  • How to reset security on a Chevy impala… Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    Attempt to start the engine then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
    Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
    Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
    Try to turn it on.
    Repeat steps two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes

    I have a 2001 that had the same problem you had. The car had problems starting and when it did start, I was able to pull the key out while it was running. Eventually it wouldn't start at all. I think that because of the worn-out cylinder there was security issues preventing the car from starting. I wasn't looking forward to having to replace the key cylinder. Thanks to your 5-minute fix I don't have to. You saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks man.

    Good info. Hopefully this post is still monitored, as I have a question. I have a 2004 Impala that has this issue, but only intermittently. Was yours an intermittent issue or was it dead in the water? Mine did it about 6 months ago and started without further work on the issue after about a half hour.
    It did it for the second time just yesterday. Again, started after 15 minutes or so. Then, this morning, it did it again. It does have the same symptoms as yours-no crank. I crossed it over at the solenoid, and it cranked but didn't start. I was told that was due to the security, and if I'd had someone holding the key in the crank position at the time I was jumping the solenoid over, that it would have started. At any rate, what are the chances of this being the same "fix" for mine? Any input greatly appreciated.

      Ok, so I watched again. If I'm understanding right, you didn't leave the short white wire in the fuse box under the hood, from the 15A fuse to the pin 98 on the relay. Is that correct?
      You ended up taking that back off and ran a wire from the 10A BCM fuse in the interior fuse panel out to the pin 98 on the relay? From the side of the fuse that was powered up when the key was in the on position (not the crank position), and no power when the key was off?
      Or did you leave the short white wire from the 15A to the pin 98, as well? If so, was it powered regardless of key position?
      Again, thanks so much. Very informative.

    • @skipperrussell2025
      @skipperrussell2025 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pin 30 connects to the fusible link. Power to that relay comes through the fusible link. My fusible link smoked the last time I tried to star my car. When you apply voltage to 86 the relay sends power to the solenoid. I'm guessing my solenoid or starter is bad, unless my motor seized up. I'm going to reconnect the fusible link with a fuse and test it. Maybe I'll hear something. I looked at my relay. looks like he's actually jumping 87 & 30. Power goes from pin 87 to the solenoid. I have a dead short between 87 and ground. I believe my solenoid is shorted thus blowing the fusible link. I'll do more testing tomorrow.

    • @Rayspeed1
      @Rayspeed1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I try everything before I found this solution. I jumped pin #98 (top left pin) in the crank relay with a 10amp fuse. Make sure that you use a fuse. This is another way to bypass the security that worked for me . before that I try to bypass the security by putting a resistor between the yellow and black wire at the passlock sensor location at your key switch , it did not work at all. So I definitely recommend to you to try what I did. If you need any help let me know.

      You’re missing the positive that is from your lower left pin, that one supposed to come straight from your battery 12v so check fuses and wire. When you put straight 12v to your top right pin you’re just basically jumping your starter.

    I had that problem not long after we got our '04 Impala new. Took it to the dealership because it was under warranty. Their mechanics could not figure it out after keeping the car for over a week. They had to call Chevrolet corporate to find out what it might be. They had never run into that problem before. It turned out to be the crankshaft position sensor. Once they replaced it, the car fired right up.

      You have to use a fuse that will supply 12v when the switch is on. That way you the relay is not always active so I use the Bcm fuse inside on the driver side that supply 12v when the switch is on. You can temporary use any fuse to see if it will work.

      el pin número 98 en el cranking relay necesita un positivo que no sea permanente si no que nada más tenga un positivo de 12v cuando tengas la llave puesto de “ on “ por eso encontré ese fusible que es del BCM/PCM qué nada más se activa con 12v cuando tengo la llave puesta en “On”. En mi caso no estaba llegando la señal de la computadora con 12 V por eso es que yo tuve que buscar otra forma de qué le lleve 12 V aparecer era porque tenía un problema con el Security en el BCM.
