I just swapped an 03 wheel into my 02 Duramax and you have no idea how much this helped. Although, my wheel shaft and upper intermediate shaft were spherical jointed so I had to swap those to the same bolt up type as on your truck here.
So I I did this upgrade tonight. My truck had the blue ball instead of the one where you can change the spline on it like in this video. I pulled a whole 03 suburban column from the junkyard and thought I would have to swap columns but I figured out you can take the bolt out that connects the steering shaft to the column at the bottom and you do the same process but instead of where he unbolts to the top piece, you can just take top and bottom column shaft out and slide it into your column. A bit of work but not near the pain in the ass of a full column swap

Springs post me off too bro. I use a couple zip ties to compress and then cut em off once spring is in place. Works for me. Good to see ya back wrenching. Thanks for sharing the video
Great video. Tips to put the long spring back in: push it together in a wise and hold it together with 2 zipties, those you cut later when the spring is back in place
Excellent video, I screwed my airbag clock after replacing my A/C EVAPORATOR CORE and Heater Core, my fault for not knowing I over-spun the wheel and snapped the clock cable, triggering my Service Air Bag light, I got the replacement part from AutoZone and will replace mine this weekend.
This pretty much the same thing I had to do to swap a c6 Vette wheel into my '00 Firebird. I used an express 1500 airbag and removed the upper column shaft from a chevy venture I think. Allot of gm vehicles of the era use the same upper shaft. Found a column on eBay for cheaper than I could buy just the shaft from the dealer. The two connector (dual speed airbag) was used in all standard consumer vehicles were the older single connector (single speed airbag) was still used on all commercial grade vehicles.
Just did this swap , but I ended up buying a column at a junk yard for $65 . No one tells you that you have to swap over the steering wheel harness to make it work . It was a pain in the a** to get that spring compressed , but it's in and looks great after it's all together.

Yes! This is very possible, just like the 03-04 HD truck steering wheels. If you can find one and in good shape, that is definitely the easiest option.

Just did the swap in my 2000 and I replaced signal switch and ignition switch and swapped whole column, just didn't have the super fancy tools to pull the column apart,

Also if you can grab an airbag cover off a trailblazer or something the later ones have a nicer airbag cover that fits in the 03-07 silverado wheel with a round gel coated circle chevy emblem, makes the 04 wheel look even nicer
Any way you try it, moving is hard! I am glad you getting settled in. So much stuff to do and moving things around. It is interesting that just the shaft size was changed as I understand the SIR low impact & higher impact modes that actually deploy both at the same time. In GM land, the only approved repair to yellow covered wires are the heat shrink w/glue butt connectors after crimping of course. Question: On your Blue older truck that got the LS engine, what brand of cold air tube system was that! I don’t need the P/N just the company as I like the black look. Now, I know you may have blacked it out your self, but I like the Air Flow Meter location as others put it on the filter end. Thanks. Warn folks about the TH-cam bell feature change. I still don’t understand why or how it works but until changed I never got a notification. Hope you enjoy TX. FYI the 03 Savana and Express Have one plug instead of two and they have the same wheel and airbag as the 03-07 Silverado/Sierra
