    STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
    NO NONSENSE
NON BIAS review of this keyboard.
The audio is intentionally coming straight from my camera so you can hear what this board feels like and what to expect when you get it out of the box.
I freaking LOVE THIS THING! Best choice!
Let me know what you think in the comments!
The MODX+ or as it's properly pronounced
    "Moe Dee Ex"
Im sorry I'm having trouble with that one but I'll correct myself soon enough.
Wow, what can I say. Well initially I had set my hopes pretty low for this keyboard or should I say "keybed" given my reading endless forums of people complaining about "clacky keys" and "bad action. Let me say first and foremost that I cannot speak for them and their experience with the MODX (version 1). I just resigned myself to the fact that if I bought this keyboard I would have to use it as a sound module only.
    How wrong I was.
This keybed feels AMAZING to me!
Infact everything on the MODX+ feels solid and tight, right down to the volume knob. So there Ive said it.
I wanted this unboxing and review to really drive home the reality of owning the MODX+ in 2023 and to answer what everyone wants to know about it (ie build quality and keybed) because NOBODY is talking about it! Not sure why.
Ok thanks for reading and if you have any comments or questions please let me know in the comment section. Remember to like subscribe and share this video if you or someone you know is interested in buying a MODX+. I really hope this review has helped anyone with concerns about buying. I highly recommend the Yamaha MODX+ for your next keyboard in 2023!

Good afternoon, I actually went into guitar center for a cheaper Yamaha piano keyboard but it was out of stock. The salesman recommended the MODX to me sold me on the specs and price point being $500.00 more I agreed. Got home and started doing diligence on the board. The TH-cam reviews struck fear in me regarding the keybed. My new keyboard purchase must be semi weighted keys. The video reviews most said something horrible about the modx keybed. But I kept my cool and the next week when I picked it up and unboxed it I thought Yamaha must have upgraded the current production of this model! Moral to this story don’t let someone else send you off causing you to decide not to check thing out for yourself. I love my MODX 8 and I’m happy for every one of you who decided to purchase it as well. Enjoy Family!!!

Agreed 100%. Your are right. One simply cannot believe reviews and form an opinion. Im so glad yours turned out to be a good action! I agree I think the action on this new model is fantastic! There is nothing worse than spending hard-earned dollars on bad products so its looking hopeful that Yamaha is listening to people on this thing. Many thanks!

The 88-keys MODX has not the same keybed as the other two models. Maybe the comments you refer to do not refer to the MODX8.
MODX7 has a keybed that is clearly not the same quality as for example on the Motif XF8 and with slightly narrower keys, but this can be tolerated taking the lightweight design and the better price into account. The not durable surface coating of the case is more annoying to me.

I've had my MODX6 for 4 1/2 years. I have zero complaints with the keybed. Nothing has changed with the keybeds in the MODX+. The whole thing of people complaining about the keybeds is just blown out of proportion. When your probably the best selling keyboard on the market, people are going to complain out of jealously. That's not to say it's one of the greatest keybeds. It certainly isn't, but it's far better than many say.
I actually switched from my main keyboard being a Korg with premium keybed to the MODX6, and my playing is unaffected. Sure the Korg feels nicer, but if it doesn't affect my playing and doesn't feel like a toy, I'm fine with it. The MODX does not feel like a toy.
I have 14 keyboards in my collection from Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Kuzweil and others. Many of the flagship premium keybed variety in every key size avaiable from 25 to 88 with piano feel. Of them, the MODX6 is my favorite keyboard. So portable and compact, yet very powerful and so many good sound collections available for it I can just load in.

Why would you choose Modx over Kurzweil? I consider Modx vs PC4.

    • @classicarcadeamusementpark4242
      @classicarcadeamusementpark4242 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@sharingmatters One big reason would be the sound libraries. There are just tons of great sound collections made for the MODX. It can read sounds from the Montage, entire MOTIF series, and 1980s DX-7 series.
And for those people like me that are in tribute bands or cover bands, there are lots of famous sounds people have made already developed that work on the MODX.
Not to say the PC4 isn't good. To add further for me personally, I prefer the traditional standard 61 key format. I don't believe Kurzweil offers their latest synths as 61 key synths.

It's an 76-note keyboard and he could hold it in one hand. I have a MODX 6 (and yes, it's "Moe-Dee-X") and it's as light as an acoustic guitar. Yet, sound and build quality is superb. No, it's not a Montage. It's 90% of a Montage for 40% of the money. I had a Montage 7 and bought the MODX for playing out. I soon realized the Montage was now, for me, redundant. So, I sold it.

I find interesting the different product line choices in features and differentiation between Yamaha, Roland, Korg, and Kurzweil, particularly in this mid-range priced "workstation" segment. For me it is important to capture a FULL list of how important ALL possible features/capabilities are then weight each product on those. For example, aftertouch may be very important to you personally for synth patches (and of no value to another) in which case Kurzweil would be the only option. After looking at such a list something like the new Yamaha CK might even be a better choice for your situation. In any case not an easy choice to make when looking for this general feature set & price point IMHO.

I agree with you. I have a 6+ and the keybed is fine (I wish I had got a 7 or 8 now). The upgrade of the mod and pitchbend wheels was also important. A few people were having problems with pitch going out of tune on the previous model which, it seems, Yamaha fixed by simply using Montage hardware instead.

I am sorry to rain over your party, but that won't happen. The MODX+ is basically the same as the MONTAGE. And YAMAHA won't add the AN-X to it nor the MODX+. They need to sell the MONTAGE-M now.. It is most probably impossible, anyway. We don't know what MONTAGE-M uses for AN-X, but we know it uses a lots more powerful CPU (with the infamous fan on it). So the MODX+ (I have one also, along a couple MONTAGEs) will be probably stuck in 1.0 firmware forever. And I wish I am wrong!

For example if you can limit some of the lower frequency instruments to the lowest octave, the more mid-range frequency instruments to the middle octaves and so on. Ive had to wrestle with that myself but limiting range is what Ive found to work best. Hope this helps!

@@madness8556 TE recently played the Ryman in Nashville. I brought my 17-year-old grandson, who is a budding guitarist and guitar student. He was rendered speechless by what he saw and heard. I kinda figured he would be.
A lot of folks are trashing the action on the MODX 6 and 7. I don't know what they are expecting for the money. I find it easy to play and consistent across the board. And actually FUN to play like a guitar, to the extent that one can. I am a frustrated guitar player and yes, I fully realize it is not going to sound exactly like Tommy's Maton (especially as played by Tommy!) But a keyboard guy like me can make a reasonable approximation of sounding like a finger-picking guitarist and can have a lot of fun! You have to try as best you can to play it the way a guitar is played. (Hint: don't play block triads and such when playing guitar sounds.) It's a blast to play stuff like "Roundabout" or "Blackbird" (for example) using the many great acoustic guitar samples in the MODX. (And by the way, I love Roland and have had a number of Rolands over the years and have a Fantom 8 right now--but their acoustic guitars don't even come close to what Yamaha provides.) The MODX action is deliberately designed to be light, both to save on the instrument's overall weight and in order to be fast. I think Yamaha achieved a very acceptable balance with this action given the overall goals of making the MODX series both affordable and portable. Sure, you could put the Montage's FSX in it--and you will only make it heavier and more expensive. If you can't stand to play it as it is, spend the extra money and buy a Montage instead of expecting Yamaha to give you a Montage for MODX money.

I knew I didn't want another hammer action because I have my RD-300NX which is superbe but also heavy as heck. One other factor might have been that the 76 is that odd sweet-spot for soloing without having to switch octaves alot for certain applications. I would go for the 8 if I bought another simply for a portable piano and synth

Keybed? Blargh! It's almost like a PSR. All the intermediate keyboards are the same.

I hope they have upgraded the terrible MODX6 keybed.....does anyone know? And does MODX+ have a proper organ yet?

      Keybed's good. Organs...not so much.

I've looked and they don't mention if the whole bed is better for the 6 and 7 vs the 6+ and 7+. They just talk about the mate finish on the flats

A piano player playing organ🤣 I call this "sacrilege". I once saw one at a Hammond... my lord🤢 Have you ever seen such Organs {also pipes) and someone playing it? Sometimes less is more... e.g. show-off by playing with the speed of light. Most pipe organs even don't allow that speed. Why do all YTers do so? I have an assumption 🤔

Sorry to have upset you with my playing sir. Have a nice day.

@@soundacresstudio I am not upset. Only estonished about some people's understanding of "music". I wonder how I reach my subscribers without olympic playing😂 Or without the Yamaha-Way of turning knobs like crazy. In great pipe-organ concerts, players have up to 2 helpers to change registers. That's how I feel, when playing the MODX🤣 With your impressive speed... you're in best imagible company! Did you know, that J. S. Bach had some kind of such a rivalry with Mendelson? Who is the fastest? That's one of the reasons, why Bach composed his light-speed-pieces. "Knowledge, that noone needs."😉

@@hanswurst2490 I used to tune and repair pipe organs all across Australia in 2008 and I agree, they are instruments that cannot (with any real accuracy ) be expressed properly with a simple turning of a knob. However some organs around that time were fitted with updated electronics to allow for discreet switching (ive worked on a few). But even then, they are truly formidable and a true challenge to master. I also agree, speed without purpose is useless.

@@soundacresstudio Wow... your last sentence REALLY impressed me! 👍 Respect🙏... which I have anyway.
You know, I am "nothing"! ... but old😉 I saw many impressive performers on all kind of instruments. E.g. World's famoust drummers in my hometown... producing a TV documentary (over 30yrs ago). "Sick" 😁 Wow!
And as one of the worst piano players (avarage eOrgan player) I am of course impressed by "technique". Perhaps more than the avarage audience, because I know, what's required. But for me "music" is music. If it doesn't touch my heart it can be played however... not interested. Too old for that😉
Nice to hear your expertise. I live in a town, formerly known for their pipe-builders. The last pipe I played was a 4 000-pipes one. Electronic playtable down and far away from the howling wind😉 Switching "scenes" by feet, fast as hell... all comfort and features one can imagine. monster-nasty-hyper-greatest instrument I ever played. What a fun!!! But also very rare such modern ones. Mostly I played old and pretty slow ones, and with wind-limit. One of my first ones (in school) even had a "pedal bellows" (don't know the english word). A friend had to step on them😅 And besides that was a home-organ-sized one (with pipes!) where I had to pump the air via 2 foot pedals. Who ever saw or played such? That's an experience, fun!... that's what fascinates me more than speed😉 Kind regards

@@hanswurst2490Ah yes, the many oddities I'd come across whilst out on tuning and repair expeditions... bellows as big as my car and laced with can-you-believe-it Asbestos in the fabric! (and once when I was repairing a blower type organ I discovered a nest of hornets that had somehow made their way in and constructed an elaborate mud-house inside the Piccolo section (big job that) the deacon of the church had noticed she couldn't quite hear some of the higher registers and sure enough the little buggers had plugged up nearly an octave. Oh once I flattened an entire Contra Bass pipe by it falling from the pipe-loft and spent the better part of that month getting it (round) again with a colleague. Oh the headaches lol. That 4000 pipe organ must have been a gargantuan beauty for sure! That home style organ of yours with the two pedals, they are such a joy to play and can humble even the greatest organists with the endurance required for pumping. I love them! Wonderful machines. I would enjoy seeing a performance of yours, if you have a link please send! Thanks again and kind regards- Josh
