  • This customer loves his GMC Canyon with diesel engine 4x4 and Denali package. He wanted to have a cargo area that had storage to keep the area tidy as well as some comforts. We were able to wire up a Goal Zero battery which powered the water pump, roof fan vent, and water pump!

    ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born to be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom wood work and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! Please email me solidwoodworx@gmail.com for more information.

    I am the owner and have been getting a lot of use out of the truck these past couple months. I really love and Brian did an amazing job on it. A couple replies to the comments. The sink just drains out the bed behind the rear wheel. I am finding I don’t use the sink very much at all. Mainly just to fill water bottles. If I need to use it where I can’t just let it drain onto the ground I can put a bucket or basin underneath the vehicle to catch it. Totally worked out with all the sizing of things. This is a mid height Leer top on it and when I am sitting on the bed with a 3 inch camping pad on it my head use clears the ceiling and it is quite comfy. I have sat out some rainstorms sitting inside with the he tailgate close but the window open and it is very cozy. The goal zero and wiring works like a charm. My Goal Zero is always charged when I need it and the electrics hardly draw from it. I am mostly doing weekend or two to three day trips so it is plenty. No need for solar at all. While the MaxAir fan on the roof is cool I don’t use it much so would probably skip it if I did this again. Only other thing is that I can’t access the drawer from inside the truck so just need to keep that in mind. I live in Southern California so it hasn’t really been a problem. Sitting on the tailgate and prepping dinner on the drawer is very comfortable and it is a great work surface. The work Brian did was fantastic and his build ideas based on my wishlist turned out great. Very happy with it!

      A mid height top. Can you pull into a standard garage with that? Thanks.

    • @lornecheese
      @lornecheese 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it easily clears my standard garage door. The truck is a bit long but it will also fit in lengthwise too. Before I bought the truck I did a test drive and brought it home to make sure it would fit.

    Very sweet! I drive a colorado with the same bed length and do a not so nice somewhat version of this. One thing after using mine for a few years that id like to change is the windows on the topper from the slider like that to the wing windows that lift and also slide, then you can access your stuff from outside fairly easy and also totally open up the window on a nice day and have it totally opened up by the sink and table area. I don't have the sink, but i carry a 5 gallon jerry can with the faucet. This one definitely hits real close to home and I've said it before, man if you weren't 2000 miles away id definitely hit ya up to finish mine out!

      Do you have the five foot bed or the six foot bed? I want to set up my bed for camping but I only got a 5 ft

    • @gt_outdoorexcursions
      @gt_outdoorexcursions 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samuelyates4922 Im running a 6ft bed, I figured Id never need a crew cab 4 door, since id never be camping with a "crew" anyway. Extended cab is perfectly fine for my needs with it's behind the seat storage on the mini seats, it at least lets me have the 6ft bed.

    nice and minimalistic. well done. I would have asked for the secondary platform to be on hinges, in sections. Remove the bedding, flip the "Nightstand" platform over, done. Same with the lower portion. It would give them a place to be stored, and ease of use. I sold my Canyon, but had I kept it, I would have considered such a design.

    • @ES-mq9ox
      @ES-mq9ox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Or you just slide it in and store it on the floor. Put a couple of low profile finger holds or metal loops on the longer section and then it can be raised up while you are positioned on the upper section. It seems like it would be pretty easy to do, after a little trial and error practicing. Small section is a piece of cake.

    I hope that Toyota behind the truck is another customer. I turned my Toyota Matrix into a camper car for a road trip a few years ago with minimal modifications, it would be cool to see what someone would do to a compact car with actual knowledge and more solid fixtures. Anyhow, cool build as always, I really dig the complex work you do while it aesthetically looking so simple.
