@@jordanl7489 You are correct when it comes to Deere or Case etc but with a Gleaner it's not hard to get a clean sample without sacrificing yield. It's the nature of the accelerator rolls and that makes clean samples easy. It allows the majority of the trash to be blown out before it gets to the sieves. Even in an old L it is fairly easy because you have a two stage cleaning fan which blasts the majority of the trash out before it reaches the sieves and you have a visual tailings sample that you can constantly monitor without leaving your seat or bending down to open a door. You just glance to your right and it's right there, no door to open and no stretching to see like an old Deere.
I can remember my grandfather (retired farmer at the time) telling me more than 40 years ago, that Gleaner made the best combines way back then. Great video!
My dad worked at a grain elevator for 33 years. Farmer who had Gleaner combines always had the cleanest samples. I think they are just beautiful machines.

I worked for a harvesting crew in 1987 out of Seward NE, and they ran Gleaner L2's. Due to a staff shortage of people with .... umm. ... driver's licenses ... I mostly drove trucks while we were cutting. But sometimes the owner/dad of this family operation would let me cut the first load or 2 of the long days in KS while he caught up on sleep. They are on Facebook, still cutting wheat, still using Gleaners. The son, who is now the owner, was 13 or 14 when I worked for them. He know his way around those L2's mechanically ... but did not have a driver's license.

My grandpa bought our Gleaner F2 brand new in 1981. My grandpa still uses it as our main combine on our farm. It's one if the last orange stripe models before they became deutz and switched to green with the F3 I believe. It's done everything from wheat, soybeans, milo, fescue, rice, and corn.
The F2 was built from 1977 to 1982 with the very early F2 having shorter walkers and the very early diesels still ran the 6 cylinder 301 cid vs later the 200 cid 4 cylinder. I think those changes were made in 1978. The F3 came out in late 1982 and was Allis Chalmers branded until 1985 when a Duetz-Allis sticker was placed on them but they still had the orange stripe. I drove an L3 from El Dorado, Oklahoma to Carrington, North Dakota summer of '85. Was part of Jim Couchman's crew out of Pond Creek, Oklahoma. Forever will be able to say I went North with the Wheat-cutters.
Wow. Thank you for sharing. You must have seen some awesome iron like MH2 combines. What were you big sellers? I would like to hear more about your dealerships. Could you email me at toytractortimes@gmail.com
I grew up not far from Reardan, WA. Did you run the dealer in Airway Heights near Spokane? Those Gleaners were nice combines but I think a lot of the farmers that had them went too fast or didn't have them set right because they tended to drop a lot out the back. Some folks called them "Silver Seeders". They sure seemed to run smooth. Really liked the way the unloading auger rotated out to unload.
Had a 1981 M2 Hydro, to replace our John Deere 7700. I worked at a AGCO Allis Dealer in the late 90’s. We bought the M2 and went through it, replacing bearings and everything else that was wore out. Had a 315 flex header with height control. It felt like you were running a Cadillac compared to the 7700 gear drive. It would bury a 30lb boost gauge and smoke a little, more when you worked it hard. Miss that machine, would be on my list of things to buy if I started farming again.

They sure do! They also bring back great summer memories of baling straw, and second cutting hay on many July 4th's followed by ice cold beer and fireworks!
My friend's brother in law ran an MH and his uncle ran a GH. This was up in Eastern Washington. Both were hillside combines. The MH seemed a little more average but the GH put out some real clean grain. The uncle said he had a CH in his farm yard he had set aside in case he needed to cut some for seed. Never saw it run but he claimed that CH thrashed so clean he could dump it straight into the seed drills and plant it.
I worked at a Deutz - Allis dealer they truly were great machines. M-2, M-3, L-2, L-3. N-5,6 & 7 R40, 50 60 & 70 I left that dealership shortly after R-52, 62 and 72 models came out. It took a long time before I started to like the Red machines that I worked on after the Gleaners. In my opinion it took until the 2166, 2188s came out before they could match Gleaner in operator comfort and machine quality.
I started riding in an F diesel, then dad got an L2 which is by far the best sounding machine ever built. Lol. Then he got a 94 R72 with the big Deutz now he's got a 98 R72 with an M11 Cummins. Impressive machines. Watching one eat soybeans is petty impressive.
My Great-Grandfather used to say “I ain’t buyin’ a combine that they didn’t think highly enough of it to even paint it.” 😂 On the other hand, my Grandfather owned an F2 and swore it was the best sample he ever had (this from the man who praised Case IH). Never got to experience one myself unfortunately.
You know, the more things change the more they are the same. The Baldwin brothers started with their Gleaner self propelled combine in the 1920s and the most effective gas powered tractors of the day were the Holt Caterpillar track tractors. 100 years later we're back to there!
We have been running Gleaners from 1955 till today running as many as 12 L3's at one time. We are running 2 S77's with 35 ft. mac dons and one S97 with a 40 ft. 9255 dyna flex. We harvest corn, beans and wheat in the Mississippi delta. We had ten dealers at one time, now zero, we use Haney eq. out of Athens Al. and Kalvesta imp. out of Kalvesta Kansas, both are great. We have always loved Gleaners.
Dad's first Gleaner was a 1960 model C, big step up from the Massy Harris model 50. When we quit farming in 1977 we had a model L, I don't remember the year. We grew hard red winter wheat in south central Kansas.
I'm thinking of starting a farm one day soon and am considering getting ahold of a Gleaner L3. Like you were saying Gleaners do have a very clean crop sample after harvesting.
Gleaner was good about using standard part that you could pick up at any parts house now 2 weeks on ordering parts times sure have changed keep up the videos Jason
Grew up with an F and a G. My brother ran an M, L2, and now the N7. I bought the M and its still running great. I'm not doing the ammount of acres like my neighbors, and not very quick, but samples come out just as good, or slightly better than the new machines the big guys are using.
I have a 1983 L3 which is a good combine, I used it on oats, wheat, soybeans & corn. Gets used mainly on corn till this year. I have a R62 which seems to be broken down all the time. I had 200 acreas soybeanns this year and it took me 3 .weeks to get done. Plan on using the R 62 on corn this year, if it don't break down. If does we just go to the L 3 and just keep going with no break downs.
My father worked for allis chalmers from 1962 thru 1983 I grew up following him and helping him work on ac equipment I always thought ac tractors and gleaners were the only equipment made ever body else was just trying to keep up lol
My father owns a 81 Gleaner k2 he harvests barley wheat oats he loves the quality of the grain and he likes how easy it is to put the battery in and checking belts and chains its powered by a 292 Gmc 6 cylinder gas engine. He owns a small beef farm and a maple syrup setup for over 50 years in total he farms 200 acres some fields rented
Nice video! Not a gleaner fan but its nice to watch some wheat get harvested 👍. Question for you BigTractorPower...Deere has a new 50ft drapper now. Is there anyway you could make a video about it?
Spent many hours running a Gleaner L for a friend in Maryland, in grain, corn and soybeans. All the neighbors knew it as the Silver Seeder... Lol. Lots of headaches from the ill conceived electro-hydraulic systems. Most of us greatly preferred the IH axial flow machines of the same vintage. It was easier to get better cleaning with the IH(without sending it all out the back) and it was significantly more reliable and more comfortable to operate.

I can watch the old Gleaner conventionals all day long. Sweet L3! The R60 was sweet too.
It was best to film these Deutz Allis Gleaners. I hope to film a C62 conventional some day.
@@bigtractorpower probably would have to go to canada for that one,
I drove an L3 from El Dorado, Oklahoma to Carrington, North Dakota summer of '85. Was part of Jim Couchman's crew out of Pond Creek, Oklahoma. Forever will be able to say I went North with the Wheat-cutters.
I was out that same year with Wood Bros out of Hobart Oklahoma
Hell yea😅
I have an R-52 and had a JD 9500 previously. Let's just say I am happy. I had a TR85 before the Deere. Love my Gleaner.
Gleaner combine video. Instant like.
Thank you for watching.
In the late 70s and early 80s my partners and I had 4
Allis Chalmers Dealerships in the Palouse hill country of eastern Washington and Northern idaho
Gleaner combines are so efficient, smaller so weigh less and yes about the best grain sample out there. Awesome combines for sure!!!👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.

Gleaners are my favorite. My dad and uncle both used them when I was growing up. Love the video!
They are good combined. Thank you for watching.
Is it me, or do Gleaner's
just remind you of summer picnics, apple pie, and Fourth of July fireworks?
They sure do! They also bring back great summer memories of baling straw, and second cutting hay on many July 4th's followed by ice cold beer and fireworks!
Custom harvesting😊 60s style was great
My friend's brother in law ran an MH and his uncle ran a GH.
Gotta love the silver beasts!
You mean silver seeders?
Thanks for the history of combining
Thank you for watching.
Gleaner, cleanest grain in the truck!!! Grew up in them. C2, E,F, M, MH, MH2, L, ... They all worked their butts off!!!
Its amazing how much work they do.. have a good one buddy and take care.
We run two R72 and have really liked the simplicity of them and how they clean the grain
Very cool. The R72 is a monster combine.
Another great video BTP! I would love to get to your part of the country and see some of this big equipment in action.
I ran Gleaner combines everything from A to an L2.
Great video, thanks for showing the Gleaners, very special
Thank you for watching. I hope to find more Gleaners to film in wheat.
The R75 sure does sound good powered with a M11.
After this introduction I would believe Jason is a Gleaner dealer. But I'm a big gleaner fan as well 👍👍
Gotta love old iron machines
Outstanding video ,that S78 looked cool.
As far as I know, there are no gleaner dealers in the area.
It's always cool to see a silver combine at work👍 Great video👍
Thank you for watching.
L3 nation baby
My Great-Grandfather used to say “I ain’t buyin’ a combine that they didn’t think highly enough of it to even paint it.” 😂
On the other hand, my Grandfather owned an F2 and swore it was the best sample he ever had (this from the man who praised Case IH).
Nice video BTP! Dont see many of those in my area. Great finds!
We got our first gleaner in 1980 an f2. Had 55b John Deere it was slow now have s68 great machines
Great Gleaner history. The S68 is a nice combine.
Great machines that do an excellent job
👍👍
Hi Jason, I always enjoy your videos particularly combining. Nice to see Gleaners in operation. Thanks for what you do. - Dean from Minnesota
Thank you Dean. I appreciate you watching and commenting on BTP video. 😁👍
I love the Gleaner brand, they are great machines.
👍👍
Still run corn, wheat, and beans with a 1980 K2 diesel. Does a great job!
Very cool.
Great post. That is dedication to a brand to travel out of state to keep the tradition going. Gleaner combines do a great job.
Dad's first Gleaner was a 1960 model C, big step up from the Massy Harris model 50. When we quit farming in 1977 we had a model L, I don't remember the year. We grew hard red winter wheat in south central Kansas.
linda maquina 👏👏👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷
Ispoke to a Older gentleman that ran some of those old machines, he said: If it's not smokin' it's not workin'.
I'll never forget that.
That is a memorable saying.
I'm thinking of starting a farm one day soon and am considering getting ahold of a Gleaner L3. Like you were saying Gleaners do have a very clean crop sample after harvesting.
Nice 😊
Great product
Mi favorita saludos de tamaulipas mexico
Gleaner was good about using standard part that you could pick up at any parts house now 2 weeks on ordering parts times sure have changed keep up the videos Jason
Grew up with an F and a G. My brother ran an M, L2, and now the N7. I bought the M and its still running great. I'm not doing the ammount of acres like my neighbors, and not very quick, but samples come out just as good, or slightly better than the new machines the big guys are using.
Great video as always. Just wondering if you have a similar video for classic and modern Massey Ferguson combines. Ty
Nice
It's gotta be Gleaner!
I run an S78 and R72 with Macdon heads on my farm, cutting wheat, soybeans, and milo
Very nice. Great combines. The R72 has a great sound.
Excellent subject matter, thank you for posting. Maybe a Gleaner soon.
Up in to the 80s my dad ran corn wheat and beans through a 1975 Gleaner l
Cool gleaners! Awsome
The L3 is a solid machine. The R62 has a strong growl to it with the Cummins engine.
They used to be referred to as silver seeders where I grew up.
I run a K and a K2. Good machines in fescue!
My father worked for allis chalmers from 1962 thru 1983 I grew up following him and helping him work on ac equipment I always thought ac tractors and gleaners were the only equipment made ever body else was just trying to keep up lol
gleaners were always ahead of there time, even today.
My father owns a 81 Gleaner k2 he harvests barley wheat oats he loves the quality of the grain and he likes how easy it is to put the battery in and checking belts and chains its powered by a 292 Gmc 6 cylinder gas engine. He owns a small beef farm and a maple syrup setup for over 50 years in total he farms 200 acres some fields rented
running a R70 and we use it for corn, wheat, soybeans and once and a great while some milo.
Very cool.
Great video Jason
😁👍
Still have my gleaner e. Works great on my smal acres
I like more information on the l4
The best of the best
