Yeh! That was how I felt when I first heard about it, it’s the TP-7 by Teenage Engineering, a portable studio recorder with the tape reel, when I first saw it I absolutely fell in the love with the design! It’s a superbly designed little field recorder (in my opinion!) with studio level recording capabilities and one thing I love is that the ‘tape’ motorised reel adds a lovely tape like warble to recordings in playback, like a real, physical tape emulation, that you can interact with and ‘play’ if you want to, there are definitely other more affordable field recorders that are as capable specs wise, but in terms of beauty of design and playability, nothing beats it (again in my humble opinion!!) and like you say, it’s surprisingly mesmerising to watch on screen too!
