronic seemed to be fine with me eating some carbs and showing up on my CGM. The G7 didn't seem to want to act as fast. I'd still be showing a low when I thought I should be going up. I'm just taking extra carbs now. That's working, but still weird. And then there's the time when I treated a low with 15g of carbs for a low, and ended up waking up to a high of 220. A finger stick said 200, so it wasn't off that much, but wow. Get yourself out of a low, and then my liver decides to dump sugar? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Hey there. Just found you. Great content and I subscribed to keep in touch. We manage T1D with our daughter. We are currently using Omnipod Dash and G6. We are initiating a looping system in a couple months (with a Clinic's help here in Canada) and we are looking to also move to the G7 - which will work, as it does for you. I am curious if you can comment on the common issue I have heard regarding regular signal loss issues with the G7 and how this impacts a loop system. Also, have you considered that the spotty graph issue you mentioned is caused by these moments of lost signal, and maybe it works better on your abdomin because it has a less obscured connection to your phone? In any event, what I am mainly asking here regardless, is how you have found G7 working in tandem with a loop system. Thanks - cheers

    Hi Justin, do you know of any way i can stream my blood sugars from my Dexcome G7 to my PC and see them as a widget onto my taskbar or quick launch bar? Anyone have any suggestions? I work from my PC all day and it would be a nice little conceive.

    I was SHOCKED at how painless it is, my g6 hit muscles and nerves every time I tried my arms, first time trying it today, g7 insertion felt distracted by the applicator and like he said only pressure really

    Since you showed wearing a G6 and a G7 at the same time, you should have compared them. Which is more accurate? You did not talk about the scatteredness of the G7 trend line, while the G6 trend line is smooth. And you did not talk about the included extra adhesive patch that comes with the G7. And although you are not on Medicare, but you did talk to the CEO, why can't they dispense more than 3 at a time?

    I'm not on the G7 yet because I'm on the Omnipod/Dexcom closed loop and am waiting for the G7 to be able to do the same.
    I did want to add that in the last year or so most of my Dexcom G6 sensors have not lasted the entire time they're supposed to. I follow all the instructions from Dexcom and my doctor in terms of placement and still have issues. I feel very strongly it's a quality control issue at this point.
    However like you mentioned the customer service department are pretty on top of it and will send out replacements. I literally had to have three sent to me as I had three fail back to back in a four week period.

      To my knowledge, yes you can use both at the same time - G7 was designed to connect with up to three devices at a time.I would call Dexcom tech support (they're great) to get a replacement. Yea, if you delete the app it will want you to restart a sensor. Here's their number: 866-352-3678

    What about the follow app. Is it just like the G6 follow app. I have to take care of my mom , she is BRITAL type 1 and have to keep close eye on her sugar ALWAYS! WE USE G6 now and we use the follow app all the time! It alerts me her highs and lows and if the nurses at facility don't check her on time then I just call them to let them know. This follow app is my life line to my mom! Mom is child minded like and I'm her legal guardianship conservative. I want the best device! If I need to stay with G6 than I will but yes 2 hour warm up does suck but oh well. I keep up with her on follow and her clarity. Please let me know. Thank you.

    Just started using Dexcom G7 last week after using glucometers for over 20 years. G7 readings never match glucometer readings. Seems to me the G7 readings are 30 to 45 minutes behind my actual readings. G7 doesn't give real-time blood sugar readings.

    • @diabe_tech

      That is correct. All cgms read interstitial fluid, not blood, so there is about a 20 minute delay. The info still helps for understanding trends - significant rises and drops, how good effects us, and where we’re headed.

      It is 1000% better than the evil finger poker jabber thingy. 😂 Now THOSE HURT!. I've been poking my fingers for 22 years. My doctor started me on the g7 three weeks ago. I don't even feel it. It isn't a needle that sticks into your arm. It's a catheter inserted by a needle that disposes with the applicator. Which I did not feel the needle nor do I feel the catheter. You just have to make sure you put it in the fattiest part of the back of your arm, not near a bone or muscle.

    I vehemently disagree that turning off the LOW ALERT on the Dexcom G7 should be possible. It should NOT be possible. You can always power off your receiver, if you don't want to hear it. I think the FDA did the right thing.
    Also, there are two different alarm alert modes for HIGH ALERTs and LOW ALERTs. These are vibrate receiver and play a sound. You can adjust the these modes independently. You can set it up so that you either feel a vibration or hear a sound with the receiver, or BOTH, and differently depending on whether it's a HIGH ALERT or a LOW ALERT.
    I have only worn the G7 on the backs of my arms. I have not yet attached it anywhere else, and don't plan to.
    After getting to my third sensor, I finally figured out that I don't have to duct tape a piece of saran wrap over the transmitter before taking a shower. It gets wet in the shower, but doesn't pull out. :) A hot shower makes my reading increase quickly.

      Sometimes. For the most part, no, the G7 stays connected well, BUT I've had a few sensors that had bad connection issues - mostly on days 8-10. I'm definitely having more sensor disconnections than G6, but it hasn't made me want to switch back to G6

    I have t wait for g7 until it's approved for my T:slim. Besides, Medicaid decides what they will pay for. If I got the g7 on my own I'd have to pay cash for it, where my g6 and pump are no cost to me. Question on the applicator - I travel a lot and the G6 packaging sucks to pack - if you pull the G7 applicator out of the box, with the lid on, is it still possible to press / deploy the applicator and trigger the insert? I guess what I'm asking - if you pull it out of the box and throw it in your bag - should we be concerned about triggering the button?

    • @diabe_tech
      @diabe_tech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it should be fine. In fact I already traveled like that with a few. The applicator has a safety mechanism - it needs to be pushed down before the button works. Since the cap covers it when closed, there’s no need to worry.
