What I love about this is that it gives me hope. I have been watching your videos very consistently over the last few years because while many TH-camrs strive to be entertainers you are foremost an educator and education is what I want. And yet some of your works these days are so amazing and impressive I feel almost discouraged. I think to myself: I will never be able to do this. But seeing your earliest works in this video, some of which my mediocre skill level can mirror in quality, I can now see in perfect clarity the tremendous growth you have made. It really is a long journey. This army is a living testament to your growth as an artist and demonstrates that great results can be achieved if one puts in the necessary work and is persistent. These sorts of videos are so valuable. Even if your viewership dwindles to five people, please never stop making videos.
It’s so interesting to see the evolution of your painting style and how much it has developed over the years, but kept many of the color themes. Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely love ur armies on parade videos. Even if your painting style and ur conversion choices are not always my cup of tea, I love hearing about your hobby journey and admiring ur insane talent.
This was a wonderful video. Thank you for bringing us along. Seeing the older sculpts, the updates along the range, and all the additions from converted to community made prints, with your commentary really elevated this video from a “look at my neat rat dudes” into a real “labor of love”.
Inspiring video. Seeing the vast historical path you've taken with Skaven and the freedom to not get wrapped up into one recipe has me contemplating my approach
Iv waited until i had some time and no distractions to watch the whole video through. I made several attempts but kids ect made it difficult. Iv been waiting for this series especially the skaven as iv got 2 unpainted skaventide sat waiting for inspiration and enough of your how to videos to make a start. Excellent thanks
My Watermark was pretty recently, and that was the new Deathmaster. I am super happy with it and since I painted it I feel I have unlocked something. My stuff after that has just gotten better. Thanks for sharing your rats with us.
I could have watched another 25 minutes hearing you talk about your hobby journey, Vince, this was awesome. I would love to see one of those beginning to end army videos that you've done before (One of those 1 hour and 1/2 videos, great to have on while I paint). Great video, as always. :)
Hello Vince , your Journey through your army has given me the Last kick in the butt i needed to make my 40K Skaven Army ( yes the thing GE never made yet ) . I used the body of the league of Vothann and put some Skaven arms and heads ( ok it's very basic , but People around me seem's to love what i did with them ), i use the league of Votann weapons and for my rats that are the cultist équivalent i used autoguns from cultist and sisters of battles autoguns lol also used the league of votann bikes and that was inspired from a 90's cartoons called Biker Mices from Mars. Lol Thanks for being such an inspiration for us Skavens lovers Th
This was probably the most inspiring video you have done. I have painted a large skaven army (almost 600 painted models) over a similar period (since 1997) and somehow seeing your army makes me appreciate my skaven army even more. I really liked your eshin gutter runners and i spot the WHFB 6th edition skaven warlord there. The best part is spotting the old models i can recognize from older editions of warhammer. Thank you so much for sharing.
I was born in the year of the Metal Rat, so I'm legally obligated to play Skaven. I used to have a bunch of OG metal Skaven. I almost never sell off my models, and seldom even trade them, but I haven't been able to find them for years. The oldest models I have are actually Skaven from 2nd edition Blood Bowl. Still playing Skaven for the latest edition of Blood Bowl. I even took the plastic Grey Seer holding the globe, cut the globe off, stuck on a plastic warpstone football and made it my BB team Coach.
Great video I really appreciate the tour through the ages. Nothing makes you feel better about your growth quite loek seeing how far you've came. You shouldn't repaint those purely to remind yourself how far you have come but thats just my sentimental opinion. Plus you can take a second go and then place em side by side and really see the difference
I’m not in any conceivable way an absolute champion, I just adore rats, so Skaven were honestly made for me. If I was ever going to get in on actual mini gaming, I’d be in Skaven, no matter their tier. The way Vince decides on whether to keep old paint jobs and alterations sounds a bit how I decide which really old drawings and paintings to keep. If I remember having good feelings attached to it in some way, like if I was really happy with parts of it or felt like I had a learning jump, epiphany or even sense a whole paradigm shift at the time, I keep it forever, basically. If not, I change it or pay it forward to someone else to learn from/rescue. I have learned about my own mind that holding on to emotional grub in a hobby is just not of use for me. Took me long enough, though! (46y)
What a great way to reflect and take inventory of your models to decide what direction you want to take the next chapter of your Skaven army. Really great video! Thanks Vince. Cheers from Toronto
Oh this should be a very interesting series, especially with a new edition here. Who knows whatll get refreshed in this edition, so looking forward to these armies on parade videos throughout 4th ed. I do think its pretty healthy to refresh an army if new models are released. It gives an opportunity to improve an old paint scheme, using new techniques and maybe even a slightly altered color palette. Also new better looking models can improve the overall look of an army naturally. I guess the real questions are, what is useable on the table, what can just sit in a collection on the shelf, and what can just be gotten rid of for good
I read Skavenslayer as a poor college student purely on a whim and promptly fell in love with WHFB and the skaven without being able to afford them. Always wanted a proper skaven army but my friends all played 40k and by the time I could afford one, WHFB died. I just ordered two Skaventide boxes with the intention of converting everything I need from the 40 extra clanrats I've got to play with. It's really neat seeing your skaven all lined, I would have had an absolute blast playing an army like that back in WHFB!
Great video Vince, nice to see a journey people go on with armies. I’m certainly going Skyre & Moulder with my army. Will get 60 clan rats & the new Rat ogres. Can’t wait to see what get released this edition for them.
I totaly agree with you about not getting couth up by an army color sheme. My nurgle army has so many different collord clothes and armor in defferent greens. It just looks like a warband thet belongs together because of wounds, skin and bases. Sorry for the bad english by the way. Not a native speaker.
Took me a moment to figure out why you hated your regular verminlord, but then I just started staring at the hand holding the kitbashed plague censer and yeah, I can see that being like a source of unending annoyance to anyone who converts and paints stuff at your level. It would look awesome if it just had a handle of some sorts.
I absolutely love seeing those models / armies, these videos are great! Really hope you go through some of your other armies at some point too, must be a lot of work getting them out for taking pics! 😅 🙏❤️
If there's one thing I've learnt from Vince, it's that wearing an apron makes you a better painter. I can 100% attest to this. My painting has improved, and I've started wearing an apron. I'm absolutely certain that hours and hour of being hunched over models with magnifying lenses and amazing lighting has nothing to do with my improvement. It's pure apron power.
Great collection. Nice to see how your painting skills improved throughout the years painting the army. The eshin deceiver from claybeast looks amazing. I just bought a lot of their ghoul line mini's last week. Plan to make a display of a flesh eater courts army.
9:20 the nice thing about greenstuff cloaks is that the thickness looks way better than plastic (or God forbid metal) ones. I must give them a try sometime. I don't think you have ever done a video on greenstuffing cloaks. Could be a fun one if it comes up redoing this army for example.
Nice collection! I totally understand looking at army painted over a long period of time and feeling that you could do it better now :D I also like Skryre the most! I really like their randomness combined with 'casino effect' of doing a ton of damage or exploding :D That skaven doom tanks is amazing! Haven't seen you post it :O Hopefully we'll see more Skryre stuff in upcoming months!
Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that the Hell Pit Abomination wasn't the Great Mouse of Minsk from An American Tail, but maybe that could be a fun video next time. Still, the issues you may have with some paint jobs aren't necessarily the quality, but the variance in tones or saturation in the colors between the models. Such as the Stormfiends, the three in the front paint scheme match and are desaturated, and if were just them in the picture there'd be no issue. However, sharing space with the three in the back clashes with one painted in bold colors, and two with the black armor having hard edges for highlights. Even though the Skaven are scavengers, taking whatever they can get their grimy little claws on, the mismatched chaotic nature of your various paint schemes can only work if they are painted similarly. So, if you want to repaint your old models go for it they're your models. I'm repainting my Warriors of Chaos AND Dwarf armies from WHFB. Even stripped some of them to make repairs/conversions, and get rid of some of the globbed paint from when I was a kid before I learned to properly thin my paints and spread them across the model.
Thanks for sharing your rats vince. Hopefully we'll get another video like this down the road with new rats! Which of the old kits do you think are "safe to buy" for new Skaven collectors?
You should check out the "rat mommy" from Battle Yak Miniatures too, if that tickles your fancy. I really appreciate his style overall, been a Patron for the longest time. His Rat Ogres and Rats With Miniguns are also excellent sculpts.
Time to put all those Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints to good use! I can't wait to watch you repaint the models you're not happy with! Do you think green chrome would work for a warp stone glow?
A bunch of the ones you said you hated looked alright to me (in technical terms) so now im very curious to know why they failed for you. i've got a bunch of models that occupy that same place; paint jobs that are to a good standard just not the standard i set for myself at the time.
Question i have seen some miniatures Painters using pencils on their miniatures. Mainly to draw veins on skin and other such stuff. Do you have any experince with pencils? And are there any rules when using them? Ala varnish the lines before glazing over them or maybe don't try and paint it on top of oils it doesn't work that well or other such rules?
I bought a hellpit abomination without playing skaven just to use in a TTRPG because it nearly got me to start skaven back in the day and the 100 blocks of rats put me of
Hi Vince, I have been watching a lot of your videos recently and picked up the Vallejo Metal Color line based on what you had to say about it. However, I was wondering what metallics you would recommend for drybrushing as the Metal Colors paints seem far too thin to properly drybrush.
They are great for drybrushing, I use them all the time for that purpose. You just want to really work the paint out of your brush and leave little in there, it's beautiful then for a dry brush.
Sir Vince, I'm getting the Skaven side of the Skaventide box, so, for someone who is just starting AoS and is trying to make a 2k random army to play with a small group of friends, do you think it's worth getting another Skaventide-Skaven set to put together an army or it's more valuable to get other things?
id love a picture of your whole skaven collection out on the table at one time!
21:13 “A rat the is just slightly larger than a normal rat, is not a giant rat” 😂❤️👌
Perhaps just a R.O.U.S.
Thanks for taking us down your journey, Vince! Love seeing and hearing the sentimentality you have for your little friends!
What I love about this is that it gives me hope. I have been watching your videos very consistently over the last few years because while many TH-camrs strive to be entertainers you are foremost an educator and education is what I want.

I really appreciate you taking honestly about the models you aren't happy with. Very relatable.
I'm so tempted to start a really ill-advised project with the new Skavens...
I started a fully custom/ converted 2000 pts a month ago...
Turns out that bells and snipers are expensive pts wise, so it's really coming along.
Do it
It’s so interesting to see the evolution of your painting style and how much it has developed over the years, but kept many of the color themes. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Absolutely love ur armies on parade videos. Even if your painting style and ur conversion choices are not always my cup of tea, I love hearing about your hobby journey and admiring ur insane talent.
Vince has been growing and painting this army long before I've been alive. I gotta cut my minis some slack and keep moving forward and learning.
Awesome to see all your Skaven that have been painted through your years in the hobby. Enjoyed this! 😎👍🏻
Thanks 👍
This was a wonderful video. Thank you for bringing us along. Seeing the older sculpts, the updates along the range, and all the additions from converted to community made prints, with your commentary really elevated this video from a “look at my neat rat dudes” into a real “labor of love”.

The clawlord to Vince as Montagne Sainte-Victoire was to Cézanne is such a moment I love it

Loved Skaven since they first appeared out of the murk....this video has made me so happy, cant wait to get to grips with the new Skaventide minis
You're truly an inspiration Vince thank you for everything you do.
It's wild that Vince is going to have 200 clan rats with the new skaventide box!
A whole 400 points of rats!
That sinking feeling when you realise you were in the game before Vince. Lol. Great video Vince. Wish i had kept some of my old stuff ❤
These are wonderful Vince, that's for putting together a comprehensive vid of them with solid pauses to view everything thanks for sharing with us!
Glad you like them!
@@VinceVenturella Being of a certain vintage personally its great to see the old 90s metal skaven mixed in with the new.
Wow that mecha dragon abomination is sick. I might have to steal that idea.

As someone who isn’t interested in skaven this video was captivating

I love the Hellpit Abomination original model but what you did with your own Skryre Abomination is exquisite !
I love the old Vermin lord model so much better than the new one. Skaven was my first army! Awesome army showcase Vince! :) 🐀
Great video I really appreciate the tour through the ages. Nothing makes you feel better about your growth quite loek seeing how far you've came. What a great look back. Thanks for the introspective look through your favorite army Vince!
love this video, really inspiring to see your stuff over the years
Glad you enjoy it!
This was so much fun to watch your passion and honesty come alive! Thanks for sharing this part go you!!
Thanks for sharing. was great to see the progress of the army over so many years.

Batchpainting in numbers of the Horned Rat? Brilliant. No wonder you did good by them
Your Storm Vermin look awesome
It was wonderful to see the journey through your Skaven!

Yes I am an absolute champion! Thank you. Can’t wait to see the Skaventide box.
Great video Vince, loved seeing your Skaven through the years. The passion you have for the army is awesome to see.

I absolutely love the mechanical dragon
Oooooh, at 22:45 that is a sweeeet conversion of Reaper Miniatures' Wyrmgear!
Considering my current level it is quite encouraging to see your early work ;)
Thanks Vince,
I don’t play games, but I got those same feelings for “Giestlings”
Happy rats day 🐁 thanks for sharing! I really hope some of these old models get a refresh soon. I need all the rats, but not the old fuglies.
Great video Vince, nice to see a journey people go on with armies. I’m certainly going Skyre & Moulder with my army. Will get 60 clan rats & the new Rat ogres. Can’t wait to see what get released this edition for them.
What an amazing army Vince both old and new you should be really proud of yourself
An interesting overview. Thanks for sharing. Squeak-squeak! 🤩🐀🌠

perfectly okay and totally agreed.
I did groups of 8 on LOTR minis and had close to 1000 done.
this was such a fun video Vince, it's so neat to experience the painting journey of someone you admire. i will hit like for this.
Took me a moment to figure out why you hated your regular verminlord, but then I just started staring at the hand holding the kitbashed plague censer and yeah, I can see that being like a source of unending annoyance to anyone who converts and paints stuff at your level.

It's crazy how the Lord Skrolk miniature is actually older than me.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!! LET'S GOOOOOO!!!

Man i love the white robes withe the slightly desaturated red accents it looks insane
Impeccable 🙌
Nice stuff!
Great collection. Nice to see how your painting skills improved throughout the years painting the army. The eshin deceiver from claybeast looks amazing. I just bought a lot of their ghoul line mini's last week. Plan to make a display of a flesh eater courts army.
God i love Raging heroes minis. They are always so flashy
Very cool video, thanks Vince!
Im waiting on my friend to ask me to paint this box set, I did the leviathan box last month it took some time but I got the 72 models painted lol
7:30 there are parts on this models that are rough I agree, the skin tone however is something I really like!
RAT MOMMY
9:20 the nice thing about greenstuff cloaks is that the thickness looks way better than plastic (or God forbid metal) ones. I must give them a try sometime. I don't think you have ever done a video on greenstuffing cloaks. Could be a fun one if it comes up redoing this army for example.
Woow, they are soo good !!
Nice collection!
I totally understand looking at army painted over a long period of time and feeling that you could do it better now :D

Loving army on parade love rats, remind me of arx fatalis best game ever.
Is there any tutorial where you went over the colors/techniques used for rat mommy? The skin especially is fantastic!
Yes, I did a video on combining oils with acrylics that covered that model.
Thanks for sharing your rats vince. Hopefully we'll get another video like this down the road with new rats! Which of the old kits do you think are "safe to buy" for new Skaven collectors?
Stormfiends, Thanquol, probably the artillery weapons (WLC and Plagueclaw), but I am not sure on anything else.
You should check out the "rat mommy" from Battle Yak Miniatures too, if that tickles your fancy. I really appreciate his style overall, been a Patron for the longest time. His Rat Ogres and Rats With Miniguns are also excellent sculpts.
RAT LADY LETS GOOOO
that double bell is so absurd lmao
On the abomination: truer words have never been spoken.
This is rad! pun intended
Time to put all those Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints to good use! I can't wait to watch you repaint the models you're not happy with! Do you think green chrome would work for a warp stone glow?
Not really, the metallic sheen doesn't really feel like a glow.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍 🤙
Thank you! Cheers!
A bunch of the ones you said you hated looked alright to me (in technical terms) so now im very curious to know why they failed for you.
i've got a bunch of models that occupy that same place; paint jobs that are to a good standard just not the standard i set for myself at the time.
There are many reasons, sometimes it's the paint, or the look, or the conversion. I am just rarely happy with my work over time on these things. :)
Team skaven! Hope my models look as good as your "failures" one day 😂😂
Pretty early!
Rat Mommy is awsome.
Do u say "cheese that was a long video". I hope so ❤😂
most of the are beautifull
Question i have seen some miniatures Painters using pencils on their miniatures.
Mainly to draw veins on skin and other such stuff.
Do you have any experince with pencils?
And are there any rules when using them?
Ala varnish the lines before glazing over them or maybe don't try and paint it on top of oils it doesn't work that well or other such rules?
Yep, there are acrylic and oil pencils, both can work, in both cases, you kind of want to varnish afterwards yes.
I bought a hellpit abomination without playing skaven just to use in a TTRPG because it nearly got me to start skaven back in the day and the 100 blocks of rats put me of
By any chance, can you recommend any places where we can find 3-D prints of rat units?
Just hit My Mini Factory, there are several of the big creators on tribes that have done whole rat months.
I don't know how you can call that 1st unit finished when the base rims aren't black.
I really like these Skaven, but have you seen, what this guy "ninjon" did? :DDDD
I think its worth waiting, there are other units you will want.
Is the Eshin guy thats like standing on his cape 3D printed? I have the same one, but i printed mine. I dont do wqrhammer so i dont recognize them
The big one? Yes, it's a 3D print.
