Those who think that Uriah Heep was just a hard rock band, or a "sub-Deep Purple" should listen to this track and to the whole album... Uriah Heep were very versatile in their early years and I wish they had gone on in this way... Doing this album after Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble was really courageous, it was a progressive rock album with touches of psychedelism and hard rock... with already a wonderful works on harmony vocals here and there. I just wish they had used strings instead of just brass and woodwinds for this track.
Agree, massively under rated and a very clever band. Never got the accolades of Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath etc, but in many ways they were musically far more complex than them all. Top UK band, should have achieved so much more success - although at Mote Park a couple of years ago they were simply sensational.
@@andykilvington1651 Actually, they achieved a lot of success but it didn't last. I read from many soources that circa 1972-1977, they sold around 30 millions albums worldwide. I'm not fond of the AOR rock era in the 80's, but since then, they did really strong albums, although there's a big gap during the late 90's, early 2000's. I do like all the recent albums since the great Sea of Light (1995), especially the latest from 2018, Living the Dream
They may have been going by the old mantra that rock groups couldn't use strings in their songs. Sounds like macho BS but it was a "thing" and I'm sure many men.(and some women) strongly believed it. Probably poser Beatles haters with fragile egos and suppressed homosexual tendencies.
I think this track actually preceded Child in Time, which resembles Salisbury hugely. I never understood why so few people noticed it. Child in Time was great, but it doesn't beat Salisbury in richness, nuances and overall message. An probably even in terms of musicianship.
@@storozhakovgregory3032I don't get why people need to degrade other stuff and even LIE to praise something. Yes, this is an amazing song, no need to lie in order to praise it. Hell no, this didn't precede Child In Time. This album was released in January 1971. In Rock, which features CIT, was released in June 1970. And they even have recordings as early as September 1969

those Mick Box solos at the end are fantastic !
Stunning
Just INCREDIBLE !!!!!
Somewhere in your eyes
That very special glow
Something drawing me
To where I do not know
I never really thought
That I would lose myself
Now I'm going faster than anybody else
You move without a sound
And touch me with your hand
Just like the rain that fondles
Every grain of sand
This thing we're gonna do
It's just for you and me
I'm gonna make it good, good as it can be
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Your kiss is sweeter now
Your breath is getting warm
We must take our time
And last it through 'til dawn
I wonder will it be oh, I expect it to
There have been other girls
No one else like you
I feel a power here I never felt before
And I begin to see
What draws us to want more
Oh girl of all my dreams
Please tell me if I'm wrong
Because I've been blue, but we belong
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
As time passed and all too fast
I just knew we couldn't last
And I guessed that the end
Was near at hand, oh yeah
Though we tried our love inside
It just crumpled up and died
What went wrong I will never
Never understand, you tell me why
[Chorus]
Alone again, how could you leave me?
Alone again, I don't wanna be
Alone again, yeah!

In the hall of progressive rock masterpieces
Big band rock from 1970. Still amazing. Unearthly harmony.
Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl back. Most epic break-up song ever!
a rock n roll song that’s pure gold orchestra.
And the Heep band members said the orchestra members were rolling their eyes at the rock portions as they recorded!
Masterpiece
Yep you said it. And i agree
You're right,one master shot then.....
I just selected this song at a bowling alley jukebox. Hahaha.
TY Dr Bob for introducing me to this album. Great end of the evening with headphones album.

[Verse 4]
There's a line in a rhyme
I was going to send to you
It says, "All that is to be will surely be"
So oh, though you had to go
Cause you needed someone new
Is there still a chance
That you'll come back to me?
I want you back, you see
[Chorus]
Alone again, how could you leave me?
Alone again, I don't wanna be
Alone again, yeah!

The lyrics were very poignant for me 20 years after this was recorded. I have been a fan for 50 years.
Lol merci pour les paroles
Interesting music. This is unique.
