Fans always share food with me and the balloons and chants keep if very US collage football like as a comparison. I was hoping he would stay in Japan but clearly he cant make as much money playing.

I believe it’s because here in America, we’ve become so obsessed with work and money, it takes up almost all our time and energy.
With social media and technology and the endless amounts of online entertainment, it’s so much better to watch a tv show on Netflix or scroll through endless amounts of TH-cam shorts or tik toks
Our attention spans are low, especially for the younger generation. In traffic there are so many drivers who cut each other off just to save 2 seconds.

Great observation thats literally whats killing the game in the 1980s in Ireland lots of kids would play ''rounders'', big organised baseball
games and you would litterally watch the other players both good and bad waiting to pitch field or take your turn at bat....now kids as young as 8 or 9 all have smart phones, they're gaming, overeating or at least eating all the wrong stuff.
We have not improved and l've traveled widely Europe, Africa,
America its similar in most countries and places.

In Sacramento it seems really popular. A lot of the kids at my son's elementary school play it and go to the camps and all that. Some of my kid's friends do private lessons.
Seems to be the most popular youth sport in this particular neighborhood, then there is a big gap then soccer and basketball.

This is the biggest change in my view. There is no “casual little league” anymore. A kid has to devote his life to it, playing travel, taking lessons, etc - or there’s no place for him. Little league is full of “gamers” who play on travel teams and are playing year round. So - while there is a passionate base of players, less people are going to play overall.

So in little league I wasn't the coaches son or a friend of his son. I had just signed up because it was either that or soccer and baseball was still big in the late 80's. I got put at second base and did well there. However when I got moved to the outfield I developed a gnarly case of the yips and couldn't hit the cutoff man to save my life (the looks I got were not encouraging despite the low stakes) so since no one offered instruction of any kind beyond a few hitting drills I got moved to the bench where I kind of just hung out till I had enough and left. That all happened from the time I was 6 until I was 8. The sad thing is I was a great athlete, but baseball is one of those things and my dad wasn't around to show me. Despite all that I still loved the game and I still do.

The pickleball angle hits home because my kids all played baseball at the local ball park, which has 4 little-league fields. Later games would have to be called when the sun went down. For years the league tried to get the city to put up lights, but it was too expensive. Then they installed pickleball courts on the other side of the park... with lights. So now the baseball teams have to pack up at dusk, but the 70yos can keep on plinking until the park closes at 10pm, and then they come back at 6am.

THe state of MLB has me really depressed. A game I have loved for 7 decades (Pirates since 67) for many reasons I have actually considered shelving like I have football & basketball but would really make my excitement return would be if Ben Cherington did what needs to be done and gets your name on a contract. I will purchase a season ticket package within 24 hours of your signing. Best of luck whatever your destination!

Most American's are wanting to be entertained without have to work with their minds to achieve the total experience. Once BB fans understand the game behind the surface experience it goes to another level.

Trevor if you ever film a video in NC I’ll for sure play catch with ya! Baseball is an acquired taste. It’s not for everyone. We’d all like to see the game have more action or move faster but that’s just not how the game works. Possibly eliminating foul balls on third strikes would speed the game up. I say this bc in the majors most hitters are good enough to foul pitches off just to get to the pitch they want.

  • @aaronwilson4258
    @aaronwilson4258 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

Trevor, the biggest barrier to entry for playing baseball is the number of people you need to play a game. In pretty much every game, you only need at least two people to be able to play. Those games are basketball, soccer, golf, any net game (tennis, badminton, volleyball, pickleball, etc.), frisbee golf, normal frisbee, martial arts, wrestling, etc. And all of those games get better with only four players. Baseball, on the other hand, requires way more players. Even just to play casually, you need a pitcher, three basemen, and maybe some outfielders. And that's just for one team. You'd need maybe 12 players total for a light casual game. That's way harder to organize than a game that only requires a few people. That on top of all the gear you need is part of the reason why people don't love baseball as much anymore.

Hey, MLB, yeah... this guy is trying to be an ambassador for the game, and he has gone out of his way to try to bring families back to the ballpark, yet none of you are willing to give this man a chance to redeem himself. I hope MLB expands soon, if only to hopefully give two additional GMs a chance to prove that they are smart enough to put this man into their rotation. It's a shame that one person's false accusations can force someone out of their profession for 5 or 10% of their expected lifespan in a sport, but MLB, you are sure proving that you are willing to take anyone's word over a man whose opinion doesn't match the commissioner's if only to try and silence him and disassociate him from your game. 😢
Keep up the great work, Trevor, and someone will finally realize that you are not the man they perceive you to be, but better than most of them at being honest and being willing to grow the game. 😊

THIS is what will help grow the sport again. I remember players being very accessible growing up. Now, even at spring training, they completely ignore the fans. Of course talking about MLB sticking it to the fans, tickets are, in some cases, more than regular season tickets. That's absurd! Families save a lot of money, which isn't easy these days, they come down to Arizona or Florida, and just get raked over the coals. The problem is that it's not fans of the game running MLB. It's now hedge fund, let's make as much money as we can soak from people as fast as we can, mentality types.
