In the left column you should see a list of things such as dashboard, profile, preferences. Click 'Profile'. There you should see some more buttons directly under the date you joined. Click 'Edit My Profile'. Then at look at the top. Click the second button 'Edit Default Pseud and Icon'. Look for the section that says Icon then click 'Choose File' to choose a picture for your profile picture.

By cover you mean like art for your stories? Some fanfics will have art inserted at the beginning, middle or end of their story or just put their cover art as one chapter and start the story on the second chapter. It's really up to you. Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant.

There isn't a function for that. You can save my clicking Bookmark, Subscribe (to get updates of the story emailed to you) or Mark for later. All of these will save the story but you'll have to rely on your own memory or check your browser history for the exact chapter. When you Bookmark the story you can make notes and add your own tags so you can even put the last chapter there and keep updating it

TheBelindaVideos Other than looking through your browser history or clicking Entire Work and scrolling through til something looks familiar I don't have a golden solution for that one. Something I tend to do is write notes for all my bookmarks including chapters that I like and where I stopped reading. You can edit bookmark notes too so updating is as simple as anything. Oh but actually something else you could try is actually bookmarking the page as in your chrome bookmarks or whatever browser you're using. That saves the actual chapters and I used to do that all the time. You can make specific folders for your browser bookmarks so everyone that uses the computer doesn’t see them right away
Click subscribe then check the Social section of your email to see alerts. I use Gmail so sorry if your email doesn't have a social section. All ao3 alerts will be emailed though
How do you make Italic, Bold, Strikethrough, and underlined texts when you write a fanfic? I've been having a hard time with that and I'm on mobile TwT
ao3 uses html formatting for these things. when editing, there should be a question mark above the writing space where they demonstrate some html codes they accept, but you could also google different html codes and apply them to your writing! it's a learning curve but it gets easier once you learn it. good luck (:

No worries, so after clicking a story you'll see a few buttons at the top, one says Bookmark. The Bookmark button will bring you to the bottom of the page where you can add your own summary and tags to the story. Dont forget to click the Create at the bottom to finish. Personally I reread a lot of stories so it's just easier to add my own summaries to find them again in My Bookmark page, located in the drop down menu when you click your username. If you want Updates on an incomplete story click the Subscribe button also located at the top of the story. Hope this helps! I've answered many other problems in the comments so try giving those a look too.
I don't think you can do it without an account. When you click the fic you want to read the Bookmark button will be on top click it then it'll ask you again to create a bookmark. Once it's done check by clicking your username you'll see the section that says Bookmarks

So take care to read each section on the Post New page carefully. The one you are looking for is the 3rd section called Associations. It's has parts like "Post to Collections" then "Gift this work to" then UNDER that there are 4 check boxes. Click the one that says "This work has multiple chapters" . You can choose to change the question mark to the number of chapter you envision having and you can change that number again whenever. Hope this helps!

For this question it's a bit too general so I'll direct you to the Ao3 faq where they have a detailed section called "Skin and Archive Interface". If you still have questions after browsing it I have no problems helping out. If youre just looking for a quick change then click your user name at the top of ao3 should say "Hi,[username]", on the drop down menu the last option is "My Preferences" click it. Scroll down, third gray box has Skins. Click either Public Site skins or the button under it that should say Default. They both give you Skin options. See which you like
To change the revealed/unrevealed or anonymous/non-anonymous settings for all works at once, go to the 'Settings' page for your collection, and untick the relevant boxes. To change these settings for a single work or only certain works in the collection, go to the 'Manage Items' page and untick the boxes for the relevant works there.
Hover over your user name to the top right corner. Click My Works. Click Edit for the story you want to add a chapter to. On the new edit page to the top right you'll see Add Chapter. Click it and proceed like you did to post your existing work. Hope that helps!

I prefer clicking Entire Work to avoid having to keep clicking it though. If you don't see those buttons it means the story only has one chapter.

Hey! So I don't recall getting this message, is this when you use the site on your phone or on desktop? Are you logged in or just viewing as guest? When the session expires is it bringing you to the home page instead of the story you were reading?

Well it's not a social media platform so you can't block people as far as I know. You can subscribe to story and authors tho.
How can i follow a story.
Smi Rd Click on the story. On the top where you see buttons that say Bookmark, Mark for later etc. Click Subscribe. Youll then get emails on the story updates

how do u bookmark?
First make sure you have an account and you're logged in. If you want to just save the story then just click the "Bookmark" button at the top of the page of the fic you're reading. The button will drag you to the bottom of the page where you can put your own personal summary and tags for the story. Then click the "Create" button on the bottom of the page and done. When you hover over your user name at the top it'll give you the option to see your bookmarks.
If the story is incomplete and you also want email notifications for any updates click the Subscribe button at the top.
How can you read a story on mobile? Please respond asap
Vexelle Use your mobile browser, the same one you use to look on sites on mobile. Chrome, Internet Explorer etc. You can also download fics just the same on mobile and read them from your download storage even when there's no wifi.
