My mom purchased a used 2011 Tiguan S 4Motion. It's pretty well equipped for a base model. Bluetooth, heated mirrors, easy visibility (yes, I know, but some SUVs don't have it lol) She bought it with 26,000 miles on it. Gets pretty good mileage. 23 overall. Not bad, considering it's a lot of sitting in traffic. (Drinks Premium!) Weird things: ran out of coolant after 8,000 miles of use. Odd... and there was a recall on it, saying all of your lights could go out while driving. Another incident was her car said "Battery low" then died. She restarted it and everything was fine. Very nice car. Would recommend to anyone. More headroom in the rear than a CRV or RAV4. Also: buy one used! Way cheaper than new. The S Model would be around $26,000 brand new, got it for around $16,500.
VW are very reliable, i have a Tiguan and have been driving it for 4 years, it has 75K miles on it now, i only paid for oil changes and that's all. With VW and Audi you must respect oil changes /filters etc and u will get ur reliability, people just ignore the cars and wants them to keep functioning. VW are very reliable my Mom had a GTI for 12 years and it was amazing. when u drive a Tiguan you will understand just how sporty and comfortable it is
***** hey there i still own it,it has 140k on it now,no issue yet,i changed bushes,Transmission oil,Haldex oil,pads...only problem now is 1 blown transmission seal,fixed it also.
Thats great to hear! I heard a lot of complaints from customers regarding the Tiguan's reliability. I have really been contemplating on getting a 2015 Tiguan R-Line once I find one with decent miles and a good price. Also been considering a Subaru Forester XT which has more features, higher safety rating, and more hp/torque..but...it just doesn't look as cool as the Tiguan.
We do not bash the VQ, only made an observation of it's harshness at high revs. Bashing is too strong of a word, we rarely do that. We believe every car deserves a chance, we keep an open mind. Sure this car has some weakness, but what car doesn't?
I've got a 2012 Tiguan, and it comes with almost everything as standard. The TSI and the 4Motion is a great combination, but sometimes the DSG can ruin everything. But launch control is awesome with that all wheel drive.
While we do agree with your saying of "you get what you pay for" it would seem that most buyers in this class do not care for the premium interior and German driving dynamics. What's more important for them is a spacious interior, quiet and compliant ride, excellent value, and roomy cargo area. Expect to see VW head in that direction with the next generation of this vehicle.
We realize that it has nothing to do with the GTI, however, VW also built the vehicle because they had customers saying they needed an SUV because their GTI didn't have enough space. We wanted to point out that for those customers thinking this is the small SUV they are looking to replace their GTI with will be disappointed.
We'd probably say the Escape Titanium drives like a Focus ST on stilts more lol... This vehicle could drive like a GTI, if VW tuned the steering better and made the ride less floaty feeling.
Can't believe the row that engine is making! I thought it was a diesel. Sounds to me like the timing chain is about to let go, a known issue on early Tiguans.
You misinterpreted why we made that comparison. VW had buyers coming into showrooms saying their GTI doesn't have enough space, we wanted to point out to those buyers thinking this car will drive like it because it doesn't. We're sorry you feel that way, we actually don't make claims on which car is best, that will be different for every consumer. We simply offer buyers our take, it sounds like you just need to keep a more open mind.
Exactly, the car drives like a VW should. but its obviously not going to handle like a GTI because of the ground clearance, bigger size, available 4 motion AWD and other variables.
If you want more space than a GTI, then get at GLI. That's what I did. The GLI only gives up a little bit of performance for the extra space plus it's a more quiet car and the longer wheelbase gives it a better ride over bumpy roads. Squeaks and rattles are better in my 2013 GLI compared to my 2010 GTI. Although I thought the seating position and leather seats in my GTI were better. Regarding reliability, both cars have been as reliable as other cars I have had in the past including Hondas
I love this car and it would be my second choice in this class. I feel like the car is kind of pricy for what it gives you especially now that the new CRV and rav are out but this car still has more going for then it then an escape Hyundai Kia or the old rav WITH the V6. The car has nothing to do with the gti... It's a crv competitor that's like me saying a crv Doesent drive like an SI just because they both have K24's... It's a family oriented CUV more for quality and comfort then dragging.
Lmaoo , when you mad that U-turn , and that man working on the side of the road turns around and looks that the car, he thought you was about to crash,
Fuel economy isn't that impressive but this SUV is built solid and has that substantial feel. I rather a few less MPGs, better feel and safety vs. a tin can that's a bit more economical.
Thanks for uploading this video I was waiting for a review on this model. Now that its 2013 it might be cheaper to getting one as a used car now. Since the cost should be less. So I will look and see if I could buy one.
Replacing Fitty? Whaa?? Anyways I know what youre getting at, my grandma has a 2011 Fit Sport and doesnt like it and she nearly bought a Jetta SE 2.5 she regrets buying the Fit. Whats the top cars on your list so far?
Moby, the lease residuals on a 3 year 45k mile lease are 55% for Tiguan and 60% for CRV. The Tiguan is an older vehicle that will probably be redesigned soon. According to efficient market theory, the used car market should know just how unreliable you claim VWs are yet they only discount a 3 year old Tiguan that is a stale design with 45k 5% more than a CRV
I'm not blaming you, it's fine to have an opinion. I'm just surprised you haven't said a thing about the engine. To me (and even some owners), the 2.0T sounds like a diesel at low rpms and gets really raspy at high rpms. If I were to close my eyes at around 8:17 I would think it would be a Hyundai 4-banger, not good.
Add to my comment below in my experience with 3 Hondas we have owned, they all have cheap exhaust components (mufflers that rust prematurely), thin window glass that cracks and gets rock chips easily, and cheap batteries that always needed replacing quickly. I am not bashing Honda but I don't think they are some wholly grail either.
I would love to buy a used one,..but I'm afraid of the valvetrain gear problems (main gear that drives the camshafts wasn't heat treated/hardened, and would strip/skip). I remember a white Tiguan trade-in that you had reviewed a couple of years ago. It has developed an engine problem and could only be driven in "limp home" mode.
VW seats are fantastic for long trips. There is a caveat to that however. The purpose built american models (new Passat and Jetta) have horrible thigh support in the seats. The seats are completely different from those in the german built VW's.
I haven't been able to discern much of a difference in real world driving. On a longer mostly highway trip with no regard for saving gas (changes in speed with traffic, 80+ MPH), they both averaged 30-32.
I don't think he can just review anything. Clearly he works at a dealer ship and the cars he reviews for the most part are prob the used cars on the lot. But again I'm not him so don't know. Maybe he will clarify.
Hey that fusion next to fence has fender nets I bets it super fast! Lol tat crap on cars kills me. Here in Kansas the Latinos put them all over there vehicles.
This car is junk for the price, hard touch in the back? Come on. Also, for someone who keeps bashing the VQ, I'm surprised you don't find that the 2.0T engine sounds like garbage.
Most of Volkswagens cars are more expensive than the rest of the class because you really do get what you pay for. We all saw what happened when you bitch about the price with the ruined 2011 Jetta. If you want value go get a Hyundai or kia and get what you pay for
First off get a review model from Volkswagen and not some used car lot. Second, the rear seats adjust back and fourth and recline making it very roomy in the back for adults. Third how are you going to talk bad about the radio and you got your vehicle again from a used car lot and it is obvious that the previous owner put in his own stereo? The so called "pillars" are where the side curtain airbags are at. Last but not least don't do a review with a used car lot vehicle that's a 2010 but keep talking about a 2013 this and 2013 that. This is a shitty review.

all the little problems were fixed after 2012 facelift models. you will find them veyr reliable.
This comment didn’t age well

I absolutely love the sun roofs on this car
my dad almost bought one. he loved it and it drove so smoothly. It was out of his price range and he went for an Outback instead.
This 2010 model is rated at 18/24, the 2013 model has been re-rated to 20/26
I LOVE panoramic sunroofs!! They're so cool.

Excellent prediction
Love the Tiguan...this was a fair review, Thanks.
I'm actually on a waiting list for the 2014 R-Line for the Tiguan.
We have yet to drive one yet, it may handle better than the Escape for sure. Hopefully, we can drive one soon.
We realize that it has nothing to do with the GTI, however, VW also built the vehicle because they had customers saying they needed an SUV because their GTI didn't have enough space. Actually, that vehicle is high on the list as a replacement for the Fit :)
You misinterpreted why we made that comparison. Our mistake lol Thanks for catching that, sometimes you just have a long day and don't notice being logged into the wrong account :)
Looking to buy one great review man!!!
you forget important fetaure Autohold option
Very good review! I like this CUV. How is cargo flexibility? Do the rear seats fold?
The rear seats do fold but maximum cargo capacity is only about 56 cu ft with the seats folded.
Hows the fuel economy of both cars? Do they get roughly the same mileage?
Interesting sounding exhaust note
The review of the M3 is already up
You need to drive a CX-5. They drive awesome, you'd love it, even compared to the Escape.
We plan to review a Subaru BRZ soon :)
Why does vw sale a piece of 💩car? They been knowing about it's mechanical failures.
Exactly, the car drives like a VW should. but its obviously not going to handle like a GTI because of the ground clearance, bigger size, available 4 motion AWD and other variables.
Anyone know what would be the best option to have a backup camera installed? There’s so many on the market and I’m lost which one to go with.. TIA 😀
Great review! As always!
These cars can smoke any Honda Civics with out v tech . Surprisingly fast
If you want more space than a GTI, then get at GLI. That's what I did. Interior and exterior design does nothing for me, however they drive pretty nicely!
Vw are pretty reliable cars keep it well maintained and yiur good to go 08 jetta with 78k miles and r32 with 82k no problems with either.
I love this car and it would be my second choice in this class. I will drive my VW till the day it explodes. But I won't say it's 100% reliable for a second.
Fuel economy isn't that impressive but this SUV is built solid and has that substantial feel. I rather a few less MPGs, better feel and safety vs. a tin can that's a bit more economical.

yayyy!!!! i totally see you in the GLI i really want that car also
the first generation model uses the PQ46 platform of the B6 Generation Volkswagen Passat.

Nice Review Of 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan. 😁

Sofyan would you ever consider a 2013 Jetta GLI?
Really love Tiguan
Hopefully VW puts a TDI in this.
I WISH! They are pulling their entire TDI lineup =(
Lov your review
Add to my comment below in my experience with 3 Hondas we have owned, they all have cheap exhaust components (mufflers that rust prematurely), thin window glass that cracks and gets rock chips easily, and cheap batteries that always needed replacing quickly. pleaase do that mercury sable in the back at 45 second mark, id like to hear your thoughts on it please!
Sounds awesome.
Please do that dark color sable in the back in the begining!
I would love to buy a used one,..but I'm afraid of the valvetrain gear problems (main gear that drives the camshafts wasn't heat treated/hardened, and would strip/skip).
I remember a white Tiguan trade-in that you had reviewed a couple of years ago. It has developed an engine problem and could only be driven in "limp home" mode.
can you do a review on Genesis coupe and Scion FR-S
Omg you need to review that BMW m3 convertible if you can! That would be bad ass!
VW seats are fantastic for long trips. There is a caveat to that however. The purpose built american models (new Passat and Jetta) have horrible thigh support in the seats. The seats are completely different from those in the german built VW's.
Can you please do the pontiac g5 in the background
Ok wait ... AM I Trippin Or Is The Cars Speedin Up Fast Asl 😆🤦🏽♂️
I haven't been able to discern much of a difference in real world driving. On a longer mostly highway trip with no regard for saving gas (changes in speed with traffic, 80+ MPH), they both averaged 30-32.
the tiguan was designed for the world market, not necessarily N. America, where it's simply too premium in packaging and price.
Lol did u see that worker look at u when u floored the car after turning around, go back and look
my friend drives a ford focus and the wheel flew off while driving...
SlipknotMaggot0526 wasn’t the fords fault . Whoever tightened the lugnuts didn’t do a well enough job. Happened to my Jeep
Is there an aux cord?
Yes
Dean Ainsworth do you know if this is the 2010 VW Tiguan s ? figuring out the differences between the configurations.
To bad we cannot get a Tiguan with a tdi motor in the states, it's available elsewhere,
You forgot to mention the Auto Hold
Okay then. Did you buy a rav4 yet?
lol, i caught you sofyan, trying to upload this on your old channel
The Tiguan is due for a complete redesign. I like compact cars / SUVs, but the interior is too small for the price.
I don't think he can just review anything. Clearly he works at a dealer ship and the cars he reviews for the most part are prob the used cars on the lot. But again I'm not him so don't know. Maybe he will clarify.
In Australia we have the dsg
This car isn't the biggest and least expensive CUV you can buy. Cost too much for what it is.
I've heard the fuel economy of these aren't impressive. Probably another reason it doesn't sell well.
its a nice car
A mazda cx5 only has 155 hp with 150 foot pounds of torque
Sounds a little slow to me
Hey that fusion next to fence has fender nets I bets it super fast! Lol tat crap on cars kills me. Here in Kansas the Latinos put them all over there vehicles.
I think with the price of the base Passat being sub-$20k, I think that is TERRIFIC value compared to the Sonata and Optima.
This car is junk for the price, hard touch in the back? Come on. Also, for someone who keeps bashing the VQ, I'm surprised you don't find that the 2.0T engine sounds like garbage.
Volkswagen, My favorite car company right next to Ford and Chevrolet.
I rather have the Jetta Sportwagon, espically when you can get the diesel
He did...
Most of Volkswagens cars are more expensive than the rest of the class because you really do get what you pay for. We all saw what happened when you bitch about the price with the ruined 2011 Jetta. If you want value go get a Hyundai or kia and get what you pay for
An SUV shouldn't have a 4-cylinder engine IMHO
It's not an SUV, it's a cross-over.
He did what? Clarify please
Why don"t you fasten your seatbelt?
Where my crack sensors at
First off get a review model from Volkswagen and not some used car lot. Second, the rear seats adjust back and fourth and recline making it very roomy in the back for adults. lol, its all good
L
I hate plastic in cars 🤮
What an ugly engine sound bro ! what’s wrong ? Thanks for this vid.
Interior is boring and bland.. bleh. 2013 is a big step up.
i will take 13 rav4 over this any day of the week. vw can't make reliable cars.
Motor sounds like shit..
9:52 nice white venza!!! Review one please
5:59 wow sofyan was sooooo disappointed
