Well, you really don't have to upgrade to S9 from an S7, especially considering the new Oreo update that's about to come. Unless you really want the new camera and the super slow-motion or something, the Oreo update makes a huge difference in all the Galaxy devices, the speed have increased quite a bit and everything seems to run more smoother and faster. So, yeah i think S7 will be able keep you happy for another year.

To this day I am using my s7 edge. Still fast enough & via root I uninstalled all the bloatware. Replaced battery from Samsung service center and it is going strong.

Yeah, S7 is an amazing smartphone and still works super fast and with than new Oreo update, every samsung smartphone seems to have gotten faster and smoother and S7 is definitely the biggest gainer in my opinion. But at the same time, i feel like something is wrong with his S9 though, it seems quite a bit slower than the other S9's i have seen in other channels. It could just be an optimisation issue but it definitely is slower.

Don't worry in s7 animation speed is 0.5 so it is faster and s9 changed to 2 so it's slow down

I don’t like the s8 note 8 or s9 because I had a note 8 for like 9 months and the tempered glass made it impossible to type with the curved screen. I’m thinking about selling my x to buy a s7 flat but don’t really feel like messing with it. Because I love the x too, but the s7 is def a good deal.

Yourz Techy it's more down to optimisation. The phone is brand new and most 3rd party devs haven't had time to take advantage of the new hardware. The S9 is the most powerful android phone there is right now so there's no reason other than optimisation that it should be slower.

Plus the back glass was broken, I didn't want to spend a lot of money buying a battery + back glass for an old phone.
I still bought the S7 Edge tho, but ended up using it as a project phone.

No it is not a better buy because after the android 8 update you will not recieve any big updates anymore. Samsung always guarantees only 2 years of software updates.

Just Ian no, the newest anything is not usually worth it. Phones really only start to slow down after 4-5 years of use because of all the optimizations they get and even then they're still good as a daily driver. The only reason you should ever really replace a phone is when apps stop support for that device or the battery or other part begins to fail. Another downside to the newest thing is that they have unforseen flaws while older things already have been through the trial and error phase. I got my note 8 the day it came out and before I had a Moto g4 plus and there is very little difference besides boot time between the two devices and the Moto was 1/4 of the price at the time. Moral of the story is just do research and find whatever is good at the time for a fraction of the cost and consider older models

My S7 Edge Exynos Version Has now slowed down after the Updates. Running Android Version 8.0.0 & Samsung Experience 9.0 . The Lag is just disgusting. Yesterday I just snapped, I just threw my phone at the Floor. Cracked the Front & Back Glass then started to stomp it with rage. It still Works but time to Upgrade to Note 9 or I'll stick it out till February for the S10

Just go in settings/developer options/animation time set it to 0.5 or 0.....
The iPhone X and s9 both seem slightly less snappy on small apps then the last 2 gen of phones, iPhone 6s and 7, s7 and s8, which were all obviously incredible to begin with. but the thing is they play games way better, do more stuff like 4k60, and they open bigger apps or games usually faster and do faster video editing and rendering.... and only like a quarter second to maybe a second behind in opening smaller everyday apps, and stay in the memory well generally. No idea what causes this... maybe it is security, maybe the processors have become more complex like desktops and take a bit more time for something simple and aren’t as reduced in instruction set, or maybe they still just need to be optimized. I think we will all be mad if this gen of phones just gets left where it is currently because the new phones will be here in a matter of 4 months for iPhones and a little over 6 for Samsung.....so hope they can make our phones faster with smaller everyday apps like banking apps or Instagram on first load after a reset

I had S7 Edge for 3 years already. I had the problem with the pink line in the right corner of the screen but they fix it in warranty last year. They also changed my battery and now the phone is like brand new. The new battery is lasting more than the old one (around 30%). By the way the battery is 3600 mAh not 3400 mAh.
I still love my S7 edge and probably I will keep it for another year.

I bought the S9 a few days ago. Compare to s7 hmmm.... i missed the home button , finger scan on the home button & return button on the S7.
It is much more easy to use S7. B cos S9 without a home buton when it locked out when not touched in a few minutes then have to open with fingger scan wich is on the back of the phone, then we have to pick up the phone first to reach the back fingger scan. While on s7 just pres home button wich is also a finger scan on front of the phone without having to lift the phone.

I actually got both and SERIOUSLY cant see a lot of a difference apart from slighty bigger screen, photos are almost the same.. IQ the same, speed, also the same.. whats the point? I thought S9 would be much bigger upgrade to my old S7.. the only thing I dont like is that my battery is now 70%.. and in my S9 it is still 100% health. S9 also has FHD 240fps, and 960FPS (true FPS) not xiaomi fake 240->960 interpolated) cheers!

I upgraded from an S7 Edge to a S9 last month not because I was unhappy with my S7, but because I managed to snag a S9 off eBay for $530CAD. Get my S7 a year ago for $370CAD. I love eBay. For me personally I feel the S9 is faster/smoother, but yea, maybe not by much. The screen rato pissed me off a little at the start, but you get used to it and it is really not an issue. The BIG WIN for me was the switch to USB Type C. I have been having a hellof a time trying to get OTG and charge to work. Never worked for me on my S3, S5, S7 or my 12.1 Tab Pro. With USB Type C, OTG and charge and MHL all work at the same time, first try, no issues at all. As a bonus my USB Type C hub also works on my Dell XPS 15. So yea, I think I am a USB Type C convert.
