Well said. I was so enthralled that I forgot this was a talk show with commercials. A brilliant conversation more than an interview (kudos to Colbert). If I could choose a person to sit next to on a long flight it would be Bono. He’s been my hero since I was 13 years old and my admiration has only grown with time. To be a fly on the wall…

The essence of Irish people everywhere. Our hope is always inextinguishable 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Was working as a park ranger in Central Park in NYC, leading a tour, saw him and a friend walking on the path towards us, but it took me 3 seconds to realize who he was--their presence first caught my attention, made eye contact, but didn't stop the tour or say anything to him, as he passed by us, he reached out smiling and tapped the top of my arm, which was a silent acknowledgment that he didn't have to offer. He is a classy man, who is as he says "in it". Loves people.

U2 was the soundtrack of my teens and young adulthood in the 80’s…my favorite albums, favorite concerts, favorite performer and favorite activist. Hearing Bono talk about America made me feel both ashamed and hopeful at the same time. Ashamed because we should be better than what we have become as a country and hopeful because of Bono’s words…we aren’t finished yet. For decades I’ve admired how he will talk to whomever he needs to, conservative/liberal, when working on a social cause. We need more people in this world who lead with love and put people’s needs above politics. Wonderful interview, Stephen!

We were up along the side of the stage up on the concrete stairs making out the whole show. LOL next thing I know there was a bright spotlight on us. As we opened our eyes and looked up, Bono was standing right over us. He put his free hand on my head as he's singing "two hearts beat as one! Big smiles traded as he ruffled my hair around and smiled at Helen and went running off back down to the stage. Spotlights on us the whole time. What a memory. Then, listen to Joshua Tree--the entire album, though fast forward through most of the first track---it's a long, long intro that's very quiet and hard to hear. I can guarantee there will be at least one track on Joshua Tree that speaks to you. There is great variety.

A quote from a speech, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, by the equaly great Bruce Springsteen, about Bono. Like Springsteen, Bono and U2 are the soundtrack of my childhood right up to adulthood. Bono was the voice of pain, love, loneliness, joy, etc.

I graduated high school in 1987. There is very few songs or bands or artists from that era that have aged well, Punk excluded. But I found a copy of my Joshua Tree CD 3 years ago, that I had forgotten about. I listened with fresh ears and that album is historically significant. You can feel the desert in it. Red Hill Town gets me every time. The idea that the blood runs cold between father and son, describes my family to a T. It gives me the chills and my eyes tear up. Every time. I have always loved Bullet the Blue Sky. I was sick of Streets Have No Name, during that time, but it's redeemed itself, years later, though the lesser known tracks are the ones I love the most. I know I have Celtic genes, because the natural world speaks to me too, and their descriptions of sunsets, red hills, the blue sky, and so on, feel like home to me. And New Years Day and Sunday, Bloody Sunday were anthems of my youth. Bravo, Bono, and thank you Colbert.

I've said this before: U2 reached through my television at Live Aid, picked me up and took me to another place, moved me in a way no music ever does, really, no matter how great. U2 continued to do so through the years. I had spent the nine months prior to Live Aid getting into them and had everything by them on vinyl, including some live bootlegs, by July of '85 when I was 15. The entire year of 1987 with the Joshua Tree album and tour, I was completely transfixed watching them own that time and kinda bummed, really, that I was not right there with them living that life - a full and rich life, and I don't mean rich monetarily. And still yearning for more. Always.

It’s endearing that the first couple minutes of the interview showed Bono’s nervousness. We’re all a bit nervous immersed in new situations-that is what makes us human. As the full interview progressed it only got better. When you can speak from the heart without condemnation of anyone or anything, that’s when you know you have the audience’s full attention. Those are the moments of the interview that really stood out and that I will remember. Thanks for sharing the unedited version-that’s where the “music” is most pure.

Listened to the 3 x 4 min extracts first, were interesting but very disjointed, then listened to the full 36 mins and got to appreciate the quality and engagement of Stephen and the insights and perspectives of Bono. Super interview, loved his comments and sense of America, definitely not finished, more like a teenager, currently going through a tempestuous time, divided household, hating their parents and parents trying to somehow keep things under control. No doubt there is a great leader in the offing, just none of the current characters. Thanks for sharing. 👍🙏😁❤️

Im not surprised that these 2 men got along so well - they have a lot in common: emotional intelligence from bereavement and living with ongoing physical issues (Stephen his hearing and Bono his Glaucoma and back issues). They both know how lucky they were to meet their life partner and co-parents so early in life and dread any thought of illness or suffering or loss for their respective beloved. They both wield influence responsibly with self awareness and intellect tempered with a healthy amount of self mockery. They are both Irish - Bono by birth and home, Stephen by genepool and culture. Both love Anerica and are fluent in it. Above all, they love justice and are Kind - all of those qualities are ones I appreciate in both - and U2s music is indelibly wrapped around my Irish heart like the claddagh ring Bono wears. Thank you Stephen for the great job you do; and Bono - Im so proud of you and how you and U2 live your lives. Nollaig Shona diabse go leir.
