    25:00 Here's a small tip I learned. On the bar oil jug I only put a small hole in the silver seal with a screwdriver on the opposite side of the handle. This way the oil comes out in a narrow stream so I don't spill it. If the seal is completely removed it makes a wide stream and makes a mess.

    33:44 In the middle of nowhere and there's still an old tyre in the bush.
    I realize that it's the town's tip/burn area but that tyre was well back from the current site!

    Trees up in the mountains spend so much time totally under snow when they are young, they barely grow year to year till they finally get tall enough to stay out of the snowpack

    Good show, worked as a cutter in 1979 and 1980 out of a camp north of Ketchikan. Ran 045 and 2100 Husky’s with 42” and 48” bars; square cut, skip tooth chains. I was in my mid 30’s at the time; worked Wa. and Or. also. It was a good time in my life and loved working in the woods. Stick with it young man and the memories will be there when you’re older; be safe in the big timber.

    You living the life my boy. I've always wanted to go to Alaska and to go there to fell some trees, I love it. I'm in Georgia and Florida helping with this hurricane. So many people have been taken advantage of from tree people. I'm here to make money don't get me wrong but I have helped people who didn't have the money to pay to get the work done. I took a huge pecan tree off an elderly woman's home. A tree service told her $10,000 for the tree. I offered to take it off for free. They ended up scrounging some money together and gave me like $115 but I was doing it to help more than anything

    I've been to Skagway and you're right; it's definitely off the grid. My wife and I got there via ship, but I believe that many of the locals fly or own their own boat. It's definitely rugged up there. The topography is positively breathtaking (as I like to say, "pristine wilderness"). I love your channel. You're quite a skilled technician. Excellent content.

      Not a great representation of southeast alaskan timber. Skagway is in the northern reaches of southeast so it's colder and doesn't have as good of soil as southern southeast. Larger spruce, hemlock, and cedar further south. Still no fir though

    Great couple of days working! Things out of your control in far away places... weather and area transportation. Maybe next time you'll be able to work a few more jobs per trip! Happy you anf Gordy had a safe trip... and on to the next one.

    • @PicklesBrandt
      @PicklesBrandt 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A ported saw usually gets muffler modded because once it's ported, the cylinder is moving gases through so much quicker that the muffler needs to have comparable exhaust flow so the saw can reach its full potential. That said, it is not unheard of for ported saws to be run with stock mufflers

    Hey Jake. I know it is old vid but regarding your "odd looking Hemlock" with the tight g/rings...I am really surprised that more peeps in PNW do not know this fact, but those little goofy looking Hemlock trees you cut to get your escape route down are many times older than the bigger Fir, Cedar, etc. that you harvest. They are called "Minion Stressed Dwarf Hemlock" trees. They orig. grow out of buttresses of dfir [the best sapling growing medium] and other conifer GIANTS. They can survive for many decades or a couple centuries or so waiting for the giants to fall next to them so they can be cut down someday by peeps like us who say, "that is an old Hemlock..." lol but there you go. When we see sparks fly from what seems like a little 2" diameter Hemlock 'sucker' [with an umbrella shaped canopy], then you know you are cutting some history and we might want to think twice about that escape route. I hope I didnt make you feel bad now for killing something that little and that old! You can use this info for another one of your excellent and informative and "humble" vids. I know you will cut me some cred! lol The main thing is BE F ING SAFE BROTHER!

    I thought that I saw You Tube videos on heli logging in Alaska. I may have been wrong and it was in Canada. Something else for you to get involved with. That area of Alaska and Canada is certainly remote and sparsely populated.

    Ain’t gotta worry about no Bears when your carrying a working chain saw? 🤷🏽

    Are you still in Alaska? are you going to be in the Anchorage area? if so, I would love to say hi and shake your hand. Love your videos.
