My friend and I are trying to break into the wedding videography bizzzz and you are hands down my favorite person to learn from. Thank you so much for making incredible and informative content and for just being an all around dope person!
Awesome job Matt, although 5 years ago, I’m just seeing this, but just started doing weddings this year. I’m watching tons of your content and fully subbed in.
Excellent as always Matt! I always liked how thorough your tutorials are, even if they were somewhat lengthy, you covered everything. But this new format seems super efficient. I like it!
Great video Matt. I noticed that you shot this scene with two shooters. Can you give some insight to how you would shoot it with just one shooter? Good to know how you would place the Glidecam behind the bride and the monopod tight shot on the Groome on other side. Thanks!
Awesome the way you broke it down to how you direct the talent and how you give them their space, how you record with multiple angles and the MICing up as well as the shot on the lower right with the camera settings. Didn't know the wide shot would be at f/8 but it makes sense since it's on a gimbal and handheld at f/5.6 to get some of the blurred background. Excellent moment capture! Do you use ND filters since it's outside?
Hey Matt I've heard you say you prefer to shoot in 24fps when capturing audio (for obvious reasons), curious why you captured audio but had both cameras filming in 60fps
Dang! Great moment. In my experience, it's rare for a groom to react that way. Dunno if you did anything to help with that or if it was just organic, but it looked GREAT!
Thanks Andrew! This definitely wasn’t the total norm for weddings. Not every one of our grooms reacts like this. We didn’t prompt him to cry or anything haha. He actually cried at least 3other times on the wedding day. 😁
Oh ok. I figured you probably didn't prompt him, but I agree. I'm so used to NOT seeing that happen that coaching him seemed more logical, I guess. Anyway, touching moment and beautiful cinematography!
Awesome! Always thankful for the great work and wisdom you provide us all with. What settings did you use for the Tascam Dr-10l btw? Again thank you for what you do!
Pretty good Matt! Glad you came back with your videos! You just cover all the long videos, it is ok that you are making short ones! You are going to switch to the a7 III ?? Greetings from Uruguay
I thought I heard somewhere that usually would ask photographers to let you shoot the first look first, before the photographers stage or pose the couple separately? did I make that up ? maybe I did.... any thoughts on this topic?
How? How do you do it, how does one contain their empathy! I've always wondered if there has been a moment where the videographer or photographer has been caught up in the emotions of the bride and groom. Do you have one that you remember? Maybe something for a question video?
You mentioned in a previous video - filming at 24fps if audio is being used. You filmed this first look at 60fps for the slow motion effect. What if you ended up capturing some phenomenal audio moment in that reveal? How would you work it into your 24fps timeline if needed?
Hey! You can see how the audio turned out in the full wedding video (linked in the video description). Part of me does wish I had shot the first look at 24fps because of the audio, but in this case I was more interested in being able to make the shot slow motion if I needed to.
Thanks for making these videos and sharing your knowledge! Theoretically, would you still use MattFlat on an a7iii, and do you think when the a7s iii comes out it will make tacos?
Did you end up leaving the footage as 60 fps in a 24 fps timeline because the audio turned out well? I guess I'm a little confused how you planned to use the audio when shooting 60 fps.
Andrew Thayer I was wondering the same. The sync turned out well, doesn’t appear to be slowed down if it was. and why does your 60fps footage not look like home video garbage like mine? 😂
Hi matt, I noticed that you recorded the whole first look at 60 fps with sound, why?? is not a problem to have a 60 fps clip (without interpreing to 24) in your 24fps timeline??
Yo! I'm still giving away a Zhiyun Crane 2 to one of my email subscribers! You can signup to win it here: go.whoismatt.com/crane2giveaway/
Too bad I'm overseas. By the way, I really love your videos Matt. They are awesome.
Matt WhoisMatt Johnson Hey Matt just wondering, you shot this in 60fps does that not effect the audio of you have a 24p timeline?
The groom is already balling before he even sees her!!! That's sweet as hell
I love that your the one setting all this up and not the photographers! So refreshing. Keep killing it matt!
I’m not crying... you’re crying!! 😳😭😭 I came here for the knowledge. But ended up with the feels lol! 📸🎥🎥
lol same here
Haha yessss!!!
Shit same here
excellent back ground story.. I think you are the only who covers this topic with honesty.. Hats Off.
My friend and I are trying to break into the wedding videography bizzzz and you are hands down my favorite person to learn from. Thank you so much for making incredible and informative content and for just being an all around dope person!

Awesome! Would love to see what you do for bride and groom prep and other parts of the day where your directing shots
Thanks Jon! Going to cover more in the future :)
So this can actually be done by ONE person, just panning around and moving around as well. Gotcha!
He’s balling 😭❤️
YES! Matt and Wedding Film School are the pinnacle for behind the scenes
Awesome job Matt, although 5 years ago, I’m just seeing this, but just started doing weddings this year. I’m watching tons of your content and fully subbed in.
I love your videos Matt!! Greetings from Colombia!
Jesus. I forgot that I came here because of some tips- but I’m crying lmaoooo
Love this video. I think a lot of photographers and videographers don't know how to make first looks... or set those up... so good topic!
Great job Matt. Love how you conduct yourself both for us and with couples.
Thanks Matt these come in handy so much in new to shooting weddings and this is really helping out so thank you
Awesome idea to break it up into smaller videos! Looking forward to the series.
Excellent as always Matt! I always liked how thorough your tutorials are, even if they were somewhat lengthy, you covered everything. But this new format seems super efficient. I like it!
Thanks James! Don’t worry, the longer ones aren’t going anywhere.😜
Thank goodness! I can sleep easy tonight haha
Great video Matt. I noticed that you shot this scene with two shooters. Can you give some insight to how you would shoot it with just one shooter? Good to know how you would place the Glidecam behind the bride and the monopod tight shot on the Groome on other side. Thanks!
Thats pretty nice mr. Matt keep going like this pls
Awesome tutorial on how to film a first look! Thank you.
My wife and I will see you on Wednesday. YAY!
Yesss!! Gonna be a partyyyy!

Love it Matt! Would like to also so see how you make a wedding highlight video... :)

Yup, we both us ND filters usually. For this we didn’t need to because we were shooting at 60fps though.
def a fan to breaking up the BTS into small pieces
Awesome video! Be cool to see a video on how you direct the couple during the first look!
Fantastic as always, Matt. I always enjoy your videos. So simple, so useful.

Hey Matt I've heard you say you prefer to shoot in 24fps when capturing audio (for obvious reasons), curious why you captured audio but had both cameras filming in 60fps
Good stuff! Any tips on fixing glidecam sway?
Hey! It shouldn’t be swaying if you have it balanced properly.
Awesome idea to do the behind the scenes series! Really looking forward to seeing what you have in store
Dat boi is back again. Really love this format, Matt!

Who knew that beard size is an exponential power in the awesomeness equation of TH-cam tutorials.
😂 beard size is the secret to everything!
Awesome tutorial!!!
Dude that's awesome!
Thanks James!
Man that is soooo awesome!!

Pretty good Matt! Glad you came back with your videos!
You just cover all the long videos, it is ok that you are making short ones!
You are going to switch to the a7 III ??
Greetings from Uruguay
Thanks Flavio! No plans to switch to the a7iii yet. Waiting on the a7siii.
I want to be like you when I grow up!

Matt WhoisMatt Johnson
Awesome A thanks for taking the time to write. I noticed hiding some of of the clips behind B-roll made it great too!!
This is awesome and touching. Matt, question, is the "Tascam DR-10L Digital Audio Recorder with Lavalier Microphone" is as good as the Zoom recorder?
I like it much better. The zoom h4n works well for certain audio recording though.
Bro, you deserve so much more views and subs!
Why do you shoot on F8? Is it because you can't focus on the glidecam with your sony and lens?
So cool
Hi Matt. Do you still use Cine 4 as your favored PP on your sony? Dynamic Range looks amazing.
awesome content!
Thanks for making these videos and sharing your knowledge! Theoretically, would you still use MattFlat on an a7iii, and do you think when the a7s iii comes out it will make tacos?
Amazing work!! How do you get around the 30 minute recording limit on the a7sii? I'm looking into buying the same camera.
Matt's face when he knew he had wedding film GOLD hahaha
THIS IS AWESOME!
😍😍😍😍😍 now im crying too😭😭😭
😂😂😂👍
Awsome!!
Good work
hello matt, i saw the settings at time stamp 5:01, at 60fps...were there no audio vido sync issue?
You're my hero!
You’re my hero!!!
Awesome! Are you using the A73 or the 7s2?
Ha should of kept watching it before i wrote anything!! Lol are you upgrading to the 7r3 or waiting till the 7s3?
Haha! I'm currently waiting on the a7siii.
My future husband better react like this 😂
😂😂

It’s not a huge issue. It won’t look as smooth as 24fps but that isn’t a big deal.
Love the DIY Spongebob time passing voice.
Your look at 4:25 lol Good Stuff Bro.
Watching.
MATT. I'm curious as to why you lavaliered (is that even how you spell it lol) him up like that?
So I could hear him and the bride speaking?
Do you use AF?
most my grooms only tend to pull a small smerk when they see their brides... lol
sooooooo relaxed over here in Australia !!
