i know this is old maybe you can help tho! 04 silverado 4.8 W/T i got no power windows or power locks . Can i add DIC to my truck? i'm trying to see my gas mileage and all. THANKS!
@xikiloz8193 I'm not 100% sure about the w/t model but I think it is possible. You need to either reprogram your Custer with a tech 2 device or just find a Custer that has these options from the factory. Try ebay or a local junk yard. Hope this helps and good luck 🙂
@@T_B_C_L i got one from the junkyard but it didn't pull up gas mileage or anything. however it had driver 1 and alll on there some things mines didn't have. I'm just trying to figure out if i can see my Mpg and miles to a tank lol. Also thank you for the response
@xikiloz8193 the key is getting one that has those options. GM went all crazy different on many trucks. If you can pull one from a truck that you can look that Vin up to see what the truck had from factory, would be best. You can use a Vin look up website like this www.free-vin-decoder.com/
After I installed my steering wheel buttons, I had a lot of problems trying to get the PAC to stay programmed. I then got an iDataLink Maestro SW, and it worked first time, and it's been rock solid. The programming was far easier as well, because it's done with a Web interface on your computer. This is super convenient for dual assigning buttons. For example, I have my Seek buttons to go forward and back on tracks for short press, but then forward and back on albums for long presses.
I did not have any luck with the pac SWI-CP2. I just ordered the Maestro SW. Can you tell me what wires you used to bypass the the canbus? I have already located the green wire on the clock spring and the resistance changes with each button press. The maestro should be here tomorrow. Any help with the wiring would be appreciated. Thank you.
I know this is an old video, but my horn wasn’t working and luckily found this. I did mine just as yours, roughed up the brass and added solder and it’s working now. Thanks
Thank You for the video! I have a Chevy Silverado 2003, my dealership didn't want to flash my cluster with new VCI (to unlock the RPO), but with your explanation, i dont mind that the mileage, and gas info works... I just want to be able to control the stereo functions (change songs and answer phone calls!) (have new stereo and iDataLink Maestro SW instead of PAC)!!!
Yup that's exactly my setup. If you really wanted the other functionality in the cluster you could get a cluster from a truck at wrecking yard that had those features and it would work.
@@T_B_C_L i have a cluster that has all the functions... But then again... My dealership wont flash my cluster (im in Monterrey, Mexico) so, i need to wait to the border to be open so I can go to Texas and get my cluster flashed... Thank you for this video! Although i have the pac swi-rc1, i tapped into the green wire in the harness from underneath the steering column with the light blue wire from the pac swi-rc1 harness, then the black and red wire to ground and acc power respectively. I programmed the pac manually. Then connected the jack to the swc behind the pioneer headunit. Worked flawlessly!
Question for either of you, I have a alpine double din touch screen and just did the whole swap myself with no luck on steering wheel controls working, I have everything hooked up and wired pac up the way pac says to no avail any help would be appreciated. * Further background it was basic steering wheel swapped clock spring and wheel *
@@maxbrino7050 I would start by checking the button press resistance coming off of the green wire you tapped into. Make sure the resistance is indeed changing when you press one of the buttons. If it does change then most likely you are good to that point and the clockspring and steering wheel was installed correctly. You could then move on to troubleshooting you wiring of the pac. Hope this helps!
Great video man. I just did the steering column and steering wheel swap but am having an issue. In your video you said the interface has to be analog and not CANBUS. Do you know why that is? I ask because my previous non SWC set up was a Crux SOCG-17C interface which is just a chime interface. I ordered the Crux CS-GMC2 which is their SWC interface. This comes with a wire that you plug into the back of the head unit instead of tapping into the harness. I’m getting a trouble light that says “CAN not recognized”. That’s why I ask why it has to be analog instead of CANBUS because this interface is supposed to be plug and play. I called Crux and they weren’t much help.
In order to use the cabus option, you would have to have the bcm flashed by the dealer to turn on this function. By tapping into that wire and utilizing the analog option ,you bypass this step. Hope that makes sense.
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra. I gor a steering wheel with controls out of a 2003 sierra and a cadillac cluster. My question to you is what harness an i going to have to change out?
The steering wheel from a 2000 is different then that of a 2003 so I'm gonna guess the harness is different to. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think those are interchangeable.
Would it be cheaper if I just install a whole steering column that already had the clock spring and steering wheel controls found one on offerup for 140
That's a decent price but you need to make sure the clock spring is not Damaged! If the steering wheel is not locked down it can over rotate damaging the actual clock spring!
It's only for radio controls. You would have to swap th cluster for one that came with the these functions from the factory or have your cluster flashed to have these functions.
hey man i have read most of the questions asked and also the website you shared i have a simple question. if the case is the same as you have here but no after market alarm is the new clock works allllllll just straight plug and play? seems like it is just wanted to make sure man. thanks for the video pretty sweet helps me alot just need that little verification of the plug and play.
@@dirtbiker479 sorry man I just noticed your question but yes if installing for aftermarket radio you need the pac. And you will need to solder at that point.
Do you need a new BCM? I have a 2003 3500 work truck and it’s bone stock nada fancy . Old owner did put in a newer steerin wheel with buttons but not the clock spring. I know the truck has an alarm, but since it doesn’t have power windows or more accessories I was wondering if I would have to change the BCM aswell in order to make it all work?
@@T_B_C_L so since mine has a viper alarm, I’d have to only now change out the clock spring and re soder the alarm into the new harness. Where does that harness connect to again? Into the BCM orrrrr does that connect into the actual PAC module ( either 12 or 24 pin connecter) ?

@@moyyminoyy7531 if the truck didn't come with steering wheel controls from the factory, unfortunately it will not have the proper harness to add them. You would have to change the clockspring like I did.
Honestly man I have no idea. I'm thinking it probably would but your best bet would be to get an entire steering column with steering wheel from a salvage yard at a cheap price to try it. I will say, if you get it to work, that would make for a great video. Good luck!
Just got done this swap, very straight forward. I have yet to get my cluster flashed for DIC and install my SWI-RC. But should my buttons illuminate with the rest of the dash at night? Or will getting the cluster flashed and the pac Installed supply power to the buttons after?
If you did the clockspring swap then the lights on the steering wheel should be illuminated. Make sure you check all your connections and test your other steering wheel functions like blinker windshield wipers, horn ect.

That all depends on the control adapter you use. Axxess I believe has the ability to have double press buttons. I did this a long time ago so I'm sure there are many more options nowadays.
Honestly I don't recall getting that light.... If I did I probably just cleared the code. I will say I don't recall having any issues with the air bag light though.
hello, im little confused if i change steering wheel and harnes with the controls one will it work without any another hardwares ? i have factory radio and i have changed the cluster to 2006 year so it should have the steering controls programed right ?
If you want the extra cluster functions you need a cluster that came from the factory with those functions or have yours flashed. If you want your factory radio to work with the steering wheel controls, you need to have the bcm flashed to support this function. Of course this is all after adding proper clockspring harness and steering wheel with controls. If you have an aftermarket radio you need to ad a steering wheel controls adapter and tap into that green wire as I mentioned in the video. If you go that route then bcm does not need to be flashed. Hope this all makes sense 😊
@@duanesharpjr9512 when I did the project I purchased a brand new steering wheel that came with the switches. It also come ready to install with the harness that connects to the clockspring.
Hey.. my names Joseph and I was hoping to get some info from you about your steering wheel controls. So I know you changed the steering wheel and clockspring but did you have yo do anything with the bcm..? Like get a new one or get it programmed..? Thanks
You won't need anything done to bcm as long as you are using an aftermarket radio. If you want upgraded info from your cluster now that will need to be flashed or replaced with one that had this from the factory. Hope this makes sense 😊
Unfortunately no but it is possible! You need to either have the dealer flash your cluster or get a cluster from a junk yard that had all those functions than they will work!
So i have a 99 Silverado, basically converted everything to a 04, cateye front end, SS interior. Just put the SS trailblazer steering wheel on with the controls ( Exact same look and fitment as the silverado wheels) Im just wondering if you happen to know if i were to put the 03 Clock spring harness in my 99, would it plug right in? or no? what are your thoughts on this.. All i want is for it to light up and to be able to control music. Thanks man!
I'm not sure honestly. I do know the steering wheels are different from a 99 to a 03-04. If it was me I would try to find an entire complete steering column from like a junk yard for cheap. Then you can see if the plugs are different or maybe you could even peice the 2 together to make it work.
Pre 2003 bodystyle had completely different electrical systems in them. The steering wheel controls post 2003 use can bus networks to function hence the reason you need a module to utilize them with an aftermarket radio. Not sure it's possible to use a newer steering wheel without having the harness and control modules.
If you don't have an aftermarket alarm either way would be easy. I will say, if you are looking into a used clockspring changing entire column might the way to go.
Unfortunately it may be discontinued. The last time I looked up the steering wheel it was also discontinued. You're probably gonna have to find it elsewhere.
I am not talking about the PAC. The factory radio harness you removed from the back of the radio to the Pioneer radio. I used a Crux CS-GMC2 and this wiring harness will not work with the PAC. Thanks for the fast reponse
hey bud, I got a question. Did you have to take your truck to the dealer to get the steering wheel programed? Or do you not need to do that if you connect a PAC and aftermarket radio?
No need for the dealer unless you want to flash the cluster. If you only want stereo controls, volume (all the upper buttons on the steering wheel) then the pac and aftermarket radio is all you need!
hwydrifter unfortunately you are correct.... If you want the dic to work you either need to have it flashed at the dealer or pick up a used one that came with it from the factory from a junk yard
Hope you figured it out. All of a sudden a bunch of comments that I've never seen before just popped up. Some going back years ago. Sorry if I missed it man. Definitely was not trying to ignore anything. TH-cam and it's algorithms 🙄 yes you need a separate adapter.
Unfortunately no, I did this job right before I really got into making youtube videos. The job is pretty simple though especially if you do not have a hardwired alarm.
Yes, you will most likely have 1 or 2 plugs (I can't exactly remember how many ) left over that is for quadrasteer. Everything else should plug right in.
Hey bro I got the same Yukon but Yk the voice activate on the steering wheel, well I clicked that and now there is this beeping noise and idk how to stop it just wanted to know if you could help
Yes unfortunately it is. This was my situation and made the install much more difficult, but as you can see I was able to get it done. I just took my time and transferred all the connections one at a time from the old harness to the new harness.
Nathan Clark only the buttons on the top are able to be programmed. The bottom buttons will only work if you replace the cluster with one that came from the factory with steering wheel controls or you have your cluster flashed.
@@stephenhunt39 man I missed a lot of questions. Sorry for late reply but a gm dealer would have to flash the actual Guage cluster or you could go to a junk yard and get a cluster out of a truck that had steering wheel controls from the factory.

skoop2003 I am trying to do the same thing on my end. I believe the easiest way to do it is to buy a complete clockspring harness from 03-06 Silverado/Sierra 2500 Truck with steering wheel control options (those only have one one plug for the airbag like 99-2001 Models) and adapt it to the current column you have on your truck with the 03-06 Style Steering Wheel. I did the same procedure. But now I have two problems. 1) the windshield wipers and washer don’t work and when I put the key into acc. I can’t operate the windows.
Wow that's weird! Maybe check the main plug an make sure you fully seat that lever that goes around the entire plug, that's what locks it in place. I'm sure you gotta have a bad connection somewhere.
Hello man great video, I want to do this on my 06 sierra 2500HD Work Truck Trim. You think if I get the clockspring harness pac and steering wheel it should work? Thanks
Z71___ it should work just fine. The pac reads the resistance from the buttons to work so as long as you install the proper clockspring and a steering wheel with controls everything should work just fine!
Yes that part is needed no matter what for an aftermarket radio to work with the steering controls! Wait let's make sure we are talking about the same thing. You will not need the clockspring as long as the colum came out of a truck that had steering controls but you will need an anolog steering wheel control module like the pac I used.
@@CristianGarcia-dn5fm cut harness or not, in order to get the steering wheel controls to works you just need to run the steering wheel controls remote wire from your aftermarket radio to the light green wire under the dash after you install that column.pac-audio.com/swi-guide-center/swi-guides/#2005-chevrolet-silverado-swi-rc/10272/24

Hello. This is great! I found all the parts, but I got stuck trying to disconnect the clock spring. How did you research how to disconnect the buzzer switch and the large connection under the steering column?
The buzzer switch (heard someone else call it that) is the little white connection near the ignition cylinder. It sits right behind the Small black connection. Yes the large one- got it unlocked but can’t seem to pull it loose.
Jason Sanders I believe the wires you are talking about are for the ignition lock. This is a bit of tricky one. There is a tab on the inside (closest to the middle of the column) that needs to be depressed. Use a very small screwdriver for this. It will pop right out!! @xikiloz8193 I'm not 100% sure about the w/t model but I think it is possible. You need to either reprogram your Custer with a tech 2 device or just find a Custer that has these options from the factory. Try ebay or a local junk yard. Hope this helps and good luck 🙂

Thank you.

Man, and here I am feeling old at 47...😂
I know this is an old video, but my horn wasn’t working and luckily found this.

Hell yea man, that's awesome! It's so much nicer being able to control the radio from the steering wheel! 🍻
With the swi-rc1 it says nothing about tapping into a green wire, also my controls don't light up at all after hooking the wheel up.
Anyway I could get hold of you send you what they're telling me to tap into and whats happening/ not happening??

That is a totaly different steering wheel, wiring harness, everything so honestly man I'm not sure. Sorry
So do u get the. Function of fuel miles and how much till empty or is this only for the radio controls?
It's only for radio controls. You would have to swap th cluster for one that came with the these functions from the factory or have your cluster flashed to have these functions.
hey man i have read most of the questions asked and also the website you shared i have a simple question. if the case is the same as you have here but no after market alarm is the new clock works allllllll just straight plug and play? seems like it is just wanted to make sure man. thanks for the video pretty sweet helps me alot just need that little verification of the plug and play.
Yup everything is just plug and play no need to solder or crimp anything!
You still need the pac though correct?
@@dirtbiker479 sorry man I just noticed your question but yes if installing for aftermarket radio you need the pac. And you will need to solder at that point.

Will swapping the entire column for one with radio controls work? Even though it will be a different key for the ignition.
Yes that absolutely will work! As long as you get the clockspring harness from the donor truck enact. Some yards go crazy on just cutting things out.
you think If I have a 2006 silverado with a steering wheel with no controls on it it’ll have the harness under the airbag for the controls or is it an automatic no ?
@@moyyminoyy7531 if the truck didn't come with steering wheel controls from the factory, unfortunately it will not have the proper harness to add them. You would have to change the clockspring like I did.
Will this also work if I have power everything except the digital AC like you do.
Yes.
Did you have to cut the harness to install the wires from the new clock spring? Or where did you connect the cables from the new clock spring?
The clockspring was plug and play, well except for the alarm and the steering wheel control adapter.
If i have my original radio … will it still work with the controls without getting the module to control it?
The factory radio will only work if you have the bcm flashed by a dealer or someone who has a tech 2 programmer!
Do you think this will work in a Chevy express van 03-06? They never came with steering wheel controls, but everything appears to be the same
Honestly man I have no idea.
Make sure you check all your connections and test your other steering wheel functions like blinker windshield wipers, horn ect.

hello, im little confused if i change steering wheel and harnes with the controls one will it work without any another hardwares ? i have factory radio and i have changed the cluster to 2006 year so it should have the steering controls programed right ?
If you want the extra cluster functions you need a cluster that came from the factory with those functions or have yours flashed. If you want your factory radio to work with the steering wheel controls, you need to have the bcm flashed to support this function. Of course this is all after adding proper clockspring harness and steering wheel with controls. If you have an aftermarket radio you need to ad a steering wheel controls adapter and tap into that green wire as I mentioned in the video. If you go that route then bcm does not need to be flashed. Hope this all makes sense 😊

If you mean from the newer vehicles, I'm not sure but I doubt it. All the connections would have to be the same including the clockspring.

@@johnbalderas1989 they changed to series 3 I believe. Yeah impossible unless you got a 99 with the controls as a donor.

hey bud, I got a question. Did you have to take your truck to the dealer to get the steering wheel programed? Or do you not need to do that if you connect a PAC and aftermarket radio?
No need for the dealer unless you want to flash the cluster. If you only want stereo controls, volume (all the upper buttons on the steering wheel) then the pac and aftermarket radio is all you need!
are you able to access all the DIC functions on the speedometer? I've read you have to get the cluster flashed to a vin that has steering controls.
hwydrifter unfortunately you are correct.... If you want the dic to work you either need to have it flashed at the dealer or pick up a used one that came with it from the factory from a junk yard

The steering control module is completely separate, so I don't see why not.

The Blue Collar Life you seem to know more than I do so I did the conversion and can’t find anywhere to get my cluster flashes if I buy a cluster that came out of a vehicle that had the buttons originally would mine work
Thanks man helped me out!
Glad I could help!
With this swap are you able to go through the menus on the gauges? Or is this mainly just for radio controls?
This is mainly for radio controls but it is possible to control the Guage cluster. You would have to to have your cluster flashed or get a cluster from a vehicle that had steer wheel controls from the factory.
The Blue Collar Life hey, Do you know if the plastic middle piece is removable from the air bag? My oem steering wheel is gmc and the steering wheel with controls I bought is chevy
@@Drivermod_Josh for sure man that middle air bag will just pop out. Just gotta stick something in those little holes behind the steering wheel to release it. Just pop both out and swap them.
@@T_B_C_L awesome to know, I just have a few more questions
The steering wheel I got has the harness cut off, but came with all the connectors, now can I just plug in the harness that is already in my truck to it or do I have to put the connectors back onto that old harness thats on the steering wheel with the controls? I got it with a complete steering column too.
I also saw some comments you replied to, but the old oem gauges would now be able to show the mpg and such? or would I have to get them flashed at the dealership?
I really do appreciate the info, I subscribed!
@@Drivermod_Josh if I understand you right, the steering column harness Has all the connectors on the column side but was cut vehicle side. If that's correct then yes just plug in all the connectors where your old harness and column was removed. As far as the Guage cluster yes the only buttons that will work are the top buttons. If you want MPG and those other features you either can get a used cluster that had those features or have your cluster flashed. Good luck with the project!
Are the door panels able to swap with the base model too?
I believe they are even though they look different!
Hi, The video straight to the point 👌🏻. I have my 2004 Yukon, When I have checked the price for the harness it was ~ $245 is this the actual price? Also from where I can get the wheel steering itself.
Yea those clockspring harnesses are expensive so that sounds right. I did try to find a steering wheel awhile back and it seems they are discontinued so they are hard to find. I think those years are just getting to old now, so these manufacturers are not making these parts anymore.
@@T_B_C_L I can’t see the link for the harness anymore! Thank you

Nope everything worked perfectly and is still working to this day!
Add a ground to the wiper motor housing. Had to do this on several Chevys.
What other colors did u use in the pac? Green red and black?
Green, red, black that's it!
Did your harness for the clock spring come with it?
MrRick1303 yes that part # on the box is the clockspring and harness together oem and not a Dorman or other aftermarket part!
EROracing cool dude thanks for the fast response
Hello - Did you have to get your truck reprogrammed at the dealer to get the controls to work?
Controls will work with aftermarket radio and steering wheel control adapter. If you want to see gas mileage and other stuff on the cluster you need to have dealer flash the cluster or replace the cluster like I did.
th-cam.com/video/n0NhmaAUPRk/w-d-xo.html
@@T_B_C_L Dang thanks for that info. I can't get my AWSC-1 to recognize the truck at all. I replaced the clockspring and went through the setup but it just flashes red and green which according to the instructions it means it does not recognize the vehicle. Few people are telling me I need to reprogram the cluster to turn on the steering wheel controls.
@@bogeysbaseball6319 The truck will never recognize the the adapter because the bcm was flashed from the factory to not have steering controls. You have to set it for manual configuration. Unfortunately even after trying to configure it manually I never got the a access adapter to work. This is why I went with the pac adapter. Try to program it manually and see if you can get it to work.
Hey man I’m about to start my project and when I went to order the same pac interface that you have I couldn’t find it anymore. Would you know if the PAC SWI-PS would also work? Seems like they both same instructions. Thanks in advance

Will this work with the rp5-gm11 control module?
I wish I could help you out man but I have no experience with that module.
I used that one RP5-GM11 also and no work did you get it to work
@@MrNLC no it won't work without flashing your BCM. The rp5-gm11 relies on the class 2 serial network for input for the steering wheels controls which it receives from the BCM. The way he is doing it is getting the signal directly from the Steering wheel and inputing it into the swc-r1 module. So essentially the Swc module is doing what the BCM would do in a vehicle equipped with the steering wheels controls from the factory.
Would this be possible to a 99-02 sierra/silverado?
The vehicle is almost identical so I would think it would but I can't say for absolutely sure, sorry!
will this work with my 2000 Sierra?
Honestly I'm not sure. The 99-02 are different than the 03-06 and I don't have any experience with those. I would think it would but I don't want to say yes if I don't personally have experience with it.
Does your MPH and fuel consumption work?
No, you have to have your cluster flashed or pick up one from a junk yard that had the steering control's from the factory.
@@T_B_C_L so you just walk into a dealer and tell them you want the BCM flashed for steering wheel controls ?
@@keithellett4283 lol.... I wish it was just that easy. Off the top of my head I can't remember the code need to be flashed but it all depends on the dealership. Some dealership will work with you and may have done this before so process would be simple. Other dealerships would look at you like you are crazy and tell you it's not possible. The programing of cluster needs to be done with a tech II scan tool.

I have a 03 Silverado gonna switch out with a tbss steering wheel my truck has a vipar alarm i know I need to switch out clock spring but why would it be more difficult to do with a vipar alarm I thought it was just plug in the new clock spring wiring?
It's more difficult because half the alarm wires are connected to the clockspring. So you have to transfer all of those wires to the new clockspring as you are removing and installing the new clockspring. It's not impossible just a pita.

Hello. This is great! I found all the parts, but I got stuck trying to disconnect the clock spring. How did you research how to disconnect the buzzer switch and the large connection under the steering column?
Jason Sanders do you mean the large plug that connects into the rest of the harness? And I'm not sure what you mean buzzer switch?
Jason Sanders www.gmfullsize.com/threads/how-to-add-dic-to-03-06-gm-trucks.144071/ maybe this will help you out!
As far as the pug if I remember correctly it should have a handle you need to move one way or the other and it should come right out!
Where can I buy your steering wheel like that I can’t find one

If your vehicle did not come with steering wheel controls from the factory than you have to change the clock spring.
It's more difficult for me because I have to change the clock spring and I have to keep my cluster. You know how dumb it would look with a manual with a shifter out the colum and the gear selector in the gauges.
