Sorry for the late reply! I had previously already painted it blue (was dark wood originally). I think I would have had to pain it blue if I wanted the colours of the napkins to show nicely as I don't think they would be opaque enough otherwise.
Hey! Yes, I think it was two layers, the printed layer, and a white backing layer. I found that leaving both layers together did increase the risk of it wrinkling, but made the colours more vibrant, so I left them together. If the frame was white I may have just used one layer, but as it was navy blue I used both. Hope that makes sense!

Yes it does, thanks. I have found that when I hàve left a layer on by mistake the wrinkling is a problem.
