Seeing these recommendations was so refreshing because ive been seeing the same books get recommended over and over again It reminded of how many fun unread books are awaiting me
so true it feels like booktok make it harder to find good (and underrated books) rather than promoting them :( I still love watching it ofc but it's just hard finding good reads cause there's no bookstores nearby where I live
Awww thank you so much for this lovey comment🥹 I truly appreciate it!! I always want to discover books other than the ones that blow up on social media (which is wonderful for those authors!), but it’s such a special feeling to discover or stumble upon a book you’ve never heard of before🥰 I’m so happy to hear that you found the recommendations refreshing🥹🫶🏼
The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa was a book that reminded me very much of Whisper of The Heart because not only does it have the themes of a mystical bookshop but it also slips from reality to the dreamlike state which the heroine in Whisper Of The Heart experienced while writing her novel. :) oh, and also, the snarky attitude of the cat reminded me of the one she follows to the shop. And the two main characters have a relationship reminiscent of the one she formed with the violin maker boy (I cannot remember their names, apologies.) Enjoyable video btw and thank you for the recommendations 💝
returning to Ghibli has been a huge influence on my recent writing. I think with so many book chasing that intensity and avoiding coziness if there's adventure involved, I wanted to just make a story that felt like the best parts of my favorite Ghibli movies 💟
I would love to read your story when you finish it!!! I'm also a writer and I want to add in my stories the feeling of being in a safe place and letting the mind reflex what happens around us.❤ good luck in your story✨
Half a Soul and The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea were both 5 stars for me. A dream store where animals and humans line up to purchase their dreams sounds amazing, adding to my TBR. Thank you for the recommendations 😊
The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea is a beautiful book! Another Ghibliesque work I think is Archer's Goon by Diana Wynne Jones [actually most of her work to be honest including howl's moving castle]
I've already read most of these books 😅 In case you, or anyone else, is interesting in Ghibli vibes in Manga i'd highly recommend Natsume's Book of Friends, Flying Witch, Witch Hat Atelier, Call the Name of the Night, and of course the Magnum Opus of Hayao Miyazaki himself Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 😊
@@AhyasCottage you won't regret it! Witch Hat Atelier feels like becomes better and better for each books! i've read it untill book 8 so far, so good!
I'm just so glad to hear someone say that Whisper of the Heart is their favourite Ghibli movie...like it's the most underhyped one ever...I love that movie to bits❤
in case anyone wanted a list of the books mentioned :) by ash, oak and thorn glowrushes eva evergreen lonely castle in mirror a far wilder magic half a soul the girl who fell beneath the sea dallergut dream department store days at the the morisaka bookstore the easy life in kamusari
great recommendations! i’ll add a lot of these to my list, whisper of the heart is also a favourite of mine. i would recommend “Tress of the emerald sea” by brandon sanderson, it reminded me a lot of nausicäa and porco rosso, “under a dancing star” (which i dont know if you ended up reading it) feels very much like a ghibli movie, i cant place my finger on which… but the summer vibe and how the main character follows her dreams and becomes more herself around passionate people is core ghibli standards, a similar book (also by laura wood) is a snowfall of silver which also follows the whole idea of following your dreams and people who inspire you to follow them (and with a sweet romance)
I've bought a few of the books: Kiki's Delivery, Marnie, Howls and My Neighbor they are great to have especially of you are a fan of the movies. I also would recommend The Borrowers series that Arrietty is based on. Added many of your recommendations to my library holds list. I didn't know the Lonely Castle in the Mirror had a movie as well, so I requested both. Thanks for sharing all these great books, I can't wait to read and watch.
I read the girl who fell beneath the sea, BEATUTIFUL cover (i have the version with just the girl , not the one in the video but that one has beautiful artwork too!) and def gave me spirited away vibes but the writing wasn't all that great, it was an interesting concept and the actual story was great but it wasn't one of those books that you get sucked into. It was kind of a struggle to read and I would find myself getting bored quickly but I can see how it would be someone else's cup of tea, this is just a little fyi for the people who are looking for a book that they will be entranced by However I really recommend Eva Evergreen, semi magical witch. It was a really fun read and I enjoyed the plot. Plus it's a good book for all ages!
Oooh I completely see where you’re coming from!! I think I enjoyed the atmospheric and mythological elements to the story, but I fully understand that it might not be for others🙈
Great recs! I've been keen to read the Dallergut Dream Department Store. I also rec A Psalm for the Wild-Built, which despite it not having obvious similarities to Ghibli movies (the closest I could compare it to would be Castle in the Sky as the story is set in a world where robots, after gaining sentience, left for the vast wilderness far from human civilisation), gives off similar vibes. It also has influences of Solarpunk which I feel like Miyazaki would enjoy as he's also been outspoken about environmental themes (Naussica, Princess Mononoke). The book definitely gives a more comforting and meandering feeling than any heavy fantasy or plot action that focuses on how beautiful and magical the mundane can be (Totoro, Whisper of the Heart). I've seen some people recommend Witch Hat Atelier which I completely agree with, it's one of the best ongoing mangas at the moment, the art is so intricate and immersive. If you enjoyed that, I suggest checking out the webtoon Hooky, which is about two magical twins born into a sheltered witch family that go off exploring the outside world.
Oooh, I can't wait to look into these! 😍 My top recommendation for this type of book would be The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making! It's a "children's" book, but like Alice in Wonderland is: delightfully wordy, but not too dense -- just a lot of fun big words. It's so whimsical, odd, funny, and charming! I picked it up on a whim in a thrift store, and I wish more people knew about it!
Oh my gosh this video is perfect for me ❤️ thank you for all of the recommendations, I loved The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea!! It did remind me of Spirited Away and I loved the descriptive writing. I think it deserves more love! I also have a lot of these in my tbr so this makes me extra excited for them! 😊 I also love how you show us the first page of each book. I added all of these to my tbr they all sound so good!
"The lonely castle in the mirror" it now has an adaptation on netflix called "the invisible castle" it's very good and the style is similar to the ghibli one!
I recently purchased Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, which sounded really beautiful talking about books and their healing effects on people. I can't wait to read ❤. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation video 🩷.
I absolutely LOVE studio ghibli so much😭 I’ve also been looking for good books for soooo long (that aren’t the same ones recommended over and over again) and books that give Studio Ghibli movie vibe?? SIGN ME UP I’m running to the Kiki’s delivery book so fast lol
Whisper of the heart is my favourite too because it's all about books and antique shop and the landscapes are so beautiful clock with dwarfs are cutest and description of love for violins is wonderful gemstones and lapis lazuli that movie has a little touch of western style that's why I fall in love with that again and again it's a wonderful slice of amazing life simple and sweet
Hi, I just discovered your channel and instantly fell in love with it! Whisper of the Heart is also one of my favorite - possibly most rewatched - Ghibli films!! The characters, background, music - everything about the film....just...makes me feel so nostalgic 🥲 even though I definitely didn't grow up in the 90's Tokyo. It feels weird to miss something you never really experienced yourself -- though there were some things I found familiar like the library card! As a bookworm myself as a little kid, I'd spend so much time in the school library and there were these cards or sometimes just a small sheet of paper glued to the inside of the front cover listing everyone who had borrowed the book. Things like that really resonated with me throughout the movie. My apologies for the rant! I was so excited to finally meet someone who is also a Whisper of the Heart fan 🥰 Anyways, now that I'm subscribed I'll be going through your past vidoes slowly. Thanks for sharing :)
Ohh I’ve never heard of it before!! Thank you so much for the recommendation - I’ll definitely look into it😍 And thank you also for watching the video🥺🤎
Thank you so so much!! I've desperately been trying to find some fantasy books that spike my interest and a lot of these do so! I feel like so many books are forgotten due to the constant hype around the same 5 so this is super helpful!
This is such a lovely list! And I have a few recs to add 💕 Dianna Wynn Jones wrote a few novels in Howl and Sophie's Story, and they are all really cozy and fun! And she also wrote another middle grade series called The Chronicles of Chrestomanci. Its one of those series for children, but also for adults. Its just as spellbinding as Howl's Moving Castle! And then of course there is also The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin. And while this one is also middle grade, its one of my favorite series ever. Reading it is utterly transportive 🐉 Its one of those series that changes you, no matter what age you read it at. I was in my late twenties when I finally picked it up! And finally, the Wrinkle in Time series, by Madeleine L'Engle. There are five books in that series, and each one is also transportive, transformative, magical, cozy, and written for both children and adult readers 💛
I know I would love rest of these recommendations when Howl's Moving Castle is my favourite Ghibli Movie and Half a Soul is one of my all time favourite books solely because it reminded me of the movie
that’s lovely! i would also like to see some book reccomendations inspired by ponyo; it’s such a beautiful movie and personally my favorite from ghibli but unfortunately very underestimated.. :(
Whisper Of The Heart is also my favorite Ghibli movie and Days At The Morisaki Bookshop is practically my all time favorite book. What You Are Looking For Is In The Library is also up there for me.
So many great books, several I havent read yet! I highly recommend Flowerheart, which definitely has a lot of Stdio Ghibli vibes, with Howls Moving Castle. Adorable book! Also The Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart that has a Srudio Ghibli book based on it, but called something else. Lovely fun book!
I’ve read three of these book recommendations this summer and LOVED each and every one of them! I’m continually checking back to this video to find new ones to read. Thank you! 🤗
Ohhh you have no idea how happy that makes me!!🥹 Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I hope you have the best time reading amazing books throughout the rest of your summer🥰🫶🏼
Loved this so much, especially Eva Evergreen and Lonely Castle in the Mirror! Other ghibli-sequel reads I’d recommend are The Miracles of Namiya General Store (kind of reminds me of Up on Poppy Hill and Only Yesterday), plus What You Are Looking for is in the Library, very Whisper of the heart!
I was actually thinking of making something like this but reconsidered. I was thinking including Tea dragon society and seance tea party as they are cosy. Also, my recent release of Cookie and the sprite garden was specifically targeting to feel ghibliesque. But I really enjoyed this list.
Just ordered Lonely Castle based on your rec (I'd been eyeing it for awhile)! Am currently reading Dallergut's, and it is SO whimsical, cozy, magical....all the things haha!
this was a lovely video and such good recommendations and descriptions! I will be checking some of these out. Also, I love how you decorated your room!
Summer reading list acquired! Going to be done completely with school/College soon (2weeks), I’m burnt out and could do with different and cozy reading.
I'm interested in A Far Wilder Magic and Eva Evergreen now! I recently read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Fairies and it reminded me a lot of Howl's Moving Castle
I’m a little late to commenting but loved this idea! I’m a huge Studio Ghibli fan too. One I would recommend if you haven’t read it yet is The Cat Who Saved Books - that gave me Ghibli vibes when I read it earlier this year.
Thank you for this video! You have such a lovely personality!💚 I really enjoyed just the actual book of 'Kiki's Delivery Service' , as well as Totoro. I am so excited to read "Howls Moving Castle' and Mary Stewart's "The Little Witch'. There is nothing like Studio Ghibli!
These are wonderful recommendations! I added several of them to my TBR list. Thank you! Enjoy the rest of your weekend🌸 Also, I didn’t notice any background noise😊
This is the first video I’ve ever seen of yours, and I just have to say, you have the most calming voice and aesthetic, and I am definitely instantly subscribing! I absolutely adore Ghibli films as well, and I’m interested in checking out most of these books. Thank you for the suggestions. 💚
"From Up on Poppy Hill" is a great Ghibli movie, although directed by his son Goro. The bicycle sequence with the song "sukiyaki" is sure to inspire you
I adore Studio Ghibli films and cozy fantasy books, so this is the perfect video for me. I highly recommend the animated film adaptation of The Lonely Castle in the Mirror! I haven't read the book yet, but I watched the film in theatres and it's so well done. I love the fairy tale elements and the mental health messages are hard-hitting. If you enjoy manga, I highly recommend The Water Dragon's Bride, Snow White with the Red Hair, and Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits. Some ofvmy favorite series with whimsical, magical Ghibli vibes. ❤
Another good book recommendation for Whisper of the Heart would be the Emily books by L.M. Montgomery. Emily of New Moon is the first book but it's a trilogy. The connection is that Emily is also an aspiring writer.
ahhhh the video i've been looking for my whole life 😍 (okay no that's not true only ever since i discovered the studio ghibli movies last year 🙈) i added almost all of those books and i'll go scroll through the comments for more recs 👀 whisper of the heart is my favorite as well and i just received the borrowers so i'm ready to start our buddy read whenever you're ready too 🥰🤍
Lonely Castle in the Mirror is also an animated movie! I remember seeing a trailer for a while ago (last year?) in a theatre in Japan. I wonder how different the book and movie adaptations are!
If you loved 'Days at the Morisaki Bookshop', you should also give 'Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop' by Hwang Bo-Reum a try! 💕 It's similar in terms of the main character experiencing burnout, but the latter also portrays the various challenges individuals face in their lives. An instant favorite and a book that I connected with very deeply 🫶 The DallerGut Dream Department Store is in my tbr!! Maybe this is a sign to finally give it a go 😍
Yess!! Welcome to the Hyunamdong-Dong Bookshop is one of my favourite books I’ve read this year😍 It was so wonderfully cosy hehe and I was so touched in lots of the scenes🥹🤎 thank you so much for watching the video!!🫶🏼

Awww you’re already one step ahead of me!!!🙈🌷 thank you so much for enjoying the video and I’ll try to feature milk more frequently in vlogs - he’s usually very camera shy🤣🤎
love these recs and love this video! i can't put my finger on exactly why, but the vibe is so exquisite and nice. can't wait to read some of these, and i'll definitely be subscribing!
I just stumbled across your channel and just watched this video. This video was so warm and comforting and l love the way you speak about Studio Ghibli and share your enthusiasm in a gentle way. I had to subscribe :)
I love this video.🌹Your voice is so calming, and I LOVED the recommendations. I personally love the whimsical, cottagecore world of Studio Ghibli and I can't wait to read some of these books. I am looking forward to getting hold of By Ash, Oak and Thorn, Eva Evergreen, Half a Soul, Dallergut Dream Department Store, and Days at the Morisaki Bookshop! ✨
Ohhh thank you so much for leaving such a sweet comment🥹 I’m so happy to hear that you liked the recommendations and I really hope you enjoy getting to know the books🥰
i loved the dallergut dream dept store! i wonder if you've read floating hotel by grace curtis? I read both books close to one another and i really feel like they have quite a similar atmosphere (one's a little less relaxed as the other but they're still both very slice of life and sweet. you might like it!)
By Ash, Oak and Thorn is free for audible listeners so I just added that to my to-listen to list. I had the second book on my to-read list but didn't know of the first one! I read Howl's Moving Castle and mean to read the sequels eventually. It was very much like the movie! I have seen every Ghibli movie. Whisper of the Heart is sweet. I think I like Arietty and Marnie films a lot more lately though I have always love Totoro. I added "A Far Wilder Magic" to my to-read list too. The Life of Kamusari sounds wonderful. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. Arietty was based off of The Borrowers. Perhaps you have read that book written in the 1950s.
It's not Ghibli, but Lonely Castle in the Mirror has actually has an anime adaption! It was quite beautifully done. Thank you for the recommendations, added quite a few to my tbr as I also love Ghibli movies.
Thank for the recs they're great so far! I'm about halfway through and did you know that Lonely Castle In the Mirror already has a anime film adaptation ? It was released in 2022 - I haven't seen it but I remember seeing the trailers and thought you should know since you said you wanted a film version to exist (it does!) 😊

Thank you for the cozy recs, this is perfect for fall!
this was a lovely video and such good recommendations and descriptions! I will be checking some of these out. Also, I love how you decorated your room!
Awww thank you!! That makes me so happy to hear🥺🤎
Great list of recommendations! Thank you! I've added new ones to my ever growing TBR list lol
🙈🙈thank you so much!!! We can have ridiculously long tbr lists together🤣
@@AhyasCottage lol good plan!
There is an anime movie about book 4, The Castle one! It was very good I highly recommend it If you haven't heard of it.
I have just found that I really enjoy Oriental writers. Thank you for your channel.
My Ghibli feel book recommendations are...
The House in the Cerulean Sea,
Under the Whispering Door,
Somewhere Beyond the Sea,
all by TJ Klune.
Nettle and Bone is a great book that gives kind of slightly creepy but funny ghibli vibes
Summer reading list acquired! Going to be done completely with school/College soon (2weeks), I’m burnt out and could do with different and cozy reading.
that sounds like a wonderful plan! wish you all the best 🌟
I'm interested in A Far Wilder Magic and Eva Evergreen now! I recently read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Fairies and it reminded me a lot of Howl's Moving Castle
Your plant looks like that one episode where spongebob goes to sandy’s house and pretends like he isnt dying the entire time
😫😫😫
I’m a little late to commenting but loved this idea! I’m a huge Studio Ghibli fan too. One I would recommend if you haven’t read it yet is The Cat Who Saved Books - that gave me Ghibli vibes when I read it earlier this year.
Thank you so much for the recs! You’re so pretty and have such a soothing voice! ❤
Ohh that is so kind of you!!😭 thank you so much🫶🏼🌷
Thank you so much for the lovely recommendations. I haven’t heard of any of these books before and I’m so excited to look them up and read them!
Thank you for this video! You have such a lovely personality!💚 I really enjoyed just the actual book of 'Kiki's Delivery Service' , as well as Totoro. I am so excited to read "Howls Moving Castle' and Mary Stewart's "The Little Witch'. There is nothing like Studio Ghibli!
i just found your channel through this video and i just love the vibes of your channel and might pick up some of these books lol 🫶🏼
I love the vibes of your videos 💜 they’re very relaxing to watch and make me want to create a more peaceful life for myself 💜
I love your channel SO MUCH, Ahya!! ❤ Please never stop creating videos!
These are wonderful recommendations! I added several of them to my TBR list. Thank you! Enjoy the rest of your weekend🌸
Also, I didn’t notice any background noise😊
This is the first video I’ve ever seen of yours, and I just have to say, you have the most calming voice and aesthetic, and I am definitely instantly subscribing!
I absolutely adore Ghibli films as well, and I’m interested in checking out most of these books. Thank you for the suggestions. 💚
Ohh thank you so much for the kind comment!!😭 It means so much to me🥺🤎
"From Up on Poppy Hill" is a great Ghibli movie, although directed by his son Goro. The bicycle sequence with the song "sukiyaki" is sure to inspire you
I saw Lonely Castle in the Mirror. Last year it was released in the US as an anime movie.
I loved your recommendations, Ahya!!
Ooooh what a great recommendation!!!!😍
Lonely Castle in the Mirror does have an anime film adaptation from A-1 Pictures!
Yes!! A couple of people have pointed that out and I can’t believe that I didn’t know about it before😍 I can’t wait to check it out hehe🫶🏼
ahhhh the video i've been looking for my whole life 😍 (okay no that's not true only ever since i discovered the studio ghibli movies last year 🙈) i added almost all of those books and i'll go scroll through the comments for more recs 👀
whisper of the heart is my favorite as well and i just received the borrowers so i'm ready to start our buddy read whenever you're ready too 🥰🤍
I didn’t know any of these books and oh do they sound like something id enjoy… so whimsical, thank you!!!
Yayy I’m so glad to hear that!!🥰 thank you so much for watching the video🌸
These recommendations are great. They seem to really match the movies you paired them with.
Awww thank you so much🥺 I’m so glad you think so!!🥰
Lonely Castle in the Mirror is also an animated movie!
I've never heard of any of these!
Thank you for sharing
This video was so good, loved the recommendations!! im excited to read some of these :) Also i love your vibes, its so relaxing (your voice its asmr for me 😴)

hope you and milk have a lovely day and can't wait for your next video💐🩷☺️
Awww you’re already one step ahead of me!!!🙈🌷 thank you so much for enjoying the video and I’ll try to feature milk more frequently in vlogs - he’s usually very camera shy🤣🤎
This is just what I was looking for, my TBR is going to be packed!
Ohhh thank you for enjoying the video!! My tbr is always overflowing too hahaha🙈✨
Thank you so much for all these recommendations, Ahya! I've added a lot of them to my tbr🥰
My favourite studio Ghibli film is also 'Whispers of the heart 🤍' and I love all the studio Ghibli films🌼
Oh my gosh, no way!!! That movie lives rent free in my head hahaha🫶🏼🌷
I love your the aesthetic of your room! Could you please make a roomtour?
love these recs and love this video! i can't put my finger on exactly why, but the vibe is so exquisite and nice. can't wait to read some of these, and i'll definitely be subscribing!
Wow this is great. I’m reading Howl’s Moving Castle right now!
Oh yes!!! It’s such a whimsical read hehe I hope you enjoy it😍 thank you so much for watching the video🥹🤎
I read it about a month ago and absolutely loved it! Hope you love it as much as I do😊
your voice is so soothing
Great recommendations 👍 Look forward to reading them 💖
Thank you so, so much!🥹🌸🌷
Thanks for the video! Have added the books that I haven't read to my TBR!!
Yayyy that’s so exciting!! I hope you enjoy them🥰🫶🏼
i loved the dallergut dream dept store! i wonder if you've read floating hotel by grace curtis? I read both books close to one another and i really feel like they have quite a similar atmosphere (one's a little less relaxed as the other but they're still both very slice of life and sweet. you might like it!)
Love all the recs.. I am so excited and intrigued by the dallergut dream department store. Should be reading it soon
Oh my goodness ❤ my favorite Ghibili film is Whisper of the Heart too. Hardly anyone I talk to knows what that is 😂
YAYY that makes me so happy😫✨🌸
Thanks for the suggestions! I love Eva Evergreen's Duology so much. I have not heard of By Ash, Oak and Thorn it sounds like a cute read to check out.
Tysm! I’ve been struggling for looking for good books to read! 😊
Thank you for sharing! Excited to get some of these books ❤
That’s so exciting to hear!! Thank you for enjoying the video🥰
“The Witch of the West is Dead” imo has strong Studio Ghibli vibes 🌱
I totally agree! Loved the book and wtiting style so much 💗
I would also suggest "Where the dark stands still" by A.B Poranek, its a very whimsical polish tale
Oh yesss!! I immediately put it on my tbr list when I came across it earlier this year and I can’t wait to read it😍
It's not Ghibli, but Lonely Castle in the Mirror has actually has an anime adaption! It was quite beautifully done.
Thank you for the recommendations, added quite a few to my tbr as I also love Ghibli movies.
Thank for the recs they're great so far! I'm about halfway through and did you know that Lonely Castle In the Mirror already has a anime film adaptation ? It was released in 2022 - I haven't seen it but I remember seeing the trailers and thought you should know since you said you wanted a film version to exist (it does!) 😊
I HAVE THE SAME FERN POSTER!!! (Thank you for the recommendations btw :)
Ahhhh no way!!!😍 thank you so much for watching and enjoying the video🥹🫶🏼
Thank you for the reading list! I love your descriptions
I’m so glad to hear that!! Thank you so much for watching🥰
