Here are my thoughts from an American who has lived here for 57 years. RAMMSTEIN has never shied away from pointing its sharp criticism of Countries/Places/Events in History. Take a look at their most recent critique, Deutchland. In my opinion, this is RAMMSTEIN being critical of the US and its global policies towards democratization & commercialization of a culture. And the criticism is accurate.
Our government, be it Democratic or Republican wants to reflect a nation of strength and a beacon for democracy. With sometimes a disregard for how other cultures think or desire change. We invented the super corporation that wants to dominate global markets and put a McDonald's or a Starbucks on every street corner. We promote images of our strength like landing on the moon, flying jets overhead and waving the flag. All images of what some Americans call being patriotic.
America is a fabulous place with diverse people. We were founded by immigrants which have woven a rich tapestry of mixed cultures. But we, like many other world powers, have an ugly side and RAMMSTEIN is calling attention to that. One American's opinion.

I'm German but i agree. Also critique doesn't equal hating something. Too many people mistake it that way.

@@xxJOKeR75xx Danke. You are 100% correct, in my opinion. And I sincerely appreciate that RAMMSTEIN has opinions and critiques and they voice them. What is the perception of RAMMSTEIN in your country?

@@TheIpadfanatic I guess that depends on who you ask. They have a lot of fans and some critics who like to work through the layers of their lyrics. But mainstream media like the yellow press Bild Zeitung like to misunderstand and scandalize things.
The people getting hanged in the concentration camp in their Deutschland video along with the ‘Germany above all’ part of their lyrics caused a big uproar for example.
And the rolling R Till Lindemann sings with, is often related to Hitler and has them labeled neo Nazis, which is BS of course, but caused them to make the song ‘’Links 2 3 4” where he sings ‘Mein Herz schlägt links’ (my heart beats left) to counter that.
Their albums take the no 1 spot on a regular basis. So a lot of people like them, I’d say.

@@xxJOKeR75xx Danke. Again. I sincerely appreciate the commentary on Germany and their perceptions. I assumed that they had their fans and they had their critics. I find most of the time, the people criticize what they don't understand. Or goes counter to their politics/religion/etc. Sounds like you and I are fairly open minded. I am a RAMMSTEIN fan and I listen to them as just music first before I go seek out a music video. And because Till always has something interesting to say, I have translated lyrics. It was clear to me that Deutschland came from their heart. That there are some wondrous things and atrocities and you can't appreciate one without the other. Take care and thank you very much for the conversation!

Rammstein is definitely taking the piss out of the United States here! This song is about the corrupting influence that American culture has over the entire world.

Of course his song is criticism of Americas "Culture" to bring products and "freedom" to other cultures. Patriotism is America's opium to prevent real self reflection and keeps the country going with this construction of lies and corporatocracy. You can line this song up with Deutschland (Germany) This song is a recap of the 2000 year history of what at one point became Germany. It points out why we Germans are bad Patriots. We want to love our country, but it really is a love-hate relation. Because other than the USA for example, we reflect our past which had some really ugly chapters. Partly forced on us due to our geographical location, but still, we been a driving force in it. WW1 for example wasn't started by Germany, but we ended up as the guilty ones and it was devastating. Which lead to WW2 for which we have full responsibility. If the USA would recap their short past, there won't be many reasons to be patriotic about. Today it is more actual then ever before as we not only watch the USA having a second Vietnam moment, but the whole western world has to face reality. Teaching us the obvious! You can't insert your own values into long grown cultures. If we like them or not, not our business!

The song is about how big an impact things from the usa have. No matter where you are, you can find an American production or idea. Buddhists i Nepal earing burger king, african tribes earing pizza and so on.

To answer your question, it's is unforunately because of the commercialization of America's cultural export that this is the image as it appears abroad. America has an amazing cultural heritage that should be shared but the PR for it doesn't match the ad space driven by US big business.

The song can be compared to the song "Deutschland". Fun fact in the music video "Deutschland" you can see the big wings. Worn by Till Lindemann in "Du hast - Live in Paris".😁

Whether a video is blocked depends on the country where you live. In the USA everything seems to be allowed, in Germany they would delete all your videos and you would have a lawsuit on the neck. Otherwise, it seems to help to interrupt more often (we'll hate you for that). Some let a flame edge dance around the video, some put small gray transparent stripes over the original video (translated by Google)

This song is not criticism of America or of the United States. The USA are a great country with lots of good inventions that all of us gain from, no doubt! This song is a criticism of all the people and nations betraying their own heritages for a burger and a coke. And I agree!

Doesn't sound like betraying the own cultural heritage.

As a Murican I can say it 100% IS a criticism. But not one without truth or merit. We are currently a nation of hubris and ignorance, and we are in dire need of a bit more self reflection and change. I might be called unpatriotic for saying that, but I'd argue it is even more unpatriotic to wave your flag and say your the greatest when you know you can be better.

    • @ettifire655
      @ettifire655 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Seeing as the song was released in 2001 during the irac war it´s definetly criticism, in this case of the way the US interferes in other countries all around the world, not only through american-centric globalism but is also the heavy involvement in politics and war (hint hint oil).
Also I do believe the line "This is not a love song. I don´t sing my mother´s tongue" is rather self-expainatory seeing the imagery it´s linked with.
