  • Caer Caradoc is found some 10 miles south of Shrewsbury and in close proximity of Church Stretton. For those travelling south on the A49 it has a dominating position in the landscape. The area is very popular with ramblers
The summit is crowned by an Ancient British Iron Age or late Bronze Age hill fort. At the summit there is a 360 degree vista of all the hills for miles around to be seen. its summit is at 1,506 feet and it apparently rates as a 'Marilyn'!!! (something to do with its prominence I believe - see link below)
I would think it perhaps best (or easiest) ascended from near Willstone in the east. There is a not too difficult route to the top via a zig-zagging path. Alternatively, you could head towards Little Caradoc Hill and ascend from there. It's quite a bit stiffer but you can at least admire the views northwards as you regain your breath!
MUSIC IS BY ALYTH McCORMACK, SONG " THE LAMBS ON THE GREEN HILLS"

Best thing is to stay in ch. Stretton, (beautiful querky little market town in the gap between caradoc and long mynd) from it, you see caradoc on one side of the stretton gap, along with the lawley etc and the long mynd on the other. You really feel as if you are staying in a miniature swiss valley, from which you can strike out either side and get great walks-climbs.
