The opposite also holds true. These 2 are strong and with adequate skills, they could massacre alot of other servants and each other.

You're not killing a free 5* with a whole kit that makes him unkillable by being a story-banner-only with a non-damaging NP that half your best buffs are tied to.

Most 3* and lower rarity have straightforward mechanics. Bedivere, Caesar, Cú, Inshun, Asterios and David are the only ones I can think of that have more versatility and usage

@@tomsin1417 tbh orion is more about critting very hard and fast, or else he get nuked by np, since he doesnt have any survivability. While QSH is more stall without the same damage, but lived a lot longer.
Using Hozoin is like a drug to me. The guy has an amazing kit and is actually quite a badass in lore! My only gripe is that we don't get that shirtless hozoin from his 4th ascension as an actual battle sprite :(

Houzouin is far, far, FAR away from being as consistent as Cu. But he's still very cool and fun to play.

Yeah, I find non gold lancers more worthy to grail rather than the gold one

Absolutely love his kit. That NP is so much fun and when the stars (hehe) align and he has a perfect crit brave chain with NP buffs active, God is it an adrenaline rush.
He is one of my favorite 3* Lancers in the game. I even grailed him in JP because he's a monster solo unit
Hozoin carried me through every Singularity, EoR and Lostbelt chapter. Even against Sabers I kept him in the team, that's how stupidly good he is
This is very inaccurate. Inshun isn't bad, but he isn't amazing either. Yes if you buff stack you can get massive crits. But only after doing 2+ NPs that do 0 damage. Other units can NP twice quickly with the same kinda of support Inshun needs, and have already done the damage he can do with crits.
Also having used Inshun a crap load on both budget and none budget teams. he is extremely inconsistent. Sometimes you NP and you just don't get his cards or crits on the right cards in order to loop. The only way to make him even half way consistent is to use a SUPER whale setup. At which point their isn't much reason to use him.
I am always seeing people say Inshun is amazing. But never do anything that amazing with him. Meanwhile all the players that actually know how to do 1-3 star stuff almost never use him for anything. because he just isn't that great. Yes you can use Waver / Skadi to buff stack him and crit super hard. But you can do that with lots of units. And more consistently. Saying he is a Cu killer is laughable.
The one truly good thing about Inshun is he can stuck pile damage. For example if there's trash mobs before a major boss you can start ramping up and stall a bit on the trash. Where another Lancer might be able to double NP easily but NPing the trash is worthless and doesn't lead to more damage to the boss later.
He is a budget Lancer that's awful on budget teams. And decent on whale teams.
I don't think it's inaccurate. Most lancers can't NP as quickly as Inshun can unless you have supports there to act as batteries. His crits hit for as much as a ST NP in some instances as well so if you are lucky enough to say get a triple quick brave chain that crits you can deal incredible damage with just Inshun's buffs alone.
I agree he is inconsistent, but I think there is a difference between efficiency and practicality. I can see why he wouldn't be used much in challenges where people are trying to be highly efficient, because every turn matters and Inshun is too random. But in terms of practicality he can hold up well in even the toughest fights and get your through them reliably. And these spotlights are judging practicality, not efficiency
For the most part, even though he is heavily dependent on crits, if you have an additional star generator and give him a star absorb CE you shouldn't have as much of an issue with consistency. And keep in mind he's a 3*, outside of Cu, I'd say he easily is beats every other 3* lancer and most 4* lancers so that's saying a lot already.
@@GAReviews I use him a lot with and without OP supports. And without Waver/Skadi he doesn't NP that easily. And then after NPing you don't always get his cards let alone crit. And aftre a single NP his crits do not match a good ST NP.
After 2 NPs they do. But after all that time and prep just about anyone could do that damage. The proof is in the pudding. There really aren't any practical examples of him doing anything other Lancers can't especially on budget teams. But I can link you countless CQ videos of Cu and other Lancers putting him to shame.
he is a very fun unit. But he isn't practical at all. And is absolutely bad on budget teams. There is a reason all the good 1-3 star Players don't use him often. But still use Cu for almost every Archer boss. Also Herc and Cu are light years ahead of him solo wise. I can link countless solos Cu can do that Inshun doesn't even get close to doing.
Random examples. LB4 Tree, Gozen CQ from Setsubun and Godjuna. On the flip side their isn't a single boss Inshun has soloed Cu can't
Honako Green I personally think from their kits that Proto Cú seems to be the better Crit lancer with having a quick np and the possibility to quick brave chain of it, it might’ve been better if he had Inshun’s deck but having both a Crit buff and a star Absorb is certainly putting him above Inshun in my mind.

I love Hozoin (have since Vagabond) and will be maxing his skills out as soon as I can (and maybe grailing him if I have a surplus)... but he is not a Cu Killer.
Honestly, I'm going to Second Archive him.
Mostly because I already have Taiga at 10/10/10 (and 9/9/9 on Alt) and she by herself is already crazy strong anyway.
And she's Taiga.

Her buffs are crazy strong, but their CD is also crazy long, ans some of those are stage specific.
She is pretty much burst damage servant. Her damage really is good for a 3*, but her drawbacks prevent her from being a top tier.
My current favorite Lancer is Extra Vlad personally, but I will roll for him too.
His crits and damage is cool and all but I'm still sticking with my max grailed Cú.
Hes definitely fun to use and all, but id say another issue of his, aside from the RNG soberoni addressed, is that you still lose the value of ST NP damage, and the only way you really become able to match that value with his kit is if you have two of the NP crit buffs up at the same time.
I literally have almost every good Lancer in the game, but I don't mind raising this guy to 10/10/10 simply because of how interesting and cohesive his play style is to me. The Dark Horse servants are usually my favorite lol

And here we have a Man that can stand Shoulder-to-Shoulder with the Gods. I first saw him on the wiki and after reading his skills, NP, and a video of him fighting Archer of Shinjuku I knew I needed him at NP5.
Along with Tomoe my most wanted Servant in shimosa ... in jp he did some major bossfights for me and I like playing crit based Servants.

And for CEs, a good free to mlb option would be: Heading to Trifas from Apocrypha event, it buffs crit, np gen, and passive star gain.

If I want a lancer to burst down a single target I normally choose Kiyo Lancer because
A ) She is my waifu
B ) She is np 5 and level 100, which makes her my strongest single target servant.
I have an np 1 Tamamo lancer and I still would use Kiyo over her against male archers. However, it is hard to say no to someone offers as much as Houzouin Inshun does. He is definitely not going to replace Kiyo Lancer, but maybe I will find him useful someday.

Pulled this guy randomly on shimosa banner. I was sad at first because he was the only thing I got, but know that I know just how crazy he is I'm gonna start using him!
I think "Hot Spring Under The Moon" is an honorable mention. It increases your Critical strenght by 20% and Gain 3 Crit stars every turn (4 if MLB).

I found out having only just Hozoin and Osakabehime going in together work well since they're both dependant on the buffs in their NP likelihood of Hozoin getting cards is far more easier, and you're almost always either charging their NP or dealing damage with Crits, Neet also helps in the sustain thx to the Max HP up and defense up and the NP charge is so helpful in my opinion and it's mega fun seeing playing with them together.
I wasn't planning to roll for anyone during Shimosa because I'm saving up for Ereshkigal.
But... not gonna lie, your videos made me want to get Tomoe and Houzouin a lot! I already liked them from their design and overall aesthetic, now I want them for how fun they seem to be! (also, Tomoe would been my first Oni Servant if I got her) ^_^
First off, hes a great unit for sure with some of the highest ceiling of power for 3 stars but personally I think he's way too reliant on supports to be S rank, the amount of time you have to take to set him up could be spent by equivalent units just actually doing damage with nps and some times you just get bad card luck. And people talk about solos, but cu can solo anything he can and many things that he has no chance at.
Yeah, but Cu's dmg sucks. Not to mention that Gay Balls is a bitch to fire off if you're not using a NP gain CE. Cu's still amazing but when it comes down to solo dmg potential, Ikkaku's got him beat.
@@6ANUR34DT81S Nobody cares about damage potential in a solo though. People care about surviving. That's like saying that Kintoki is better at solos than Cu Alter because he can do more damage. He's still going to die long before he has a chance to deal enough damage to kill any kind of challenging boss

For the fun fact, Inshun and Cu are polar opposites.
Inshun is meant for Crit DPS teams, if you get lucky, he can NP back-to-back on his NPQA chains if he crits on his two face cards on Archers/Zerkers and keep his buffs going and stacking. That said, that's also perhaps his biggest team problems, he needs at least two cards per turn (NP and/or face) to keep up and he needs crits. That said, his DPS if he can get going with his NP and crits skyrockets into high 4* tier. His inability to survive without support is a good way to prevent him from snapping every boss fight, a one time Evade is kind of disappointing but it still helps. His skills also need to be carefully pre-planned, don't use his Star Drop buff unless you can get at least two Quick Cards from him or you get a Brave Chain for just him. Use his third skill only if you need to stop an enemy from NP'ing on their upcoming turn when you're sure you can get his own NP back up first before that happens. That said, Hans and Star Gen CEs can make Inshun work on theoretically any non-Buster team, f2p or p2p, just keep in mind that he's super dependent on his crits and NP.
Cu is a survivalist, perhaps the premiere example of such alongside Herc with his Strengthening Quest update. Outside of his rarity gimping his Attack, Cu's only weakness are bulky Sabers/Rulers/Zerkers, anything with Buff Removal and/or Sure Hit/Invul Pierce. For that, just don't use him for anything that gets around his Protection from Arrows as that's his key skill. Cu can be a solo unit for anything that doesn't counter his skill kit and doesn't hold a class advantage over him at the same time. Cu can also be a good team semi-DPS (I say this because Cu's heavily defensive and his only offensive traits are his first skill upgraded and his NP) thanks to his NP ignoring Evade after being strengthened and lowering the target's Defense if it doesn't insta-kill, making it good for starting an NP chain against anyone with a one-hit Evade. Contrasting Inshun who's best in a crit team and card reliant, Cu's more balanced.
Also, since both of them have Sure Hit (Inshun on his first skill and Cu on his upgraded NP), their Evades are practically worthless against each other and Cu's only advantage is Guts (which is amazing on someone who has a 3-hit Evade on a 5-turn CD). Who is better is vastly determined based on what you're trying to accomplish. In team comps, Cu has 'better' synergy thanks to not relying on crits or NP spam as well as being able to survive longer in general without support but he will need help generating NP due to his 'meh' NP gain and single Art Card. Inshun will somewhat outclass Cu in DPS in battles where one's team is strictly focused on crits as that's Inshun's gimmick, NP crit looping as he has overall better Star Gen and NP gain compared to Cu. You're deciding between hardcore offense (Inshun) or balanced combat (Cu). 8/10, you'd normally want Cu as he's just that busted for a 3* Servant in the FP banner. On the rare occasions where you're up against an Archer or Zerker boss who lacks a way punish Evade spamming loopers, Inshun can pull off some pretty impressive stunts and shred their HP bars like paper once he gets going as he can always get his one-time Evade back up...if he survives.
In 2 years later my goodness inshun is so meta right now quick card got buff and hits really really F hard and inshun will join as the best boss killing role in 3 star because he has the best critical np boost

Found this a few months later lol. Houzouin is an interesting character as he is just about perfect as a main damage dealer for the old quick crit team. Where you had a main damage dealer, a burst turn damage with good one turn buffs, and a star generator. Only issue being that merlin and break bars make this team less relevant and houzouin shows up after all this occurs. Resulting in a newer meta of bosses that are built with similar high damage output in mind and for a longer fight than the team can often sustain....

Considering his crazy star gen rate, I often use him for support, paired with billy and leonidas.
I'll probably use him because his NP animation is really cool for some reason, at least for me. Glad to know that he is as good as Cu because i lack a high rarity lancer and had to rely on Cu all the time. Glad I can have another alternative of Lancers.

Houzoin is to reliant on card RNG to be better than Cu.
That can be mitigated some if you're keeping track of card cycles, then it's just about making sure he has stars. Cu will always be the better anchor and soloer, he's the king for good reason. At least Inshun has the huge numbers he can puke out going for him, something to make his playstyle fun and different, something Cu just can't do.
He isn't even better with RNG. Even with Double Skadi he has yet to actually kill a boss faster than Cu lol. And half the time he just doesn't even work.
@@HonakoGreen That is true. It's hard to beat Cu's consistency, with his brave chains and ST NP. Alot of Hozoin's buffs are situational and he needs alot more support (higher tier support too) to kill even nearly as fast.
If only his Np gain and star gen was a bit better I think people would use him a lot more

While I won’t get directly involved in the Cú vs Hozoin discussion in regards to combat viability, I will say that as a spectator and content creator, a Hozoin video-solo, setup, etc-is a lot more novel than Yet Another Cú Solo™️. Not that those don’t have their audience, but they’re dime a dozen, even outside the Honako sphere, that the novelty has long since worn off. With that awareness set, players can watch videos based on individual units and make judgments based on that. Cú certainly has efficiency down pat, but Hozoin has the perks of a unorthodox kit and being under-represented from a content standpoint, adding more of a fun factor for viewers and theorycrafters alike.
With that out of the way, I’m of the camp that thinks a “best budget Servants” starter guide is a great idea for new players coming in late. If you’re not worried about spoiling content, you can even take the opportunity to give brief summaries of upcoming low-rarity Servants of note, if it will save you the effort of full reviews later down the line.

I don't understand why some ppl hate G&A to give this S rank. For game play wise, all one needs to do is some DMG fou plus a quick CE plus borrowed Waver/Memelin and all of a sudden one got a killing machine lancer. This added much fun with play style rather than just NP burst burst. And this is a free 3 star! Just search on ytube to see how ppl grailed him to 90 or 100 and solo waves.

While at most times I would agree that having evades that lasts hits rather than turns is usually more effective, but if it’s just 1 I actually think that 1 turn is more effective at that time, especially since bosses who uses death since many of them have a partner that attacks before their Noble Phantasm so his 1 time evade will be lost and he’ll probably take more damage than his HP can withstand.

The only thing his np5 does for him differently is going from 30 to 50% on his attack buff, the same can be done by using s charisma skill.

You should definitely at least also review Okada Izo and Mori, since I'm sure lots of people plan to spend quartz on them (Okada no doubt) and they're both limited 3*s. Only quartz rollable so it'd be good to hear how good you think the investment would be.

funny thing, i wanted archer of inferno cause i need an archer (i also need a lancer but i didn't even know of this servant until today to be honest), but i also want to save quartz to get my pent and my mordred to np5 as soon as possible, so i have decided to do just one 10 roll...and i received both archer of inferno houzouin, i hope i haven't used up all my gacha luck

Easy answer, both.
I suggest leveling Raikou, Cu, and Liz first. Cu is the best at survival so he will always come in handy, Liz is a surprisingly good support for female servants and she works well with Raikou, Raikou herself has some incredible firepower. So a team of those 3 will be very potent. Afterwords you can go for Tamamo / Lalter if you want more damage or Lion King if you need a better farmer

I'm only raising raikou(spook on maid alter banner) for her buster buff and party buff cuz I lack Merlin she's 1/6/-.

I was going to toss both the lancer artoria in archive but somehow got 3 copies of lalter so now, naturally I'll have to raise her so she's 6/4/- .

And I'm almost out of gems let alone mats lol.
I don't have cú so I use hozuin as my second 3* lancer and combo him with anderson since his 1st skill increase crit damage
