Mercury 1991 40 hp 2 strokes cold start after 8 months,spring 2017

  • First start after 8 months of sitting there and 3 months of cold winter with temps at -30 celcius.
    Motor is outside all winter long.
    Using Stabil Marine and Seafoam before winterizing the outboard.
    Its a 1991 40 Hp 4 cylinders 2 stokes with oil injection still working like new.
    This 40 Hp is installed on a 20' freigther canoe and max speed is around 45 and 48 km/h.

    Salut, je viens d'acheter un 1992 et je suis quand même inquiet des réparations compte tenu de l'âge du moteur. T'as quoi comme réparation normalement? Je voyais sur d'autres forum que la l'impaler était petit et que le cyclindres avaient tendances à chauffer?

      J'ai changer deux fois seulement impeller de la pompe a eau,les bougie a chaque annee.
      Le filtre a essence aux deux ans et je change l'huile du pied a tous les automne sans exception.
      C'est tout,tres bon moteur en ce qui me concerne et fiable.

    I have the same engine ( mine is a autolube ), on a fletcher speed arrow ... I haven's started it in years ... did you clean the carb prior to start ? I guess I'll need to disassemble my carb ...

      Put fresh gas and try it before touching the cabs.I have never cleaned the carbs,this is a tank of a motor.

      Autolube? Mercury called it Oil Injection. It says so, right there on the lower cowling.
