Of course! Glad to see people use our tools and spread the word in ways we can't Also about the difficulty. Earlier stuff is super easy but once you hit version 3 is really when they ramp it up. I've party wiped multiple times later down the road. Even hosting some of my favorite boss fights in the series. The story has become my favorite in the series as well
@@TheCrawl I only know dragon quest 8 and 11. Is 12 going to be a direct sequel to 11? I know akira doesnt write it but he does art. When you look at dragon ball death means nothing anyone can be wished back. Cause the tree of life is in the game we all know veronica will be brought back. It's my favorite character but I still dont think it will be a cool twist cause it's too obvious that its going to happen.
@@WM-mu8ep Each DQ title is its own contained story similar and is not related to the adventures of the characters from previous titles, similar to Final Fantasy. *With the exception to the DQ 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 -- these two trilogies share the same world/lore but story wise, it's still independent so it's not necessary to learn the story of the previous games unless you're interested in the lore.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea that DQX was free offline for v1! Also, Don’t give up on learning 日本語, it’s such an awesome experience getting to experience the source material in its native language! I’m on about my 5th year of on and off again attempt to learn the language, and it feels like it’s finally starting to click. My goal has always been to play JRPGs in Japanese (starting with ni no kuni), and so that’s exactly what I’m doing this time, while entering each 漢字 I come across into Anki, and it’s been really successful! If you’re really finding DQX compelling you should try to pick up the language while playing! If your interested the following two games have furigana, and the third has both furigana & is fully voiced: ni no kuni, yokai watch, DQXI
You chose a great time to try the game! The tools you mentioned are so much better than anything we've had beforehand. I just tried them out for the first time tonight, after having played v1-v3 via other means over the past four years.
Second comment but just a couple of things. Late game bosses have attacks that can only be jumped over so moving around in battle gets more important. Also getting cheered on during battle powers you up, so if someone cheered you on say thank you 😊
It's amazing. I'm so happy, impressed, and grateful. I'm REALLY enjoying it and don't feel like I'm losing a lot. Before with Switch/Google Translate was not as good in my opinion, PC items work well. Again - Thank you all your efforts on this those behind the scenes!
Reminds me of how people used to have to play Phantasy Star Online 2. FINALLY PSO2 got localized. Here's to hoping that DQX will eventually get one too.
I've been playing for a few weeks now a ton, almost beat 1.0 but have doing a ton of the areas longer 5 part sidequests and can't believe how long they are and how much content is packed into 1.0, even with the so-so translation it's amazing and I am grasping most the story. The main thing to keep in mind is relationships are usually the opposite of what is translated (mother, father, sister, brother, etc) and tenses are messed up but I don't even care, having the most fun I have had gaming in who knows how long, I can't get enough of it. It's almost to the point where it's addicting and it is all I want to do for now because it is over 100 outside lol.. anyways, I recommend anyone try this out who want's to, it's a bit tricky at first but it's not that hard overall.
Great video man. Hope you try out the rest of version 1 at least. That being said, the game gets a lot better going into version 2 and it's not mainly because of the story. The environments are really beautiful in this game and I love exploring them while doing the story. However, version 1 was kind of a drag since I played back in 2014 when google translate on the phone or clarity, ahkmon etc. wasn't a thing. Just skipped all the dialogue. Not to mention, the AI I hired were all end game and just smashed the content for me. I had a hard time committing to this game and it took a couple years of playing on and off to really get my bearings and make my way to end game. I think one of my favorite things about this game is the AI system and how people I don't even know are posting screenshots on twitter of their adventures with me in their party as AI and people come up to me in game and tell me how they love my AI. It really is a confidence booster and makes me feel good. I do hope you and many others get to a point in DQX where you meet some japanese players that speak english. I know that sounds weird, but they are very curious about us too and some really want the game localized as well. They want to experience a new culture in DQX, so I've heard. The majority of the JP playerbase is full of kind hearted people and they are very forgiving and nice. I call a lot of them my friend, even if they can barely speak english. Even the english players are nice, and haven't run into many toxic people. This is the one MMO where I can play in peace without people judging me or saying you aren't good enough to play with them. In conclusion, I'm a long time veteran and have done/beaten 95% of the the game's content and I'm pretty much numb to the language barrier at this point; I'd do it all over again. I am a bit hesitant to try out clarity for the moment since it could be risky to your account status, but ahkmon has been a blessing and really helped me enjoy the game a bit more. Once again, great video and good luck on the rest of your DQX experience ^^ Also, let me know if you ever need help in game! -Remina レミーナ
That all sounds so good! It makes me excited to play more. Especially what you say about it feeling like a relaxing, feel-good time. I struggle with even FFXIV sometimes, and that community is also very nice. But even in my limited experience with DQ10 and the English players, I find it so refreshing! Thanks for sharing :D
@@TheCrawl Yeah, for sure! :) There actually has been a FFXI and FFXIV crossover event in the past that came with stuff like a chocobo statue for your house garden etc.
Wow look there I am! I love this review you did it has charm to it that I just can't seem to get across in my videos 😅 Although I can definitely help you with experiencing more of the game if you'd like, there's a lot of fun that you just truly haven't encountered yet!
I'm so happy there are others like me out there, being stubborn and refusing to accept a gap in the mainline series 😂 Tell me I can't do something, or make it difficult for me to do so...and this is what happens 😂
I never played this, and it looks like a better Dragon Quest IX, while it looked like it inspired the free form battle in DQXI. There is the Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road Victory, that is also in Japanese. I saw an app that translate from taking pictures, just to read the card info and effects. I hope I find something better. Edit: Oddly, FFX/2 HD remaster(Japanese version) actually has English voice overs and subtitles. I only ever got it to have both games on the cartridge on the switch.
Yeah I definitely agree that IX seemed like a rough draft for X. Honestly I like IX, but X had so many neat ideas that I hope carry over to DQXII and beyond.
in advance, if you still play this on switch, if you hold the b button on the pro controller (or whatever you use as a controller) there's an entire quick menu for responses and what not. if you know at least hiragana or katakana should be able to reply back. either that or you memoried what emote your character does when you press one
Im just a Kingdom Hearts \ final fantasy fan boy trying to get into Dragon Quest ive only PLAYED DQ heroes II . so far a small amount of DQ VIII in the 3DS
VIII is really good! If you like that game, definitely play XI. Both are often considered the best places to start and imo XI is maybe my favorite in the whole series. I think III is also great, but I would probably wait for the HD 2D remake of that one. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the games!
Could someone explain me, how the turn based combat works in this game. Are you just on a timer. Because if I understand correctly, you don't need to wait for the other party members?
I’m late but I wish to know if you can play the full game or if there is a way to do so on Switch? Like do I need to pay a subscription with yen or something?
Yeah, you can play the full game on Switch! Check the guides in the description, there should be instructions on how to purchase yen to pay for the full game.
Hows the player base? Do you at least see a bunch players running around doing their own thing. if the game feels dead/empty, it will kinda suck. is it crossplay?
I think it has more to do with Dragon Quest's lower popularity outside of Japan, especially at the time. Dragon Quest 11 was really the first game to do well in North America.
Nope not worth playing if you can’t read Japanese I bought it got stuck earned one trophy 🏆 I won’t be able to play until the English version gets released
I see. Fwiw you can download it directly from Square Enix for free. There's also a free trial version available on all the Japanese storefronts for consoles that includes everything up to the first expansions. Definitely don't need to buy to play.
Actually, these days, the solution is to just use the auto-translate tools since they have progressed a lot since this video and make the game entirely playable in English :)
This is the most dumbest dragon quest game I’ve ever purchased you can’t play it on your American or any other region accounts besides Japan it wants you to register to a Japanese square enix account that you just can’t read or complete not worth to buy save your money I don’t see any of the other dragon quest games doing that only X
This video convinced me to go play dragon quest 10 thank you for that I’m having a blast with it and I don’t play MMORPGS I just wish it was released worldwide because I’m stumbling through it even with guides and Google translate I’m not getting the full experience plus it doesn’t help being dyslexic
