You pointed out my favorite part of the OP-1. The tape makes you perform and print to tape and move on! This is how the first 10 years of my musical life was done on analog tape. Great for creativity and moving you through the process.
The most advanced OP-1 field video I’ve seen so far. Really appreciated it. Especially since more advanced workflow videos are in shortage in general. Peace
Love how you keep pushing the OP-1 Field to new heights! ❤ The drum sampling and randomization of the sequencer are great tricks I will definitely check out. I love your singing too! Thank you for your generosity in sharing such amazing experiences with us! 🙏 Let’s frigging GO! 🏃♂️
Liked. Subscribed. Commented. Worth every second of my time! Love the depth you went into and as an OP-1 Field owner I’d love more of these especially ambient or cinematic style as I’m keen to try and find way to score with the OP-1 myself. Love it!
this is so awesome. love the vibe. can you explain what you meant about making it more lofi at around 23min into the recording? something about bouncing the tracks down using the "album" and re-recording that to tape at increased speed? thanks!!
What I do there is compressing the audio and expanding it again, if that makes sense…in the process it should create some artifacts that may, or may not sound good :)
@@SONWU I thought stretching 200% will reduce the frequency of samples by half. for example if the drum is sampled at 44.1khz. it will be 22khz after the stretch. but I guess it won't matter much when it's already heavily FXed.
Hey Son Wu, I've been watching your videos since I got the OP-1 field a month ago or so today, and they have been very helpful! I was trying to get it to work to send MIDI out to my Polyend Tracker Mini, while doing so I was in the COM Settings looking at the devices list when I accidentally clicked the forget button, now I have no devices listed and I CANNOT figure out how to get things corrected... I have re connected the device multiple times and even tried connecting it to my PC... nothing shows up in the devices list. I updated the firmware and performed a factory reset... I feel like Im either missing something completely or have faulty OP-1 field. I would really appreciate any advice you could give as I'm completely lost...
Hey, Strange…when I click forget on all devices and reconnect the OP-Z for example, it shows up again. Have you tried connecting something via bluetooth?
@@SONWU Hey man thanks for replying, I figured it out later that evening after pulling my hair out for a few hours... long story short at some point I grabbed the wrong TRS midi adapter (type A, Roland/Korg type) and the polyend uses the type B type so.. (Im guessing here) the OP-1 was just not seeing a midi connection, thus not re populating the list.. I think that's what happened.. Either way once I switched out the adapter, it instantly saw the tracker and and re populated the list and the midi connection started functioning normally as I hoped. Was basically just me completely not understanding what was going on for a couple hours LOL. Thanks again for the reply though I appreciate it!!!
I mean at 1:34 how lowering the speed of the tape doesn't affect the final sound? I guess I need to wait until my op1 arrives to try it out, then I might understand a bit better.
@@hispronounsaretheythem The price is but the ‘artistic limits’ put on this device really limits it for pro use. Just bigger storage and a SD card slot would be a game changer. Add functionality of app storage with second screen support for Laptop or iPad Pro. Would make this the ultimate travel setup.

Yup, this makes the OP-1 field special!

Thank you, that’s nice to hear! I’ll keep that in mind for future :)
Love the unique creativity to get all the sounds into the keys
Thanks ;)
Super video 💚 That mother reverb is a drone/ambient makers dream on the OP-1f!
Thank you :)
@@Neiltrama1 yeah sorry. Reverb

Thank you for your kind words Sean!
Nice to know that this type of more in-depth video is appreciated. Let's see, where we take it from here :)

Thank you very much! I shied away from making such a long (potentially boring) video for a while, but I am glad I made it after all!
Creatively speaking, this is another level of awesome.
Thanks for all the ideas
My pleasure!
Great video! Thanks a lot for sharing your workflow on the OP-1. Love the idea how you sampled the Kalimba. Sounds amazing!!
freakin amazing!!! thanks so much for showing the steps so clearly.
Thanks, glad you like it!
Fantastic video, got lots of inspiration from it, thanks!

Amazing composition. Wouldn't mind a Son Wu goes Ambient album ;)
…yeah, I know :D I need to release something!
@@SONWU :D Sorry, didn't want to come across as nagging. Everything in due time!
No worries, I didn't take it that way ;)@@Paragraph8
That voice sample sounds exactly how I'd feel if I bought Op1f. 😂
Great! Thank you!
🙏
This device looks like the Casio VL-1 that amused me as a teen in the early '80s. It certainly doesn't sound like one though. Amazing.
True, I guess TE was a little inspired by it ;)
Great workflow!
Thanks!
Brilliant thanks.👍
🙏 thank YOU!
was the video production sinspired by david hilowitz music? i like the stop motionesque style
Thanks, no the stop motion was inspired by a non-music related youtuber…but I can't remember the name right now :D
I had no idea that the op-1 field had velocity sensitivity. the first model lacked this feature, correct?
Correct, the OG OP-1 doesn't have this.
Amazing 🙏👍
Thank you!
doesn't the tape speed changing trick have an issue with sampling rate?
Hi, what exactly do you mean by issues?

@@Janghwan Yes, the audio quality/samplerate will change and cause a high-end rolloff.
Nice!

I don't understand how to shorten the recorded time to 13 seconds without distorting the sound like chipmunk?
There is no time-stretch on the OP-1, if that's what you are looking for…

I wish someone made a pro version of the OP1.
Isn't "Field" already a pro version?

The OP-1 is to music what a pen and paper were to the Apollo Program
Can I afford one? Hell no.
