What sucks is when the "normal things" are even off the menu. Like not being able to talk about your significant other when you're gay, or even just the fact that you're starting dating become contentious discussion

Very much so. It's not ok for it to be that way. I know a lot of people are deciding to skip the contentious gatherings this year, and that's absolutely something that I support to protect people's peace. And also we all recognize that it is not the route everyone wants to (or can) take. 🩷🩷

Thank you for your advice! I'm a closeted lesbian and I'm going to spend Thanksgiving at my conservative grandparents house this year, so this came at a good time for me. I'm already trying to plan some other things I can talk to my grandfather about so I don't have to listen to him rant about politics the whole time, lol.

I hope there is a way for it to be an enjoyable time, at least somewhat 💜💜

"'No' is a full sentence." -- Thank you, I love this as someone who struggles with boundaries.
When it comes to politics, at Thanksgiving I'm always the person cutting in with awkward segways to try and avoid political talk at all costs😂. Like someone will literally say, "ugh I hate Biden because--"
And then I'll cut in with, "BOY DID YOU SEE THAT SUN YESTERDAY? SURE WAS ROUND." 😅😂

Haha that's a masterful segue! It would take some very intentional pettiness to continue a conversation on the same topic with that type of redirect 😂

We are definitely exploring all options too. And also doing the work to cover ourselves legally here.
