My mom when she passed away was skin and bones and very pale. At the viewing she was very bloated and the makeup that was applied to her face wasn't blended very well, but I was to distraught to care. I looked at it in a positive way. Her skin was full of color and she didn't look like skin and bones. Her body have been ravaged by cancer. My mom had wanted some Fendi perfume. I wasn't able to find it for her, for Christmas. A few days after she passed away. I went to a local store in town and across from the store a yellow box stood out and I had to go look at it. I went toward the box and it was a box of Fendi perfume. The day of her viewing I drenched a cotton ball with Fendi perfume and placed it inside a plastic bag and carried it with me. I went up to her and I took the cotton ball and I placed some the perfume on her wrist. I said to my mom here's the perfume I promised you Mom. A few days after the viewing I swear that I felt a slight breeze go past me like someome was walking by me and then a scent of the Fendi perfume was in the air.

My grandma came to me one day while I was taking a nap. She passed away in 2013 but in the dream she was wearing the dress we buried her in and she was telling me how she didn’t want to leave us but had no choice. Reason why I felt so much guilt was because the night before she passed I was going to go visit her at hospice but I since I just got off work and was tired, I thought I’d go visit her the next day. She passed away the following morning and i never got to see her again. But in the dream I cried so hard and it felt so damn real. I miss her and I think of her ever single day.

Actually I must admit that I never stopped to think about this side of the funeral industry. Love your videos! So happy to see more open death talk from professionals!
My best friend's father died suddenly a few years back and she had him cremated. I told her it was OK to open the urn, it wasn't weird or inappropriate, and what she should probably expect to find. She called me because she was concerned and confused that other than ashes, small bone fragments, and ID chip there was also 49 cents of loose change. I told her it was a good thing because it meant that the crematory was honest and respectful. I also mentioned that it was the most appropriate thing I could think of because her father never had a round number of cash nor did he ever give her a 5, 10, or 20 for something for herself. If he did, he made us go down to the store and buy a gallon of milk then he would give her the odd numbered change to go see a movie. She was always embarrassed about that when we were younger. Now, she thinks of it as something very special that only she and her father shared and always will.
I'm grateful to the crematory staff for keeping that change with the ashes rather than giving it to her seperately. I think it helped her process some of her grief.

    • @KtO680
      @KtO680 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TheGraveWoman Thank you right back. Her father's death was a very brutal process on her as she was left as executor. She never got a moment to grieve for herself and I didn't make it back home to help her in time to stop the funeral home from extorting her, but I did have a talk with them when I arrived to let them know that I can't afford the schooling so I have been working on self-teaching in the mean time and I follow morticians on TH-cam; I'm not going to allow them to continue doing that to her because she is young and inexperienced.
Honestly, I hesitated to mention that memory to her but my Death Doula training told me to tell her and take it from there. After a moment of thinking, she laughed. For the first time in 2 weeks, she smiled and laughed. She said that factor never would have occurred to her. So, every other member of the family took a bit of ashes but she took enough of the change so that she and her dad always have an odd amount of change on them, lol.

This is very informative..... Because every since I was four years old I had a phobia of dead people. I remember just as if it happened yesterday. I was with my mom and we went to the funeral home to view my great grandmother and they had her hair combed up away from her face and it looked real scary to me. At that point in time that's when I began to be terrified of dead people. When my mother died I touched her hand and she felt hard and cold but me touching my mom actually took some of that phobia away from me.....Thank you so much for your love and kindness on this subject!

I helped "lay out", as it was called, my two grandmothers with my mother. It was the old-fashioned way with a bandage under the jaw to the top of the head, coins over the eyes and hands in repose over the chest until rigor mortis was come and gone. Then we dressed them in the clothes they had chosen, cleaned their faces and hands, applied pale nail varnish and a little blusher and lipstick and finally brushed and set their hair. During this process there are quite a lot of bodily noises and excretion of wind and odour.
I was 24 when my first grandmother died and this process was quite disturbing to me. By the time my second grandmother died I had had my children and had been to many family funerals and so I wasn't quite so traumatised. Luckily I think it's unusual now for family to lay out the body. Not nice.

Thanks for an informative video. I will say though, with the animals nibbling on their deceased owners strictly for survival, the animals are always very carefully tested by the local animal control before they are put down. Most are found to never ever be aggressive in any manner. I hope where u are, that they do this and not just assume the pet is bad.

I know so many cat lovers that if they expire they have no one to look in on them regularly to make sure they are all right, or manage the care of their pets on a daily basis to protect resident who lives alone and protect their pets from starvation, as they become trapped in a home with an expired owner. Most times in cases where some one has been murdered, the medical examiner releases the body to the funeral home. It is proper protocol to inform them of any findings but in most cases (which are very rare by the way) we are instructed to discard.

I may have overlooked this but have you found weapons? Though not often we have found guns and switchblades hidden on the deceased. This was not uncommon in the ER.
They are never returned to the family ( Nor are they even acknowledged )but the police with the witness of two professionals and an administrator along with a detailed incident report.
The other strange findings are discovering several of the men and women killed in 9/11 as well as other situations had long ongoing relationships with other people that the spouse was totally unaware of - and as well convoluted relationships happening after 9/11 with the widows and rescue workers. I took care of folks several weeks after that horrible day and saw the devastation in every area of victims and their family lives. I was made aware of one man had a wife in Queens and a wife in NJ - he only knew about them. It became known when they both applied for benefits. Similar with one wife in Staten Island and another also in Staten Island -- not far from one another! Guess you can do this stuff when you make hundreds of thousands to millions and have a wife who just accepts it all with no questions.
    www.nytimes.com/2004/05/23/magazine/one-very-tangled-post-9-11-affair.html
When I was in Little Rock Ark- we had a patient who had been shot in the head over 85 cents in a card game. Along attempt was made to salvage him. During that time we followed protcol to place relatives in a private room. This room had several boxes of tissues and a hospital phone. As the staff was working on the victim more and more family members arrived. Evey 10 to 15 minutes they are given updates. I never used positive statements but more like - we are doing everything we can/ would you like to call your minister or priest to be with you / when this is ll over the MD will be out to meet you and explain everything / would you like our social worker to come down and be with you.. Trying to let them know things are going south.
Finally, the attending neurosurgeon called the code and pronounced him dead. This MD was from England he was excellent as a neurosurgeon but his people skills were always aloof and cold and often just plain blunt.
I went with him as he spoke to the family. He started giving them unnecessary information in a very dry monotone style....talked about what IV solutions were used - the patient's hearts rhythm upon arrival the need for a tube to be put in to help in getting air in his lungs and he listed what were the meds used. I was biting my inner lip thinking oh no - this is over the top for this poor family.
Finally one of the family members said well how is he doing? Very dry in his typical English style he said -- I have been trying to tell you he is no longer living. Followed up with a quick follow up a statement that he was sorry but he had to run along now. These people were one by one taking that in as the anesthesia of shock was starting to set in as they processed it all
Different folks and family systems grieve in different ways. This family in their pain and shock were extremely emotional. Besides the tears, there seemed to want to out-scream each other as well as passing out one after the other. I told them I will step out and be back shortly and closed the door allowing them to be together as a family. Also that they could see him before they leave and give us some time to get him ready.
One minute after I stepped out I heard not so much expression of grief but anger and rage. Then heard the saying - GET HER - SLAP THAT BITCH - YOU GO, GIRL PULL IT PULL IT OFF!
I yelled over to my charge nurse (Bonnie) to come to here stat !!!! We both went in the room to find two very large women not only on the floor but rolling over each other punching scratching slapping each other - earrings were flying ... as well as weaves. To say the least, it was a hot mess. Bonnie my supervisor professional at all times started in her meek gentle voice - that she knows they are in pain but the ER can not have this. I really did not think anyone heard her as the cheering and yelling that was going on.
Finally, I said in a loud voice-BONNIE I CALLED AND THE POLICE WILL BE HEAR ANY MOMENT !!! Everything came to a complete stop immediately !! Of course, I did not call ht the police ... but they did not know that.
Hospital security was there but they are bound by policy not to touch a visitor and use verbal techniques to squelch outburst. GRRRR
Well, come to find out the patient was newly married and along with the crowds of family coming in it was discovered that he had a girlfriend who thought she should be there!!!
We denied the family to be with the deceased as a matter of safety/explained that they could see him when they went to the funeral home to make arrangements ( Sometimes white lies are not so bad lol) We had enough now let the funeral folks deal with this mess and they left soon.
I made sure to say goodbye to his boys' mom and dad as well as his shaken grandparents. I intentionally ignored the wife and girlfriend not obvious just quiet avoidance. I then went to the office to fill out documentation of the entire incident. Got some more boxes of tissues for the private family room which needed to be restocked and straightened up. I looked up and lo and behold there were the new widow and girlfriend of the deceased walking out crying but clearly supporting each other saying accolades of what a good man the deceased was !!!! There just a few minutes ago they were rolling around on the floor in the fight of their lives ...now walking out holding each other up and comforting each other. All I could think was I wonder if this young man could see this who scenario and who would he be rooting for !!!!!
    Sometimes you got to laugh.
Two times in my career I have found considerable amounts of money. I was doing post mortem care for an extremely obese woman who had a sudden death event. There were two of us trying to place and wrap her in a shroud. We turned her over and when turned back found many 100 dollar bills. Had no idea where they came from. Turned her over to the other side and when turned back had more money in large denominations. Then it hit me where the money was coming from ...I lifted up her right breast and there were even more rolls of money tucked in the folds of skin- the same on the right breast. These stayed in place during a considerable period of resuscitation - aggressive CPR/defibrillations and transport from her place to the ambulance to the ER. The thought of the saying -- pennies from heaven -- and I had to contain my laughter as I was notifying the admin and nursing supervisor. Who came counted and took the monies. So a total of 4 witnesses were present and signed the incident form. I did not know the follow up of which of her many children the money was given to. Grateful for that as families/money and death can get very messy. I try to live my not my circus, not my monkies.
The second time was when a homeless man was brought into the ER and quickly deteriorated and expired.
Once again doing post mortem care we found in his pockets/socks and underwear rolls of money. I remember this poor soul looking wasted and gaunt wondering how he could have used that money to eat. Sad he died a rich hungry man.I do not remember the exact amount but it was way over 10000 dollars. It was cold out and his coat was thin -- this poor soul died cold and hungry. So very sad.
I apologize for the length but you helped me process some deep memories that I think were hidden deep. Thank you.

Comment section, comic section, same thing! I just found you and find your presentation delightful. Subject matter maybe morbid to some , but, I find it fascinating. I subbed. Do you have any advice on body donation for dissection at university? I've resigned myself to the fact, that this will be the only way I'll ever go to college. Seriously, though, I'm serious. I've no family that would want to deal with my carcass. Seems like a win, win. Thx. 💌

Hi Lisa. Thank you so much for watching. I will be doing a video on body donation really soon. In the meantime if I were you I would look into contacting local medical schools and anatomical labs. What state are you located? Perhaps I can help. I have a few connections her in Georgia.

Silly question which I'm sure has an obvious answer lol. But why do they put the animal down after? 🤔 Love your videos! You are so sweet and down to earth 🤗❤️

    • @TheGraveWoman
      @TheGraveWoman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Rachael Hoffert Hi Rachael✋🏾!!! So not a silly question but to answer it; the put the animal down because it has acquired a taste for human flesh and could become violent or a danger to other humans it comes in contact with. It now has a taste for blood so to speak! This does not ALWAYS happen but does in most cases. Thank you soooo much for watching, your support and for the kind compliment 🥰🥰🥰!
