Thank you for the great and in-depth review! Helped with the purchase of mine. I didn't think I would own a Japanese watch in my collection and even tried the Seiko 5 Orange dial but returned it, was underwhelmed. However this GMT version with the jubilee bracelet and hardlex covered bezel spoke to me, quality is higher than the normal Seiko 5 and lucky to get 25% off too, so added it to my collection, looks good beside the PRX and the Legend Diver. Will mod the bezel and glass when it gets scratched up, I get the hype now. Wish you all the best, cheers!
You are most welcome. Yes, these definitely are much higher quality than the regular Seiko 5s. Modding to a sapphire bezel and crystal would make this watch basically perfect!

Same, I was wavering on Seiko, and this got me excited about the brand again!
I was able to get the SSK001 (black dial) for 25% off as part of a July 4th sale, so I only paid $356. At full retail price, it's a solid bargain for an automatic GMT. At anything above 20% off it's a steal.
BTW, I'm a big Seiko fan and defender. Yes, their QC issues are annoying, and I wish they would put more effort into their bracelets (from Seiko 5 to Grand Seiko), but Seiko designs and creates some of the best dials in the industry, and actually continue to provide good value (especially when the inevitable discounts come). The Aliexpress watches are 80-90% homages and thus the makers don't have to invest in design work. I imagine their profit margins are super slim, whereas Seiko and traditional manufactures have to allow for margins for their authorized dealers (often 40-50% or more, which is why you see sales of up to 25-30%). Also, Seiko develops and sells NH movements that make the whole affordable microbrand sector possible.

You are right on all counts. I am also a big Seiko fan. Despite the fact I get irritated by some of their decisions, my collection remains over 50% Seiko.

usually the norm was people went for black or blue or grey but a different colour is always interesting and nice. I think the orange looks stunning and being a Seiko you can't possibly go wrong. This review was excellent and showed the watch up close with great shots.

This is my next watch and the second in my collection after a seiko sna411 flightmaster. My case has 4 display spots and Im taking my time building a Seiko collection. This will fill my "diver" watch spot. After that I want some form race chronograph (maybe the prospex panda) and a pretty dial dress watch like a presage.
Excellent. Take your time, this hobby is really addictive (but you probably already know that hahaha)! :)
You will also need a real diver, ISO 6425 certified.

Like orange, never on watches though. Like GMT function, will wait for this (price) to drop, or even see what other brands watches will comee out with this movement. Not bad, just not exactly my cup of tea.

I have seen tests where it isn't really that much stronger than mineral, that being said, I have yet to scratch a hardlex crystal (although I tend to baby watches)!
Great review. What's the point of having a GMT hand with lume if the bezel doesn't have any? lol. This is one of the biggest watch brands ever and they forget things like this.

It does not, one of the major complaints against this watch!
It's not a diver's. But it has 100m water resistance.
Enough of the complaints Jesus!it’s an in-house movement for 475$!it’s not a dive watch for christs sakes it’s a gmt!it does have 100m though.with Seiko history of water resistance and dive watches it’ll be fine to swim or snorkel with!

The cons are major imho. Non clicking bezel, lack of screw down crown, terrible clasp (maybe you swap this). If they address those three and maybe scale the size down to 40mm this is a no brainer for anyone.
Definitely room for improvement. The screw down crown in particular!
So you really think 474 is to much for a automatic GMT from a major brand ....really . Ever alternative you mentioned was a quartz movement watch it's not even the same not even close. Personally I think it's a fantastic deal for an automatic GMT. Hamilton cheapest auto GMT is close to 1700 dollars
Fair enough, if you look at it that way, it is the best deal available for a reliable mechanical GMT.
The bracelet quality is horrendously bad, an absolute joke. It is very lightweight, and the endlinks look like they are cheap cast material.
