I may order the book (don't I suffer enough?) since I'll never have the funds to hire an architect of this caliber. Do you have any suggestions how someone with the taste, but not the money, can ever get something like this, or do you just have to be rich... sigh...
This is a houseboat!? Unbelievable. Beautifully designed with simple, clean lines and great use of space. The facade design alone tells me wow, this is awesome.
Took my breath away!!!!!! I'm saving up to get a floating home in the Seattle South Lk Union community. One day, when I'm ready to refurbish or re-imagine a home, I'm calling Craig Steely Architecure!
I’ve been on many houseboats over the years, nothing like this. I lived in MillValley and San Francisco and even there in the land of diversity and the unique, this is remarkable. Bravo.
Waking up with the ability to paddle every morning has always been a dream. I am grateful I had an opportunity to live it on a beach but wow. What a special setting for grounded, healthy living. I hope the architect is back in good health shortly. This is a fantastic project to share!
Once inside this amazing space it opens up to give you a moment of complete surprise..the circular entrances are stunning ..setting this houseboat apart structurally. It truly is beautiful..job so well done.❤
San Francisco, woda i piękny design!
My favorite! I have paddle-boarded by so many tome and wondered what the interior looked like. Now living in Montana after many many years in Tiburon! Great design!
This is incredible, I love the layers and the use of the space and light. Also, I love the owner’s style and use of color, and I kind of covet that beautiful dress.
Really awesome project... I love the different levels throughout the building demarcating different areas. And the lofted space on the lounge/dining area end of building and the view beyond that is viewable from any level is really cool. Hopefully the architect will be out of the POP cast and be right as rain soon - really great project :-)
Can't get enough of this! Looks like it was spcifically designed to be the best place in the world to smoke some weed 😅. Purpose built to be mind expanding!
You know what would be even cooler is to have unfinished wood slats on the inside instead of the painted slats. But otherwise hard to improve this space from what you have!! ❤❤❤
It's foggy/overcast there much of the year so the white paint keeps things bright/cheery for the homeowners. Similar to what people do with their interiors in northern states buried in snow and limited daylight for several months of the year.
I lived in Southwest Washington DC in an apartment on the waterfront. I was never as happy after I left and moved uptown. Too bad those of us commoners (i.e., insufficient funds to hire architects), yet possessing the taste to appreciate the results, are left only looking longingly at such unique, beautiful, well-considered dwellings. Well, I can at least afford the book...
Unlike the earlier iterations in the 1960s and 70s... these floating homes are all hooked up to the city sewer, as well as water and electrical. In other marinas with sailboats, waste is usually pumped out via a boat equipped with a 100+ gallon waste tank. The result is a very clean bay, with the 2nd largest eelgrass nursery in San Francisco Bay.
2:37 can someone tell me what this floor is made of? Which wood? I see it all the time in high end homes, and someone once said French Oak, but I can't find anything with that same tone and texture when I look for French Oak floors around here. Maybe they just don't sell it in Ohio? Wouldn't be surprised.
They didn't like the new Tuscan builds on the hillside. They decided on modern instead of a houseboat like the bohemian artists etc were living in. Ironic or hypocritical?
“We should move to Sausalito Living's easy on a houseboat Let the ocean rock us back and forth to sleep In the morning with the sunrise Look in the water see the blue sky As if heaven has been laid there at our feet So we remain between these waves Sheltered for all our years While bikers glide by highway shrines Where pilgrims disappear…” Conor Oberst
Not to be insulting, but i wonder how an architect can square this kind of storytelling about boheminan artists with primarily building architecture that, to most people, is a symbol of the complete takeover of those spaces by the ultra wealthy and artists losing access to the spaces they built? I'm sure this architect thinks about this quite a lot and I'd like to hear his thoughts, though I know it's beyond the scope of this piece.
There are no hurricanes in San Francisco Bay. The deep cold water upwelling off the California coast keeps water temps too low to allow for hurricanes. We usually get the tail-ends of tropical cyclones or storms.

Wishing full recovery and range of motion for the architect’s arm. Fantastic property!

Never seen anything like this and I LOVE IT!!!
I love the overall simplicity of this home! The minimalist design, the interiors, the view, perfect combination for a houseboat!
Thanks Local Project
We're glad you like it!

Love it when an architect thinks outside the square! Fabulous 👌
Absolutely beautiful, a true gem! 😍Lucky Hannah 🤩
Bravo Craig Steely Architecture !
I grew up in Marin! Looking at Mt Tam is incredible. What a beautiful houseboat!
Houseboats tend to look like shacks but this one is truly a home. A beautiful and modern one.
👍👍👍💖💖💖💎💎💎✨✨✨

Do you miss Tiburon?
Stunning concept and magnificent views

Beautiful design- love the lack of pretension in both home and architect!
Stunning. Simply gorgeous!
😍... really beautiful! I love the peaceful atmosphere 🤗💯
All of the area here are so interesting. There's a lot of amazing things to show off. 🥰🥰
Craig Steely is one of my FAVORITE architects. I really resonate with so many of his designs and projects. Amazing work!
Very talented!
Good interior design really compliments the architecture, the levels, the views. Well done.

Beautiful!
Gorgeous
Amazing space.
Nice Kawai piano there!!
Oh how I wish I had enough money to live in such an aesthetic place 😢
When I lived in Sausalito in the 80s, the houseboats were all dumpy. Amazing what’s happened since.
today i learned the thing missing from my life is a houseboat
the hydrophobic cement tech is relatively new. Wait 10 years and the first class actions 😂
❤
Can't get enough of this! Looks like it was spcifically designed to be the best place in the world to smoke some weed 😅. Purpose built to be mind expanding!
Wait, your not going to show us what’s inside the round orange volume?! Still, a beautiful and well thought out piece of architecture.
I'll never be a fan of houseboats probably, but this is planned in such a smart way.
not the local project coffee table book. ive never needed a book so badly

@@AB-ol5uz gotcha, good point! 👍🏻
such a chill SF guy lol
I love how Craig challenges norms.
I’m gonna need a video on the coat (?) she’s wearing 😍
Is Alan Watt's boat still there?

ceptic tanks?
Where is the engine room?
Amazing house. I wonder how is waste managed in these houses.

What hapend with waste drainage in those houses?
Would really like to have one

I believe it’s quarter sawn white oak.

Ol' bright eyes never had to pay Marin County taxes it seems. lmao
🥰
Wish I was a beatnik hippy with a two million dollars…

Why the need for such overreach in the title?
How does this structure hold up in a hurricane, film on such a day and maybe this is worth watching--otherwise it's a sale advertisement.
There are no hurricanes in San Francisco Bay. The deep cold water upwelling off the California coast keeps water temps too low to allow for hurricanes. We usually get the tail-ends of tropical cyclones or storms.
Beatniks, dropouts, hippies and multi-millionaires
that's not a boat
This title makes no sense. Second in a row, weird.
