My 2008 impala had a seemingly strange cascade of problems the other night. A headlight went out so i replaced it but it wouldnt come on. Went to start the car and it barely turned over and started. Got home, killed it and it would not start. Found the positive side battery terminal broken. Installed a new one. Tried starting and theres a faint clicking sound only. Tapped on starter relay and it slowly turned over and started. Let it run awhile, tben it would not respond to tapping relay to start. Bought a new relay, still wont start. Some smoke rose up from a wire touching the starter. I secured it to not touch and checked grounds, still no start. Strangely, the other headlight on same side quit working. Replaced it then BOTH work (other headlight had been replaced but still wasnt working until the other went out and was replaced). Battery is at 12.6. I suspect some insulation may be compromise d on the wire by the starter. Could that be the likely culprit of these problems? Ty
Thank you sir this helped me a lot yesterday. Got caught in a tough, hot, mobile repair, wife's car refused to sporadically no start for me and of course starter died away from home. Already knowing the pinout on that relay allowed me to put 12v to the starter and all I got was a clicking solenoid confirmed by a parts house test, motor was burned out. Was relieved it wasn't fusebox, computer, anti-theft etc. I had to SMH when I figured out that they had put a catalytic converter right over the starter, PITA.
i got a 2003 monte carlo, no crank, starter clicks, engine is not seized, i got a black and orange terminal wire without a place i dont know where it goes, can u help
2012 impala i changed trans now no power coming from pcm to starter relay to ingage starter tried swapping the pcm and bcm out of another car did key reprogram and the car still no start i can't seem to find scamatic to see if park nutral switch is the problem or ignition switch please help if u can
@@AutoRepairTips757 Is it reccomended to take off the ECM and ABS connector and spray with contact cleaner? My problem with 2008 Impala LT is the 40AMP starter fuse keeps blowing. Never engages starter. I've cahnged battery, relay and multiple fuses. Wondering if this calls for starter replacement or is possible other wires are shorting. I can't believe a full 700CCA surge would be shorting and not making any sounds/crackles etc. I suspect a lower amp circuit somewhere. Maybe need to change the positive battery cable assembly? Man I am stumped.
Hello Mr. Pete! Can you spare some advice please. I just changed spark plugs on my sister’s 2017 Impala V6 saved her more than a $1,000. But now a week later her starter is in-op. I didn’t disconnect the battery when changing the plugs, never turned on the ignition until after installation. Car ran fine for a week. Is there any way my changing her plugs could have caused starter circuit failure?
@@AutoRepairTips757 Thank you for that moral support! I am in San Diego, my sister and her Impala are in Los Angeles. She had her friends check, the starter "clicks", it would start once or twice and then stopped cranking, and just clicked. 87K miles, I might just drive up there put a new starter and relay on anyway (WAI Global new is about $90 at Rockauto) If that doesn't work I'm dependent upon a certified shop for a rebuilt flashed and programmed ECU. I don't have the tools to program an ECU.
How do I check if it is intermittent. Like really bad timing for diagnostic. I've tried new key, new ignition switch, starter went out and has new starter now, replaced crank relay. Sometimes I get the P1682 code. I've messed with the wiring, including grounds others have mentioned, nothing obvious.
Oh amd I mean really intermittent. Mayne once every 3-5 days. Sometimes works by taking key in and out, opening the door, sometimes after just popping the hood, and at times messing with harness in engine compartment.
There are a lot of things associated with the bad ECM whatever your problem is just file the diagnostic procedure, that will lead you in the right direction

Good info - I would have first swapped the relay to confirm that wasn’t the issue.
Crazy that because of 1 bad wire you have to replace the entire computer that runs 100s of other wires. Make it make sense
Wait a minute. It MUST be the computer if the signal is only 6 volts?
I remember the day when the signal to spin the starter motor came when the driver turned the key, not from a complicated interface with a computer.
Lol me too
Thanks for that video, my personal implala had the same problem...
Glad it helped
I have a 09 impala no crank no start! Replaced tumbler and ignition but nothing! We got the starter and pump to come on manually but not with key
Did you get it fixed ? What was the problem ?
Update?
@214deleon4 What was it?
Was the key switch on are off while doing the test?
Do you have to reprogram a Chevy impala 08 computer if you change rack and pinion?
You should do a relearn

they are famous for the plugs going into the pcm not making a good connections. make sure you check them good, also check the one for the abs module.

Most likely it’s coincidental is there any juice going to the starter at all when you go to turn the key?

Hi, what if I get 0v when the switch is on, does that mean I need a new ecm
Not sure what you mean

You're welcome!
