SHROPSHIRE HILLS Hope Bowdler Hill
As near as, Hope Bowdler Hill is out of sight of Church Stretton, and for most ramblers out of mind - almost un-noticed. This really is a lovely hill which deserves exploring
Before setting off and for those parking by Hope Bowdler’s church, it might be appreciated how attractive the church is. Its roof has lines of tiles of two contrasting colours. The effect has faded a little over the years, but standing back a little you will espy Hope Bowdler Hill just beyond
Taking the most direct route and by walking alongside a stream you will soon notice the Gaer Stone before you on your RHS. This makes for some fine photographs when you reach it
From the Gaer Stone you will have views south-easterly towards Wenlock Edge and beyond it the Brown and Titterstone Clee Hills. You’ll also easily pick out the village from where you started. Moving clockwise, Hazler Hill (with it’s radio mask) is seen and then Church Stretton with The Long Mynd beyond it
After enjoying the extensive views and moving northwards, Caer Caradoc is seen ahead of you on your LHS. This is easy rambling countryside and in Spring you are likely to hear Skylarks singing joyously on the wing. I heard a Cuckoo on this particular visit - it was around a mile away, towards Cardington
There are three high points along Hope Bowdler Hill (a fourth just off to the east is much lower). This walk will naturally lead you onto Willstone Hill. You will also notice The Lawley further north of Caer Caradoc and in the distance (over to your RHS) The Wrekin can be seen
This walk started with the Gaer Stone and here it ends with Willstone Hill’s Battle Stones. The ground drops away more dramatically here

THE LONG MYND Small Batch, leading to Callow, Grindle and Round Hill
มุมมอง 4183 ปีที่แล้ว
To my mind this is perhaps the nicest walk that could be found upon the Long Mynd (there are by the way, other contenders!) After turning away from the entrance to Ashes Hollow you are quickly into Small Batch. You immediately start to ascend along its southern flank. Only for a short stretch at the beginning, and another stretch around the half-way mark offer anything stiffer than an easy stro...
NATURE Spring Lambs

After a long, cold dark Winter - Spring! Its arrival is marked with bluebells daffodils and wild garlic ...... and lambs! They like sleeping, having a feed and walking around with mum, and should you be lucky running and jumping around like as though they've lost their marbles These lambs were filmed almost entirely in the Shropshire Hills - Tony Further information: www.countrysideonline.co.uk...
BORDERLANDS Criggion. The Breiddens
มุมมอง 4023 ปีที่แล้ว
More correctly this is Breidden Hill, although most everyone who knows of the hill call it Criggion. This is likely because it is part of a chain of five adjoining hills along the English/Welsh border which are called The Breiddens. The two other main hills are Middletown Hill and Moel-y-Gest and are impossible not to notice as you travel between Shrewsbury and Welshpool on the main road Most o...
SHROPSHIRE HILLS Huglith Hill, near Pulverbatch
มุมมอง 1373 ปีที่แล้ว
1 mile WSW from Pulverbatch, Huglith is a fine hill easily surmounted in 5 minutes after walking that 1 mile. There is easy parking at Castle Pulverbatch (Pulverbatch) and this historic site is worthy of taking a look at There are footpaths across the fields but I would prefer the stroll along the (dirt track) lane for the outward trip. Once you've reached the lane's highest point you will noti...
THE WELSH SEASIDE Aberaeron
มุมมอง 3.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Like most Welsh coastal towns Aberaeron has a rather small population - 1422 at the last count. Perhaps a little euphemistically the x2 beaches are described as 'storm beaches'. Being pebbly they are not its greatest asset. That is without doubt its secluded harbour which looks glorious on a sunny day. Alas on the visits I've made I've not actually seen any fishing boats although there are lobs...
SHROPSHIRE HILLS Cefn Gunthly & Heath Mynd, nr Bishop's Castle
มุมมอง 4014 ปีที่แล้ว
Two very Welsh-sounding names, for two very English hills. To be fair they are right up against the Welsh border and Shropshire has plenty of other Welsh-sounding hills and hamlets. Rarely visited, you are most likely to notice Heath Mynd from passing northwards along the road from Bishop’s Castle They are both easily assailed together in an morning or afternoon, and you might as well take a ma...
SHROPSHIRE Heath Chapel, under Brown Clee Hill
มุมมอง 2424 ปีที่แล้ว
A Norman chapel dating back to mid 12th century, Heath Chapel is as austere and simplistic as can be. It lies on the northern slopes of Brown Clee Hill between Diddlebury and Abdon Burf, and nearby to Nordy Bank No services take place there seeing as like with other hamlets the area has long since been de-populated, thought to be due possibly to the bubonic plague of 1320. Happily public access...
THE WELSH SEASIDE Tywyn
มุมมอง 8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The town of Tywyn has a population of around 3250. Being so close to Aberdovey it is likely that many people heading to the coast would decide to end their journey there. Certainly, the town centre itself is not of any great beauty and won’t be winning prizes for such; but as a seaside resort it is well worth making a visit for as there is a fine beach to be enjoyed, alongside the possibility o...

About 2 1/2 miles east of Ffestiniog, Llyn Morwynion is a beautiful lake (reservoir, actually) which being out of view is passed nearby from all those travelling from Bala towards Ffestiniog. TRAINS The Power of the 56's

Listed below is a list of the trains, the date and the location All the footage is of Colas traffic with Class 56 locomotives being used on these occasions. Almost all of the film (bar one train of vans from Llanwern) concerns the timber traffic that Colas was hauling from Carlisle and Ribblehead in the north, and Baglan Bay and Teigngrace in the south. SHROPSHIRE Flounders' Folly
มุมมอง 2564 ปีที่แล้ว
Usually open on the last Sunday of every month (see www.floundersfolly.org.uk/) It is possible to see if the tower is open from some distance for those with good eyesight, for the hosts will post a St George’s flag for when they are in attendance Of note for those using an OS map, the most direct route from the car park is now heavily overgrown and just about impassable - it would be very steep...
WALES Castell Dinas Bran, Llangollen 3/4
มุมมอง 5614 ปีที่แล้ว
Castell Dinas Bran lies barely a mile to the NE of Llangollen. Some people will walk from there, although it’s a fair hike for those simply trying this walking lark out. An easier way is to make your way to Panorama Walk - an open single tracked road with great views to both the castle just beside it, the Vale of Llangollen and Trevor Rocks The ascent from Panorama Walk is easily done in barely...
WALES Trevor Rocks, Llangollen 4/4
มุมมอง 5274 ปีที่แล้ว
Trevor Rocks are approximately 1 mile NE of Llangollen. They lie on the southern edge of Eglwyseg Mountain and just beyond the nearby Castell Dinas Bran. From the castle area you should walk eastwards along the Panorama Walk (a road) until you find a pretty obvious point to get up upon Trevor Rocks As the name might suggest, the cliffs thereupon are very popular with rock climbers. Whilst they ...

It should also be noted that this Yatton shouldn’t be mixed up with the other Yatton in the SE of the county At Leintwardine there is the confluence of the Rivers Clun and Teme - thereafter becoming the River Teme as it heads off towards the very impressive weir at Bromfield and on to Lu...

Nice 🙂👍
Nice
Thanks! It's off the beaten track that there are few people who would know about it, never mind visit it Tony
@swiftymorgan5064 👍🙂
I live in Italy now, but my heart is always in Wales. Currently experiencing an intense bout of homesickness for the Old Country, so these videos are wonderful enjoyment. Well done for not putting annoying music on it as so many do, Your camerawork is tasteful and your choice of shots is excellent. I have subscribed and I'll be bingeing on rhe rest of your output. Well done and thank you.
Thanks Colin - mind, Italy doesn't sound too bad, does it? As a 'landlubber' I too can appreciate the Welsh coastline. I must try and get down to Pembrokeshire next time - Tony
Super video, and well done for not putting irritating music on it. The roaring Welsh wind is a fitting sound track indeed. Thank you
Thanks Colin. Waves and gulls - great! It can get a bit tricky though, trying to dumb down the noises that you don't wish to have - Tony
Amazing bird , particularly the Pacific swift . They are routine visitor here in Java , Indonesia.
Brilliant wee chapel. Well worth a visit
Thanks Stan! A bit up in the hills, but certainly worth a visit I also went to nearby Nordy Bank Hill Fort that day, so I got my 'moneys-worth'
I keep returning to this video ... the most captivating one for me (I have been to Clun a few times and you captured it as I remembered it).
Thanks Mat. It's a lovely place to visit I hope the 'Clun Green Man' Festival goes ahead next year - there's been a couple cancelled in the last few years - Tony
@@swiftymorgan5064 Keep the good work up ! And thanks again.
Why didn't you continue along the ridge, there is so much more to see than just the small section shown. Sorry to sound like a grump but I have really good memories of walking the length from Worlds end over Dinas Bran as a family and now arthritis has stopped me at 54 y.o. I really miss walking. Enjoy your knees while your able to. Thank you for the video.
Beautiful country, thank you!
Nice vid at 10:36 saw someone sailing a mirror dingy my Dad built one in the 70s .# 466993 i think was the number .
How fast? Thank you.
Will struggle to maintain a speed of 45 mph (72.42 km/h), possibly 50 mph (80.46 km/h) On the plus side it handles perfectly and is very nimble
@@swiftymorgan5064 Thank you.
I spent all my Summer holidays in Borth every year when i was growing up. As a family in the 70's we stayed every year in the same cottage just up on the little hill opposite the boat yard. We knew the old lady who lived in the next cottage, she had a TV & we didn't so she'd let us go round, she had a seagull called Peg who she rescued & nursed back to health. Us kids would sit on the grass at the front of the cottage (which is now privately owned) & wave at the passengers on the train going across the bridge above the river. We'd walk into Borth main street every day & get our milk from some place we passed by on our way there. We stopped going some time in the 80's, but still went back from time to time on day trips. Still love the place, but haven't been for years now. My parents are both 81 this year, how time flies ❤
brilliant ! Thx
Sandra has sadly since passed away.
Just a beautiful video. Great lighting, sound, and visuals. I've got a blue one and I love riding it.
Thanks for that! Great bike for what it is - and no flippin' clutch lever to pester with
nice vid
Thank you, best video on Heath Chapel yet. I have plans to visit it this August - many thanks for this preview.
Thanks for that! A bit out of the way, but definitely worth taking a look at
I seem to remember the pub was called the sun, I don't suppose it even exists anymore
This was a couple of years ago, but there was a shot of it with its grand pub sign around the 7:46 mark in the video I imagine it's still there, but as I've only passed through more recently, my eyes were firmly on the road and so couldn't say with any authority, particularly with circumstances as they are - Tony
Lovely walk! Thanks for sharing! 😊😊👍👍
Excellent.
Had a wonderful trip this spring to Corndon Hill Lan Fawr Hill. Todleth and Roundton Hill. Beautiful area hardly anyone around had the views all to myself. Lovely video thank you
That's a good walk if all done in a day! And great that someone else knows of Roundton Hill and Todleth Hill, as they are real gems too Thans, Tony
I did two separate walks. We walked Corndon Hill and Lan Fawr and when we got home. We looked up another walk in that area and Todleth and Roundton came up. Beautiful hills all to ourselves. I recommend that area to everyone now its so quiet and you have the hills all to yourself amazing
Loved it. Thank you
Lovely village to visit the cafe in the old post office does cracking food
This is a slideshow, not a video...
It's an excerpt from a BBC tv programme actually. You plank! Why not put something up yourself, rather than moaning all the time

i was born at the twitchen a then moved to st georges pl in clun i,m now over 90 so these photos are very dear to me thank you who ever you are
That was a brill video thanks Swifty. One of the best on here, No stupid music could hear the birds singing, the sheep & little lambs, gurgling water and the woo woo of my favourite a steam train. We go up the Horse Shoe pass to the Ponderosa when the weather is good on a Sunday. On the motor bike of course cause Sunday is bikers day up there. Good to see the surrounding countryside. Thanks again.
Thanks Helen. I would occasionally put some music on my early videos, but you're right, the birds make a much better sound - Tony
The sound of the carriages rolling on the tracks, such a beautiful sound very rarely heard today on modern trains
Thanks Sarah. It would be nice to see some steam trains (or any 'special' trains) run over the line, but alas none for the last few years. I believe it is discouraged on condition of the track not being v good -Tony
Beautiful capture
Thanks Wade. Easier when there's some great countryside to capture - Tony
Sadly numbers still in decline have not seen many this year. However there is an abandoned schoolhouse in the hills near here and the House Martins return every year, its heartwarming to see them.
..there's a baby swift in our home from the past week or above. Writing this from Hyderabad, India, Asia. We found the bird on 15th of May, (summer) on the stairs of our apartment. It was a small bird (baby I suppose). We gave it water through a dropper. In fact we didn't even know what bird it was and only after some googling we found it was a swift. The first two days we fed it only water at times. It was little energised. Eben After learning that it eats insects,we could not provide it because we had no insects here. And moreover we weren't sure if it can digest Coz babies are usually Fed by mothers partially digested food. We have been giving it some grains of boiled rice and boiled egg white. I even gave it black ants from our balcony which were about 7mm It always seems hungry, whenever we pass beside it, it comes closer to us and opens mouth. Any suggestions on what to feed it? Can I feed live worms(if so what should be the size of the worm) in how many days will it be able to fly. Anyone who had any idea can reply.
One of my favourite animals ❤

Thanks for that! Have to say that for what used to be promoted as a 'Scenic Railway' they have let the lineside vegetation get somewhat out of hand Whisper it quietly, but the Cambrian might be a better choice these days (ouch!)
Of all the times I've been to Blackrock Sands and walked in the caves, I've never been to the top of the rock to see that incredible view! Thankyou for sharing this.
Thanks for that. I'd seen an old photo looking NW from the top and it looked interesting. You could see where they had placed Black Rock railway station/halt - it was nowhere near the place, of course!
beautifully filmed - thank you.
I love the simplicity of your videos Swifty. And the way you allow just the sounds of nature and life ...What a beautiful selection of churches. I am working my way through your catalogue. Regards from Cornwall.
