Wundom - Feed The Lions - Official Music Video - Indie Neo Classic Rock Prog 2024
Lyrics
I hear your call beyond the glass
A time has gone by I once knew
Granted things were meant to last
Some ancient promises to you
But Now the time has come to pass
Our seasons crossfade in decay
Whispered warmly in the night
To a crystalline breath in the day
2
Come on down
(Come to me)
Come inside
(Won’t you please)
Warm your soul
(By my side)
By the fire
(When you’re free)
Let the house
(As it is)
Come alive
(Through the mist)
With Shadows
(Walk the path)
Of the night
(That I missed)
Speak the sound
(I am lost)
Of our time
(Always here)
Play a role
(I will not)
Pantomime
(Live in fear)
All around
(See me now)
Read the signs
(Rising sun)
Rake the coals
(When I’ve come)
Feed the lions.
(Turn and run)
3
But I’m Guarding here until the end
Peering outside a window
Waiting for some foe or friend
To make you not feel so alone
You hold the words you long to say
Folded and creased in your heart
Stained with tears and pages frayed.
Some fuel for the fire to start.
4
Every year so much the same
Darker each time though it seems
I’d like to find a way inside
Back to the place in my dreams
If we could melt into the floor
Bleed into the grain of the wood
Then we could stay forever more
And do the things we never could.
This is the new single from my one man band Wundom called Feed The Lions. Not sure if there is an album in the works but we will see.
Thank you all for your support.

Hi Josh I’m with you on this 100% The times I’ve dismantled my equipment and either tried another method or to make more room or other I cannot tell you, so please don’t feel alone. All this messing is not what we want, it’s a great big distraction in what we’re striving to achieve. One of my main issues right now is ROOM. I’ve had to move into a very small room, initially my thoughts were it will never ever work, I’m going to have to downsize so much which I’ve had to. Hence where the 688 comes in somewhat. At least all integrated and no mixer board needed. The main problem was I couldn’t see life without drums. Whether electronic or acoustic, not much less foot print in either really only the kick. So I’ve settled for a very small Yamaha custom hip 4 piece, still taken much of my space but just about manage. I’ve had a few Roland electro kit the last being TDK 17 but I was picky with it, ghost notes and such just not doing it compared to natural hits. I think maybe when your talking the TDK 50 range, then your getting up there with more perfection. It is the perfection that we are seeking right? I think I speak for you on this so much also. One of my dilemmas is working my analog gear along with ITB, routing and stuff. I’ve tried to get things patched so there’s never any re patching of cables, but no such luck. Always re patching this and that. Unless of coarse we live entirely ITB which that isn’t our goal. I agree so much all of this side tracks us from getting things done. Another massive issue for me is what to track first? Or do I track to a click or not. I have a very good ear but, if guitar or keys go down first there can be issues with laying drums down just that split second or two. Try laying drums down first, you just don’t know where you are. So some accompaniment most certainly has to be tracked first, question being click or no click? There’s some of my barriers Josh for discussion 👍

    • @soundacresstudio
      @soundacresstudio 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thanks Jon, its good to learn these struggles aren't just my own particularly when you describe which instrument to track first and how with click or otherwise. Laying a solid foundation like drums can then on occasion restrict the song to where the rhythm ends and not being able to know where one is in that process. Yes that would have to be most arduous of all because on top of tracking the drums first you not only have to keep the time but "imagine" where parts will be laid and drum accordingly if not writing everything down. Cables are also a bother. I'm waiting for the day when interfaces and instruments are all connected wirelessly and without delay haha. So many good points you've made here and of coarse the issue of room and functionality is yet another wrench in the works.

You’re very welcome Josh, it’s nice to know about the history of your songs. I went to see Barclay James Harvest at Sheffield UK when I was around 20yrs old early 70’s, they were on with Gilbert O Sullivan, they were awesome. Oh how I wish I could go back to those magical times and sounds. The members of the band all came from very near to my partner’s place of birth “Lancashire UK” Yes Hymn would be great to cover. I ceased playing live some 10 years ago Josh. I made my living from my music for many years, loved and lived it until I couldn’t keep it up anymore with poor health, but have great memories of many gig’s and venues throughout the UK. The live scene has pretty much gone over here to what it was in the 70’s 80’s 90’s. But hey ho… it most certainly doesn’t stop me from grasping at my original stuff Josh. I’ve been seriously writing originals since 1995 and have quite some stored away. I’ll have to dig some out and let you hear Josh. My mixes aren’t to my today’s standard obviously, but I’m still very fond of them. My philosophy in writing is to“ Always be content with my work, but to never be totally satisfied” That way we’ll always aim higher and want that little bit better next time, kinda makes sense and works for me buddy 😁😁👍👍

@@Tascam688 Thank you Jon, I wish I wish I could have experienced this time. You are so unbelievably lucky. They truly were the best of times for many reasons. I flatly refuse to busk and won’t be caught dead in a pub for the kind of nut-jobs that hang around these days. Jon I would love to hear your early material if there is a chance you would post it. Very wise words with respect to the writing process too. I struggle a lot with perfectionism.

I would love to have a real leslie for my Hammond SKX Pro, but for now I don't really need one because the leslie sim on that is super nice. You can go in and tweak a lot. You can change the mic positions and distances, and choose between a few different Leslie cabs. I was blown away with how in depth their newest built in simulator was. If I do end up getting a leslie, I'm probably going to just get a 2101 Mk.2 since I'm already running out if space in my home studio. The compactness of that unit is nice for lugging to gigs I imagine. I haven't heard much about how good they sound though.

Much appreciated Jon, this song is a kind of ballad I had nagging at me for some time to sit and write and I’m glad it’s finally out of me to be honest. 😂 I’m very glad to know it has brought about a good vibe as well. Barclay James Harvest is one of my favourite groups from the 70’s and I always marvel when listening to the absolute stellar production on their albums. Particularly when listening to “Hymn” from the Down to Earth album or “Ra” from Octoberon album. All their songs are excellent. I’d actually like to cover one of the two just for fun some day. I hear you so much with the dilemma with which and what way to initiate our ideas, to get thing’s started and not loose our musical ideas. Your so right in saying “feeling like wasting our time in doodling away and maybe not capturing important parts that could be used” My thoughts are…as a lone writer with no other input from third parties, this is where, well, my brick wall can show its ugly head from time to time. I love to be self contained solo and being totally in charge like yourself I guess. I think by this token our heads become one big compromise and we can become limited in hitting this so called brick wall, almost confused wondering which way to go. 70yrs old here and love my musical creativity as much the day it all started at the tender age of 13 yrs old. However as we add years on our shoulders, our thoughts seem to become a little more difficult to process and untangle, this can be a hiccup. After all, you are doing a mighty fine job in all what I hear with all your music and your intentions. I can tell your writings, mixes, mastered pieces come from within yourself so original, it is this what is the most importance. Whatever it takes, which ever way it takes, and I guess however long it takes, as long as the finished piece suits your needs, your goal has been achieved. My method of writing may sound very odd to you but I seem to have ok results. That is to have no other influences at all, not wanting my sounds to be like some others. This way my originality will shine through and you will hear one’s self more purely and not be a copycat, it makes big sense. I better end my WAFFLE here and further wish you everything in your superb work Josh John from UK 👍👍

Nice! Reminds me of Pink Floyd. :D I actually sold my Hammond L-122 after FINALLY having found a PERFECT sampled Hammond L-102 (essentially the same organ). I wanted to get rid of my Hammond ten years ago, but the only plugin I could find was a free L-122 plugin and even though I'm sure it's useful to someone, it didn't sound like an actual L-122 at all. Last year, I found a library someone made and it's for free, so I downloaded it, played a chord on my keyboard controller and my jaw dropped onto the floor, haha. "There it is!!" So, I got rid of that massive and heavy machine but kept the Leslie. Even though IK Multimedia's Leslie's damn good, it's still lacking something in my opinion, so what I do now is: I send the L-102 plugin to my Leslie and record it back into my DAW. It's just perfect. :D Oh, I also kept the L-122's spring reverb which someone converted into a little reverb box for me. The plugin does have reverb in built but once again, a digital spring reverb doesn't quite cut it (yet!) and as far as I'm concerned, it's a huge part of the overall Hammond sound as well. The sample library itself...... I can't hear any difference between my (ex)organ and the sampled L-102. He sampled everything. Every drawbar, the percussion, the bass pedals. I think it's on Pianobook.

The true sound of a Leslie can only be heard by mic'ing the space that the Leslie is speaking into. The effect is partly doppler effect and partly a product of the Leslie interacting with the physical space - much like the true sound of a pipe organ.

Can’t beat a real Leslie. I ran an 815 for years. I now have a neo vent 2 and a Lester K. The Neo vent is very close sounding to a Leslie. I prefer a real Leslie. The sound is three dimensional and the sound is thrown out around the room. My 815 was very powerful. It’s only down side was it was very heavy. Simulators are two dimensional sound and in very large clubs we perform at times the simulator is very close sounding to a miked Leslie. Particularly the Neo vent 2. On another subject it is like comparing a real tape echo to digital echoes. I own a few vintage tape echoes and their analogue sound cannot be beaten. On stage I use a Danelectro reel echo which isn’t tape but analogue. It is the closest sounding none tape echo to a real tape echo that I have heard. I own a few digital echoes including Roland Boss but they mainly stay in storage. Brilliant video by the way.

12:19 to 12:24 is just so good. I wonder it is from a song or just an improv.

I’m a guitar player. I’d love to take a 122 to a gig. Try taking a Leslie to a gig.😳😳😳😳🥺🥺🥺🥺😪😪😪😪 The Neo Vent ll, is the best sim pedal made. I use a NUX Roctary.. it’s better than all other Leslie pedals. I really like your sound and what you’ve chosen to play.

Yes, it would be an ordeal having to take a real Leslie to a gig. They are bulky heavy, and sometimes unpredictable. Thank you for the comment.

Mine works and sounds amazing. Having owned a 147 and a 122RV in the past, I find this to be a great Leslie. Would you care to elaborate?

Your comment about tonewoods is interesting ….. they are an all-laminate instrument. Basically, a heavy duty, indestructible plywood box - which is why they were the “weapon of choice” for many touring musicians back in the day, and why so many still survive ! Don’t get me wrong … I have one of that vintage - branded as “ Eston” for the Australian market - and love it.
