Back then there were no on-stage monitors, ear plugs/devices, auto-tune machines, etc. The performers listened to their band/orchestra, timed themselves and sang for real. And no troupe of dancers to hide the fact the 'performer' was actually lip-synching like these days,
This concert was the first ever satellite event in world history. A reported 1.5 BILLION people watched it worldwide! Out of a global population of 3 billion people on earth at the time. Unreal!
More people watched that concert than man's first moon landing no one has ever beaten that he was the best a legend who will forever live on in our hearts Elvis the goat stay safe 😷✌
+Mike Mikesell Exactly! Thanks to rebroadcasting it is now viewed by more then 4 billion people. It is still the most viewed concert or tv programm ever and it shal always be like that
What's even crazier is how record sales weren't a thing, when Elvis got rolling in the '50's. His record sales truly cannot be measured! Greatest in history!
Can you imagine if there was internet when Elvis was around. He was already an international Superstar and never left the country. People had to go to record stores to purchase his records❤❤❤
Mickey Newbury (1940-2002) put those three songs (anthems really) together and he charted pretty well in 1972. But Elvis pulls out all the stops and makes it the definitive classic for himself.
This has always been my favorite while growing up. I always think of my dad. His voice is a powerhouse and I always cry listening to it. His passion, tenderness and genuine God given gift shining so bright.
* * INTERESTING FACT * * A song about American History, and the horror of the civil war. It's actually 3 songs, merged into one: First is Battle Hymn Of The Republic (Yankees), which is still played in churches & military ceremonies to this day, but originally was concerning the Union Army (north)............ then Dixie (Rebels of the south), which has its' roots in the minstrel shows about black life in the south, and often featuring them. There was no racial animus intended back then, it was supposed to have a happy overtone...………...…… and finally All My Trials, a song about a black lady on her deathbed comforting her children that all her troubles will soon be over as she meets her Creator. The song represents all sides of the War, and triumphantly ends with HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ON.
Trilogy was written, or put together, if you will, by Mickey Newbury. Mickey's version was a lot more acoustic. When Elvis heard it, he knew he just had to put it in his repertoire.
Actually, the first song is "Dixieland", from the Southern perspective, the 2nd is: "Battle Hymn of the Republic", from the Northern perspective, and lastly is: "All My Trials" from the perspective of the black community.
A song of Americas struggel to secure these words," we believe these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal " Dixie combined with battle Hym of the republic Abraham Lincoln's favorite song!🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸 don't know if you know! Elvis Presley's Grandmother name was morning white Dove, she was Charokee Indian !❣
That voice that charisma a great human with a golden heart..its been 43 years since his passing and we mis him every day. . I don't understand that there are people that don't like Elvis.. God bless the both of you and thanks for the great video..greetings from belgium
You are a beautiful classy couple! We need hope right now! The division of people used by a political movement is going down in history as a lesson to not be repeated!
Elvis, not only a great entertainer , he was a true humanitarian and extremely humble. I’m enjoying your reaction videos with a bonus that you are a Ravens fan! Maryland girl living in Dallas true to her Baltimore Ravens!
Shawn and Mel you’re thanking people for introducing you to Elvis! I want to THANK YOU for bringing him back! Always loved him, forgot how great he was!
@@ShawnandMel4Life it's photoshopped at Graceland. They have a booth and pictures you can get yourself put in. The one I had done 3 years ago is actually better because I was dressed for it and I watched and said no don't drop his shoulder or cut his legs off. They have boxes you can sit or stand on to fit in the picture. Green screen behind you so I feel silly posing alone but the end result was worth feeling silly. You just have to watch whoever is at the booth because they might get lazy. In the 1 with my granddaughter instead of putting her on a box to raise her up they drug his hand down really low and it really distorted that side of Elvis. Like his arm is gone yet way to long at the same time. Look at me going on. I just love going to Graceland. So much to see and do in Memphis.
Greatings from Brazil!
Shawn, I love to see your face light up spontaneously, in fact, at the same parts where my face is lighting up! Elvis did all his own arrangements, so you can see where he's really getting into the entrance of each set of instruments and/or voices when they come in. And Mel, you DO have a lot of Elvis in you! You're beautiful. I wish I had a jumpsuit like that...it's gorgeous You know, I believe this is why the WHOLE WORLD loved him...because people felt a family kind of relation with him right away. People connected with him on a deep, personal level. If Elvis is looking down, he's enjoying watching you watch him! Godspeed to you both!
The 74 y/o geezer from Kansas again. My wife was fortunate to have seen Elvis live at the MGM Grand in Vegas back in the early 70’s. Elvis was a legend, even before his time. And part of his greatness was of his love and concern for ALL of our people! God bless, and y’all keep on keeping on. And, Mel, Elvis would have loved your outfit too! Ciao!, baby! ❤️ 💕
There was 1.5 billion All over the world seeing this show from Hawaii. Was the first sattelite show in the world. More People saw this than the moon landing
The night this showed a thunderstorm took out the electric and I didn't get to see the show. It has been 40 years since he passed and I still can't enough. He is always in my heart and mind and always will. THE KING FOREVER!
There’s no entertainer to ever exist like the king. Love the reaction on the video guys and you’re right, he’s sold more records than anyone! Well over 1.2 Billion
"American Trilogy" is the national anthem for Elvis fans! When he hits that final "glory, glory, hallelujah," there's never a dry eye. Only Elvis could bring together North and South the way he did in this song, and also include a personal prophecy to his own daughter about his death.
Awesome is not enough he always made you feel so much emotion it always brings me to tears fantastic another 2 from 73 concert is What now my love and You gave me a mountain thank you both stay safe 😷✌👌💖
We LOVE Elvis Presley! We had so much joy watching you guys react to his videos. "American Trilogy" is such a wonderful song & tribute to our great nation. We also suggest "Love Letters," "Walk A Mile In My Shoes," and "Indescribably Blue." Thank you guys, WE LOVE YOU & GOD BLESS ELVIS PRESLEY!

Ha ha! Yeah and that ring was not fake either!!! This was from his aloha in Hawaii concert. Some say it was not only his best concert but the concert ever!!! Over 1 billion people ( yes billion with a B) watched this live on their tv via satellite! First time that had ever been done! You can watch the whole thing on TH-cam, I recommend it. At the end he throws his diamond studded belt and his diamond studded cape into the audience! You guys are a pleasure to watch. Really enjoying your reactions. Take care

I agree
I would say smooth chocolate ❤
So much Charisma and talent. He gave the crowd what they wanted. Over and over again.
One of my favorite Elvis performances! How the heck could anyone give this a down-vote??

It is crazy I hear that in America they’ve removed a lot of his number ones how crazy is that

Hey Susan thank you for your suggestion. We will put it on our list💜😀
Yes from same concert! His voice was so 💯
One of his 'Best' ever!!
Yes - What Now My Love is such a sad song but the sheer power of his voice at the end of that song is just chilling.
Yes, what now my love, same show!
Mickey Newbury (1940-2002) put those three songs (anthems really) together and he charted pretty well in 1972. But Elvis pulls out all the stops and makes it the definitive classic for himself.

Such a great track !!that gets overlooked!!
